Anyway, just watched Lee's first interview. He talks a lot about developing the players he already has, that seems to be his thing having been in charge of Boro U23.

It also suggests, maybe I'm wrong, but just a hunch like, he's not getting much to play with in Jan.

Has Lee Turnbull been confirmed? So much of our current on field problems are down to his shambolic recruiting over the summer, quickly binned by Adams not long after

Certainly gone down in the world, should have stayed with exeter, MK didn’t work for him sadly - a good man.
He wanted a 2 year roller which we terminated and didn't want to sign anything but a roller.

He's a fraudulent manager. He got promoted with MK on the biggest budget in the league, and by nicking our best players because he knew they had certain clauses in their contracts. He got us promoted from the national league (then conference) and league 2 with a squad he largely took over from the previous manager. Got us there or thereabouts in league 2 after he got us relegated in 23rd place from League 1 - But was nothing special and nothing that Matt Taylor in his first managerial job hasn't been able to do, if not exceed.

Yep, here to help with the January transfer window, we're advertising for a head of recruitment, so maybe a trial run, who knows?

Rob Edwards clearly doing well in his first management stint but will be interested to see how he does with recruitment over the long term as the core of the squad is Cooper's players. MC has a great eye for talent, sadly he then falls out with half of them, reckon half of Edwards success is just that he's able to get that tune out of them, but would he have spotted it beforehand?

Completely underwhelming appointment. We as fans were not asking for massive names or anything ridiculous. All I wanted was an ambitious manager with experience managing at this level. Boro’s U23 gaffer and Nelse who just been sacked from Blyth spartans who are sat 20th after 9 straight defeats. It just screams of Raj doing things on the cheap again.

They both have my full support now they are in, starting with going to both Sheff Wed tonight in the pizza cup, and Lincoln on Saturday. But it is essential we get off to a good start in the league, or I can see the fans turning on Raj unfortunately.

I dont think he is "fraudulent". The fact he signed some of our former players with known buyout clauses or contracts expiring is simply working within the rules of the sport.

The real fact of the matter is that he called out some fans for being complete tools and they then got all salty about it. That's the real reason some people hold a grudge about the bloke. He does tend to waffle in his interviews a bit but that's not the reason people like you harp on about him.

I dont harp on about him. I get the fact you were a tisdale enthusiast but he wasn't this fantastic manager you proclaim. He took over a good squad, got promoted back to back, took us back down and when we terminated his 2 year rolling contract we were in the L2 relegation zone. He got promoted (just) with the biggest budget in the division with MK and has failed ever since. He is a fraud, but a proper chap. And the opponents are always entitled to win, when his tactics go tits up. Even Curzon Ashton

So which club wants Michael Carrick as their manager as he has left Man Utd.

I thought FGR had that ex-Everton guy in charge of recruitment?

Interesting you mention that, think that was part of the issue previously as although they did work together Cooper and Hughes (our director of football) had different views on potential signings. I was talking to a close relative of one of last seasons signings and they said that it was Cooper who kept calling them and did a lot of the groundwork, they only met Hughes when they signed their contract. Think that will probably be different now with a younger head coach.

Apparently Matt, Stokes and Wagstaff were very much pushed by Cooper as they went against club policy of signing mainly youngsters, and certainly not players pushing 30, probably part of the reason the latter 2 left at the end of last season.

Hughes expertise is primarily in scouting academies and he also has some good contacts in Scotland.

Cooper was great at spotting players, remember he signed Doidge, Pinnock and Brown, like JF said man management was the issue. Players these days need a cheerful/arm round the shoulder type of manager, which Cooper definitely wasn’t. The harder approach doesn’t work so well.

How far can we go? Realistically, league 1.

That's not the problem, it's a town of people from other places. Everyone seems to come from somewhere else and owes their football allegiance to another club (I stand with a Sunderland and a West Ham fan).

The only way to improve the players we attract is to improve our finances. The only way to improve our finances is to get people through the gate (sponsors will follow). The only way to get people through the gates is to play attractive football, add in some excitement and a cup run every now and then. Just now we are serving up turgid boring hit and hope stuff which was summed up by the game v Mansfield where we didn't have a shot (at all) in the first half and only two until the 80th minute. Our crowds are dropping and that includes long term fans not bothering anymore which will lead to sponsors pulling out.

Don't know the answer. I'm not sure there is one but going out with a whimper ain't it.

Anyone else visualising the giant icy tentacles of non-league emerging from The Void and dragging the entire Broadfield Stadium into its grinning maw?

Not sure what you're actually asking but generally Tisdale tries to get teams to play passing football. At this level however players don't have the skill to play tika taka triangles as much as he wants.

What's non league like these days? You were their last.

Seriously, if we get relegated I could see us dropping a couple of divisions pretty quickly and struggling to get back.

We do seem to have a decent owner. OK not a billionaire but he does seem to care (god knows why) so we have a good chance of sticking around for a good while yet...just to annoy all you old fashioned legacy clubs.

To be fair there’s so many Tinpotters (yourselves, FGR, Sutton, Stevenage, Morecambe, Colchester etc.) in the League these days it’s hard to know who to root against. Apart from Salford, obviously.

Yeah non league is becoming a distant memory for us too, quite a few teams in the National League these days that we never played.

In our 5th season now, level with teams like Boston, Kiddy and Rushden and very likely to go ahead of them barring a disaster. We’ve now spent more years in the Football League then New Brighton Tower, which says a lot.

New Brighton Tower were a club created to play in a stadium in a resort during winter that vanished because nobody watched them. New Brighton Rakers lasted 30 years.

Bit like AFC Fylde then.

You not far from where the old ground was?

Both old grounds. The one New Brighton Tower played in was near the prom and was huge. New Brighton Rakers original ground was called Sandhey Park but was demolished during the war after bomb damage and they moved to the Tower Grounds. It had a footprint the size of Wembley. Both have got houses on them now and the only sign either existed is a perimeter wall of the Tower Grounds. Never saw football there but it was so big it had a stock car track around the pitch.

Sorry E10. I wasn't being serious. I hope it came across as tongue in cheek but looking back I'm not sure it does.

Does every area have their own mentally challenged lady?

Around Crawley she was called Mad Mary (not her real name) and she used to walk the streets threatening passes by with dire consequences for some imagined wrong. The rumours about her life were many and varied but all seemed to involve some tragedy where her husband had died and her mind broke.

I believe she has her own Facebook page now!
