First game Hughes has in the dug out might well be the first League 2 game he has involved in. Is he in for an eye opener !!! Don`t think anybody saw that appointment coming. Not sure how I would feel about it if I was a Bradford fan to be honest.

He's managed the like of Tevez and Bale...now he's managing Theo Robinson and Fiacre Kelleher

:fish:

I'll get behind and back him. Welcome to the club, Mark.

That was unexpected to say the least. More than decent record overall though I’m particularly a fan of his final year at Stoke..
Don`t forget the shambles that QPR were under him and that despite gazillions at Man City he got them midtable.

Can’t be true. Apparently Rupp never puts his hands in his pocket. [ahem]

On a serious note, we’ve tried young managers, promoted coaches from within, we’ve tried club legends, managers who have great track records and some that don’t. English managers, Scottish managers. Given Hughes’ track record, I don’t see why he can’t be successful in a league he doesn’t know.

In addition, it’s seems as though there is little expectation for the remainder of the season - pressure is off. The vast majority of the squad are out of contract come the end of the season, so it’s a great platform (for any manager) to build from. I also believe Hughes will have been given assurances regarding financial backing for next season, too. I can see us chucking some serious coin about to break this year-on-year regression.

Given the type of club we are, double promotions can never be disregarded, either.

Reminds me of when we took on Dave Jones as manager in our relegation season, manager who’d only been in the top flights of the pyramid, dipping down to League 2 after 4 years of doing nothing, it was a disaster.
Also Tim Sherwood, who once managed Tottenham and Aston Villa but failed at Swindon.

Tim Sherwood apparently was Director of football for us. It was an odd time when he was about, sometimes he'd be in the dugouts, other times not. Don't think he was ever manager though really.

Excited. Most are anyway. And why not, we’ve had 5 years of constant decline and genuine worries of a relegation battle next season. It could turn out to be a total disaster, but it’s taken our minds of who would want the job and potential protests and boycotts.

It’ll at least be interesting for a while and why not he’s achieved more than most as a player and managed the 7th most amount of games in PL history with a 37.5 percent win rate which isn’t bad considering the teams he’s come up against.

So Mark Hughes it is then.

The man who will face us in our last ever football league fixture.

Hard to compete with the big spenders like Stockport, Wrexham, and Chesterfield, especially with only 2 promotion spots in the Conference.

Worse. If we go down under this ownership, the club won’t exist after a few years.

Mark Hughes, a former international manager. The man who was manager of Manchester City when they became the richest club on the planet. Someone who has managed multiple Premier League clubs, and has played for (among others) Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich now has the opportunity to manage a game at the VBS Community Stadium. What an upgrade for him!

Vale just released a statement DC is remaining on compassionate leave so does seem it'll be a while. Now brought in Adam Murray as a temporary coach who was recently at WBA. He was actually linked with our managers job when it was last vacant or at least listed quite high up the betting odds.

I think Bradford have the sort of cachet that might encourage a manager like Hughes to drop down to this level without having to break the bank. If Hughes is serious about resurrecting his managerial career then he shouldn't be expecting too much money but may consider a club such as Bradford to appropriate to the prestige he hopes to have.

Good move I think and confirms DC probably won’t be with us until next season understandably.

Sensible move and thoughts with DC at such a tragic time.

I’ve heard something but no idea if true and don’t really want to disrespect his privacy by sharing it, all I will say if true then I completely understand why he wouldn’t be back at work.

Mark Hughes to Bradford City reminds me of when Tommy Docherty came to Rotherham in the old second division (Champ now).
He promised to get us out of the division and he was as good as his word.
Not sure he meant through the trap door though.

fair enough, in fairness i was kinda hoping you wouldn’t be saying what you’d had as obviously anyone affected in that way has had a bad deal given to them.

What are your thoughts on Adam Murray from when he was at Mansfield? Seems to have spent a long time coaching at Championship level so must have something about him.

I think a few Vale fans were wondering why Flitcroft didn’t step in to manage the team but I’m glad we are keeping his role separate from the day to day coaching side to keep some consistency. Also he has been really good in his role for us but with his love of business speak it might get very wearing after a short while in interviews.

Predicting our relegation from the league is no longer enough for hellogregory, he's moved on to predicting the demise of our club.

It’s the wrong time of the season to have flitcroft in the hot seat, he’d choke and fuck things up when it’s more or less impossible not to.

Adam murray was well liked, he took over as player manager after we parted ways with paul cox who’d got us promoted again - he was our captain when we won the conference, he’d receive a very warm welcome if he’s about a few weeks on tuesday.

It’s nice that he’s been doing well, with us really the budget was reduced and well, he kinda lost the plot a little - we played some decent football under him really attacking football, we had one game when we lost a thriller to bristol rovers 3-2 in the last minute and he just went so defensive - almost one side of the spectrum to the other.

I’m sure more experience and age will have seen him improve - he’d always be welcome at mansfield.

I don't get the idea that Hughes must be getting paid a fortune. He can either have a pay packet from football, say, the same size as Adams or no pay packet at all. If he has stashed away enough not to need a pay packet, it suggests he's taking the job for the right reasons.

Well said. Hughes approached us not the other way round and I’ve no doubt he’s a millionaire having been at the top end of the game for so many years, but sure, we’re paying him £20k a week to manage the side 15th in league 2.

Think Mark Hughes is onto a winner at Bradford. Surely he can’t do any worse than the previous incumbent with what looks like a better than average league 2 squad of players.
