Sad, but not a surprise given the situation. He has had unbelievably bad luck with injuries, though.

Typical posh Dale snobs. Only a double-barrelled name would do.

Dean Keates has been sacked. Something that brings me a little bit of joy.

Fucking hell, nice way to treat him after he guided us to safety. If we bring Evans in I will spit fire

I expected him to go in the summer so to sack him with 2 games left is baffling, pretty sure Evans will be appointed the day after the Blackpool game

Incredibly poor timing and a real shitty way to treat a club legend. I’d like to know what the expectations were for the season given we have fuck all money and had to replace the pitch for £500k half way through the season.

Lovell has probably had an argument with Scally and when that happens there is only ever one winner, otherwise cant see why hes been sacked now

Agree with every word of this post, disgraceful timing.

Steve Evans is a revolting human being and I and many, many other Gills fans would be deeply disappointed if a person of his moral standing was appointed.

Hello all. Haven't posted on here in an absolute age but I dug out my account details to echo what has been said above. I can't understand the timing of this at all, we've not been setting the world alight this year but what were we supposed to do with the squad we have? If he was going to go there was no need to get rid of him now, why not wait until the summer break?

That aside, the main reason I wanted to post is to say that I will take absolutely anyone over Steve Evans. I do not want him anywhere near the club, I would take another season struggling like this one with a manager I don't despise than a promotion push with Steve Evans at the helm. The man is a disgrace and has no business running Gillingham Football Club.

Scally and Evans are quite pally, I think?

It'd be a disappointment for Gills if Clarke or Hurst, for example, are overlooked (although they might not be interested).

We approached Mansfield to talk to Evans before Lovell was appointed on a permanent basis. He would be an absolute disaster here with no cash and a clash of personality with the chairman, add to that what the fans think of him, (and that he reported the club for racism to the police (later retracted his accusations)), it would be a car crash.

He normally only pitches up at places where has guarantees he will have some money to spend so he can do his "kid in a sweetshop act" of hoovering up any half promising looking player in the FL. Not sure that will be the case at Gillingham next season?

Feel free to shoot me down Gills fans but from the outside looking in it seems like Lovell had done an alright job, mid table with not a huge budget, made some fairly decent signings in January that helped out as well. Cant speak for other games but he got it tactically spot on against us as well, so has some nous about him.

Even if Scally wanted him gone the timing is just bizarre, can only think that Lovell caught wind of the plans to replace him and gave him some kind of ultimatum or something.

I would have snapped anyone’s hand off for 13th place before the season started especially considering our budget. The vast majority of our fans think it’s an unjust decision and (as I said earlier) an appalling way to treat a loyal servant of the club. Anyway, Tony Cascarino agrees...

Hes been at our games for the month or 2, Scally has history of having the next manager in the stands just before he sacks the current guy

Our ex-manager is available, and would probably do a decent job in Kent.

And "Hillingham" has a certain ring to it!:2thumb:

Unless you have pots of cash he won't do anything and even then it's 50/50.
He can't coach to save his life, he just barks abuse at his players when it starts going wrong and his sidekick Raynor is even worse.
Hope for a bad run to get rid of him, he just ruins teams and players.
The authorities should have banned him for life when they had the chance to but they bottled it.

Yep, shame it ended so sourly, had served the club for a long time in which progress was made. But the time was right and he had to go.

Will miss his winding up of the opposition fans/management, but when he turned on his own the writing was on the wall!

Must have been something seriously wrong at Plymouth for them to make this call. Wasn't Adams in charge of pretty much everything, football-wise?

There's been talk of him falling out with some of the players, so it looks like one last throw of the dice to try to get the players up for the big Scunny game.

I doubt too many will have much sympathy for Adams, be it Plymouth fans, opposing fans, other managers or those in the media. He's never been the type to endear himself to people, which you can get away with when things are going well. Not so much when you're fighting relegation...

Desperate, last-ditch move from Plymouth as well but I don't think Adams can have any complaints, he should have done better this season with the players he had.

Adams is a hard person to like, but I did respect him as a manager. And his wind-ups of the wind up merchants like Evans were always fun to watch. However, there was an inevitability to this, and after Saturday there was no other sensible decision.

In recent weeks he has done a number of things that have not helped him such as banning the local rag, bemoaning the players etc. It is sad to see, and I don't think he is a bad manager but he was not the right person to take us forward.

The players clearly gave up at the weekend, they have one more opportunity now to show that the problem lay with the manager and not them. At 5pm on Saturday I said i would not go to the last game, but I will now and let's see what happens.

His leaving clearly leaves the Board with a big strategic issue beyond the first team as they had clearly bet everything on Adams.
