It doesn’t feel like the ideal time to be blooding another inexperienced manager at FGR. Will await developments with interest.
This feels like a game of poker, so in keeping with the theme...I will see your "interest" and raise you "fear"!

Some of our fans might say he will be used to being in charge .

Certainly had a lot of influence on what was going on here and often led the players if there were any issues - hence us having a high turnover of managers!

The immediate Deeney appointment feels from the outside that this has been in the pipeline since day one?

A few things point to that tbh, firstly what Vince said when we brought him in, the fact the rest of the coaching staff never seemed to give him instructions during games whilst with every other player they did, plus he was constantly bollocking team mates on the pitch, players who were then dug out publicly by Horseman but Deeney's poor performances never mentioned. You would almost have thought he was above the manager watching from the outside. So yeah I suppose this has been on the cards.

Looking forward to our relegation 6 pointer next week!

You're on 30 points right now, we're unlikely to go past that total until Easter the rate we're going at. If you can pick up two or three more wins in your last 24 games, you'll probably be safe.

A bit of a catch 22 for FGR at the moment. Vince the biggest problem but without him they sink back down at least one league anyway.
It is...but I have heard fans say that they would be prepared to drop down a division or two just to be rid of him...however, this isn't a widely held view as quite a few are caught up in the cult (careful with my spelling) of Vince and can't see past the shit he spins on an almost daily basis.

2023 FGR coaching moves

25 Jan - Sack Ian Burchnall after 28 league games in charge, having struggled in League 1 but made things worse by decimating the squad with a mad panic January rebuild under a fraud of a DoF (who was sacked soon after).

26 Jan - Appoint Duncan Ferguson on a 5 year deal amidst a blaze of publicity without bothering with any interviews etc. Didn't know anything about the league, or the squad/new signings he'd inherited apart from 'Robbie Savage's boy' and a loan kid he knew from Everton. Lots of great PR for Vince with both posing with veggie burgers at the announcement and Big Dunc later appearing in awkward sponsor videos advertising french pastries (looked like a hostage video) and filming a segment of a TV show at our ground making air fried chips with Denise Van Outen, not long before kick off in a home league match. Won 1 game out of 18.

4 July - Sack Big Dunc 4 days into pre-season after a series of rumoured fallings out over signings and a coaching appointment with our new DoF.

4 July - Appoint head of academy Hannah Dingley as interim amidst a blaze of publicity, with the national media all coming to Melksham for our pre season friendly with her getting hired security and Vince doing an official press conference alongside her, after our impressive 1-1 draw. She took our less then half built squad on a pointless pre season training camp to Ireland and then got two more triallist filled friendlies v Coventry and Everton u21's.

18 July - Appoint Dave Horseman, another elite academy coach with zero EFL experience. Sign 18 players inc bringing in his mate Troy Deeney as player coach.

20 December - Sack Horseman after getting just 15 points from 20 league games (4 wins), a dismal few months of soft/easy to play against tactically unsuitable for league 2 football, constant deluded interviews and a farcical amount of injuries. Not to mention the FA Cup fiasco.

20 December - Appoint Troy Deeney as permanent player-head coach within minutes of sacking the management team. That's despite him being player-coach most of the season, missing the occasional match whilst being away on media duties (inc a trip to Dortmund on the night of an FA Cup tie) and not appearing massively popular with some of our players. Vince promises to heavily back him as our 33 man squad isn't good enough to stay up apparently. DoF who brought in 18 players in the summer, escapes sack and will be allowed to oversee yet another rebuild next month.

It's been a fucking circus.

Probably a bit premature posting this - there’s still 10 days left of this year.

DV has clearly become the Stephen Patrick Morrissey of lower-league football: even apart from the vegan/veggie stuff, the co-existence of the desire to promote beautiful tippy-tappy "progressive" stats-led football (Horseman after the Blackpool defeat: "That was not really a 3 -0 game") with an intense attraction to partially reformed hard-men characters who don't really fit in with "the ethos of the club" is all too familiar....

....Sadly I can't see it ending up other than as a particularly niche turn on one of those depressing "You won't believe what happened at Doncaster Rovers in 1997/98" style documentaries. Hope I am wrong, Deeney is an interesting character for sure, and has said a lot of promising things over the years, but frankly he has often come over as a bit of a c--t in the way he appears to treat the other players at FGR. And that is even putting to one side any notions about him waiting for Rooney to be eased out of his precarious perch at St Andrews....

Yep. Robson wasn't great last season but has been a bit better in L2, not the best at getting tight to his winger or stopping crosses but does work hard and gets forward pretty well at times. Helped by the fact that when our other option Lavinier got fit and played he was utterly useless which made fans appreciate Robbo more. Our narrow system exposed our FB's tbf, which hasn't helped.

Garrick did ok last season, got a few goals but has been injured the whole time this year, not played a minute and now likely out till March after his latest set back.

That produces an image the siege in Waco (Texas), that ended very badly, in the early nineties when a cult leader surrounded himself with his believers...although I gather he has vacated his mansion on Rodborough Common and taken up residence in a canal boat, since his latest marriage went south.

Fuck me. Just been watching Mastermind with Troy Deeney (manager FGR) as contestant.
Fair to say he did not do well: - zero points on specialist subject and I think 6 on general knowledge to come 3rd.
I then checked Wikipedia to find he has a history of rebellion including spending time in the clink.
I wonder if he will have trouble controlling his players if they offer dissent although being jailed for assault might deter some from taking him on.

Suspect Troy will be relieved FGR are playing at exact time Mastermind was broadcast with his less than good final score.

He only comes out on top if you’re on the floor

Neil Wood must be for the chop after losing to Colchester tonight.

He’s already had a go at the owners and they are heading towards a relegation battle.

They, like a lot of teams it seems, have been decimated by injuries. Been without a lot of key players like Watt, Bolton and Hendry for large chunks of the season. They'll probably sack him, but without significant investment in January, I'm not sure what else they can expect from a new manager.

6 points didn’t come last?!

Was Joey Essex one of the other contestants?

He would probably have got lost on the way there.

It was actually former Irish Eurovision winning superstar Dana who somehow did even worse then Troy. Tbf 6 on general knowledge is pretty good, shame he knew nothing about Spider-man trilogy movies starring Toby Maguire. Even I knew a couple and it's been ages since I watched one.

On 25 June 2012, Deeney was sentenced to ten months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to a charge of affray, having attacked a group of students outside a nightclub. The Guardian reported that a "30-second video clip, which was played to the court several times, clearly showed both Troy Deeney and Brennan [Deeney's friend] kicking out at the "defenceless" students, one of whom received repeated blows to the head as he lay injured".[76][77][78][79] He was released after serving almost three months of the sentence. Deeney has cited his grief surrounding his father's death from cancer in May 2012 as a reason for the behaviour leading to his arrest.[4][5]
Losing an immediate family member is never easy, but I've never heard it suddenly turning someone into a person who thinks it's fine to keep booting someone in the head when they're laying on the ground.

Poll on Twitter asking who I want the next Salford manager to be.

Well, I want it to be Mark Hughes, because that would be hilarious.

Always a bit of a worry when a club like Salford hit hard times as they are. more. likely to come and poach managers and players from. teams. around them.

Not a worry for us or Stockport, but you others should be a little nervous.
