We tended to play really well in the first half of games, and then he would have a tendency to drop deeper and sit on leads which often backfired. So very much a risk-averse manager, albeit some of the attacking stuff we would play when we were on it really was excellent and he always had us in and around the top seven. There is an argument that perhaps the squads we had during his tenure had the ability to push on a bit higher than that if they were a bit bolder, so it will be interesting to see if he is a little more adventurous with you.
Of the players that we have released, Tom Lapslie and Courtney Senior could be possible additions albeit they're complete stab in the darks. Lapslie was always a solid 7/10, a tenacious holding midfielder who might go unnoticed until he's not in the side. He missed much of last season with injury but it was a shame to see him go really and McGreal always seemed to like him. Courtney Senior has had a poor 12-18 months, but he was really excellent at times in recent years with the potential to play higher so he might be another that he would fancy giving another go to - skilful winger.
All the FGR journos have published the story, all club 'ITKers' know it, betting suspended - will be announced in the morning, no doubt. Is Cooper to Barrow just speculation at this point? The website only mentions Rob Kelly going to another club.
If he lasts past Christmas ill be surprised.Keith Curle has been made "permanent" head coach
Weren’t you paying Dossena silly money a few years back with one of the top budgets in League 1 and still get relegated?I would imagine near enough. $alford will of course have more, aside from that I can't think of any obvious 'big' budget teams, maybe Bradford, Mansfield, possibly Vale or FGR? Not really sure but we'll certainly spend a little over summer.
Our owners aren't ludicrously wealthy but we're well run and stable.
That was our previous owner. Made Fenty look like Jack Walker.Weren’t you paying Dossena silly money a few years back with one of the top budgets in League 1 and still get relegated?
That's bang out of order. Terry Cooper was one of our best managers ever, producing our only championship winning side, playing great attacking football and getting the best out of players. He is a legend.Cooper is everything that's wrong with football these days. Producing horrible cheating sides more intent on winding up the opposition, time wasting and players feigning injuries amongst the antics.
He obviously inherited the tactics from his dad who was part of Revie's dirty Leeds team.
So no thanks mate.
Out of curiosity why did FGR sack him?
They might even have been playing on Monday with himAlright manager to be fair.
I'm sure Cooper will be good for Barrow, at least for a time, and maybe them for him too. (Entertaining to read some of the Barrow forum comments about him, though).
If he lasts past Christmas ill be surprised.
Cooper is undoubtedly a very good football manager but does have a personality problem. He does not suffer fools easily and can easily fall out with those who come up against him.All the FGR journos have published the story, all club 'ITKers' know it, betting suspended - will be announced in the morning, no doubt.
L2 is his Division isn't it? Found wanting in L1 but his style does an alright job in L2 or have I got the 2nd part wrong?
Only time will tell.Just read the official site, I think we will be in with a shout for sexiest manager at last even if the football isn't up to much. Great hair, Rob. Also him being a former defender is a good thing given our frequent lapses.
I don't know so much about consolidation - a top 10/11 budget last season suggests that's the aim this year, and probably play-offs the following year.I mentioned a story about him having a ding dong with our manager Dave Bayliss who is a hothead himself. He swore at some of our fans once too and resultantly we should avoid at all costs according to some. I agree with Monkey, we need a manager who knows how to consolidate for a few seasons, so I'd be happy with it.

His last job at FGR was the longest he had remained at one club for such a long period of time. During that time fans had seen some changes in his managerial style.
[#] For many years MC would name and shame players who had been having a bad game. That used to drive the fans mad, who then said it was him who selected the guy to play!!
But for the past year or so he stopped doing that
[#] Expect some of your more experienced and favourite players to be immediately dumped. Within months the team will be different from one that just finished season.
Cooper likes to sign younger players who he can mould to his playing style rather than trying to convince experience players of his thinking.
[#] FGR fans never took MC to their heart and it seems it was mutual. During the promotion year Cooper always selected his son Charlie at the expense of ‘better’ players. Charlie came in for considerable flak which perhaps distanced his father from the FGR fans.
Perhaps with a new beginning and no Charlie, MC could develop a better relationship with Barrow supporters, although don’t expect a Danny Cowley style gee up at any game. MC is very reserved in that respect.
[#] Despite what has been written by others on this forum, MC likes his team to play clean. Annually FGR received less disciplinary cards than most other clubs.
It is a fallacy to say MC instructs his players to use unauthorized tactics to gain an advantage. Opponents regularly said Ebou Adams fell over too easily but stats showed he was the most fouled player in EFL2.
[#] Cooper’s playing style is to retain possession of ball so that opponents run out of steam trying to regain possession, at which time his team will pounce.
Expect same at Barrow, so learn to be patient while your players ‘fanny about’ passing between each other.
I expect Barrow to do well next season and finish in top half of table, perhaps even snatching a place in play-offs.
Good luck.
Vince Dale already shouting from the rooftops that FGR are going a different way to everyone else, by making the sort of appointment that around 50% of managerial appointments at this level are.FGR going down the route we took 12 months ago. Young, hungry managers that have worked their way through the ranks but inexperienced.
If they build a good team around them in terms of coaches, analysts, recruitment team and they get it right then anything can happen. Too many team keep employing the same old cloggers going round and round in circles.
That same thought went through my mind.Vince Dale already shouting from the rooftops that FGR are going a different way to everyone else, by making the sort of appointment that around 50% of managerial appointments at this level are.
Yeah but probably fair to cut the bloke a bit of slack, he has only been involved in football for around a decade and didn't seem to have any involvement whatsoever before that, either as a fan or player...he is still learning!Vince Dale already shouting from the rooftops that FGR are going a different way to everyone else, by making the sort of appointment that around 50% of managerial appointments at this level are.
