Had to go really. The statement from the club said it wasn’t just about this season, but about the piss poor results from the whole of this year (since Ryan Yates left in fact).

I think he’ll always be welcomed back for 2017, but his cards were marked after yesterday’s indescribably limp second half.

Makes backing him up so much in the summer even more crazy than first thought then.

That argument might stand for Flitcroft yet aswell.

Sounds like just the kind of thing Notts will probably do, then. :D
His tenure at Crawley so far seems to have consisted of him drawing criticism for strange tactical choices and starting to come under pressure when they lose a couple, then redeeming himself with a good spell.

He'd probably be Nolan mk2

Only based off what I've seen on here I don't think Crawley fans will be shedding too many tears if he left them. May be wrong though. I'd have thought Bowyer would be the obvious choice personally.

Unfortunate for Nolan as overall he has done a good job there but am sure he will get plenty of other offers from elsewhere as the season progresses (Vale may be one of them if Aspin doesn't improve sharpish).

Don’t quote me on this but I reckon our form since January is worse than theirs. We haven’t won away this calendar year and we have a manager that doesn’t even try to win away. That said, Aspin has only (sort of) just put this team together so he’s going to get at least half a season.

Got to be Sol Campbell’s job?

I always thought Aspin was viewed as the ‘chosen one’ and overall was making good progress?

You have to back the manager you’ve handpicked surely?
Nolan, Evans,Flitcroft whoever. I can’t understand the criticism, generous chairmen fully back their manager then we it goes pear shaped can make a snap judgment and part ways/appoint. After investing substantially it makes it a lot more justifiable

He seems to take a few steps forward then 4 steps backwards. His negativity, weird starting line ups, weird subs and apparent lack of tactical knowledge is certainly unsettling a portion of our fans. It began last season and has continued into this season; we’ve played well for half of 1 game out of 6 in the league and cup and this is despite him bringing in some decent signings.

Bit surprised at this because I didn't get the impression yesterday that the players weren't playing for Nolan or had downed tools.

This is similar to the Johnson one i.e. a decision made off the back of last season, too, although to allow a manager to spend that much money, you'd have assumed he would have got a little more time.

But surely backing him in the summer and then when sacking him using last seasons results is a bit of a contadiction ,mind you it is big al

A premature sacking but one that’s seen the inevitable coming. It’s not just about being bottom this year, it’s about our form since January and it’s about the manner in which he’s gone about managing since the players returned for preseason. Bad team selections and then publicly blaming the team for defeats.

You don’t go from being extremely popular in the dressing room to completely losing it in the space of 2 months without being rather erratic. Nor do you lose the trust of a chairman who thought you could walk on water 6 competitive games ago without there being more to it than just a relatively short winless streak.

Should be an attractive job for whoever gets offered it. Rock up, pick a central midfield that actually fancies defending out of the 24 options you can choose from, don’t pick Duffy and tell everyone to pass it to Boldewijn and there’s success to be had.

Harry Kewell is the bookies' favourite and his odds are still shortening, someone must have heard something

Liverpool fan Alan Hardy fancying a new best mate to play golf and go to the cricket with.

Gary Bowyer seems like the obvious, sensible and almost fortuitous hire. Which is why Hardy probably won’t do it.

It is, using post Xmas results is a somewhat valid way of justifying it, as based purely on 5 games is madness. As I said whenever a Chairman pumps lots of money in and the results are poor/awful he or she will feel it most and is prone to malign bid decisions.

Same applies when your Chairman gave Fat Boy Evans all that money, when he suddenly upped and left without warning , Mr Radford would feel the hurt far more than the fans.

Like many a successful businessman , indecision is not part of their makeup.

Some excellent well considered and reasoned thoughts from fellow pies on here. Blessed

Fair enough, as always only an outsider looking in. Was purely basing it on what Vale fans have previously said on here

Think we will regret this one. Too early. Feels like hardy blaming him for the poor recruitment he will have had a huge hand in.

Whoever comes in... Wil have tid deal with the same terrible Powderpuff midfield.

Kewell would be a terrible appointment. Really not what we need

Agreed. Sometimes the decision is premature and harsh but overall the correct one i.e. Craig Short. This feels different Nolan got so much out of that squad last season feels weird it’s gone so bad so quickly , Hardy has to be very careful what he says on this following impressive unwavering support previously to Kevin.

Saying that, the slowness and either stubbornness or ineptitude of Nolan to identify and act on clear problems/issues whether it be individual player selection or formation / combinations was an obvious concern regarding his managerial ability.

Genuinely, without going into the transfer market we are fucked anyway. Hardy needs to take a long hard look at himself here. I can't see Nolan being the driving force behind the shitty taka

Dunno, Nolan tried it back in January for a couple of games when he decided Husin was a reasonable replacement for Yates. Quickly abandoned it after two home defeats then.

Just what we fucking need. Why not bring him back for one more game and then sack him again next week?

Nolan doesn't strike me as a football purist. I think he was pushed in that direction

It’s not about you Chris, it’s all about us

It affects us though, cos we're the mugs who have to suffer the BACKLASH.

Now you'll probably magically turn into Barcelona in time for next week instead of being cannon fodder.

Cotterill is the only name on the odds so far I'd fancy tbh. Rest are very uninspiring

Wouldn’t touch Cotterill, personally.

If Bowyer wants it, I wouldn’t think twice about giving it to him.

Mark Warburton might be a good option for either Cheltenham or Notts.

Kewell would be a disaster. Tippy tappy nonsense with hilarious defensive moments

Kewell would be a disaster imo. Would once again point that the Chairmen wants a specific brand of football

Bowyer will surely hold out for a Championship/League One club.
