Pre-season got underway tonight with a comfortable 5-0 win at Bishop Auckland.

Well having made 8 new signings we have now sadly had to bid farwell to Jack Hazlehurst who has signed a 3 year deal at League 1 Burton Albion. We did get close to 6 figures as a fee for the lad so that is some compensation but he will be missed. Here's hoping one of the new lads can step up.

I don’t know much about him but he seems highly rated by you. Hopefully he makes the step up.

I think the curzon start is interesting, tough first home game vs a champions who will have confidence, two hard away games at South Shields and Brackley.

But if we want again to push that top 7 games which will show if we can, tjose are two away games normally we can easily lose but last season we were better side in both……a change which highlighted our excellent away form to break into that top 7.

The two home games need ham and Oxford vs unknown quantities with a small crowd, games in previous years we’d win but last year we struggled and why we were 7th and not possibly top.

Good tests to see if either A: away form continues and B: home form improves.

We're in the Isle of Man, 250-300 of us over here. Beat them 5-2 tonight. Early days and only pre-season but like the look of Jordan Hunter and Dan Turner, both look really good.

Our game against Scunthorpe has randomly been moved to Friday 30th August. No explanation from both clubs either.

Would be one of the higher away followings on a Saturday so no idea why we’ve decided to do that

Could be worse mate our away game at Notts County which would probably have been our biggest away following of the season has been moved from a Saturday afternoon to a Thursday night by the wankers at Sky TV.

Plus Willoughby back now. Kiddy were after him, I don't know how close that got but the rumour mill was rife in the Douglas pubs at the weekend where we were mixing with club staff and players that he was coming back.

Club have put a statement out about the Kings Lynn game at new year but not this one.

Either Humberside Police have intervened or they want to try out Friday night games again.

Rumour our side is it was pretty much a done deal for him to come here when Chester came in last minute and he chose to go back there instead

National League North 2024/25 - Bet365....Early Odds..

E/W 1/4 1-2-3

Scunthorpe 7/1
Chester 8/1
Kidderminster 9/1
Brackley 11/1
Chorley 12/1
Radcliffe FC 12/1
Oxford City 16/1
Alfreton Town 16/1
Scarborough 16/1
Southport 16/1
Spennymoor Town 16/1
Darlington 18/1
Curzon Ashton 20/1
South Shields 20/1
Hereford 22/1
Buxton 25/1
Kings Lynn Town 25/1
Marine 33/1
Leamington 33/1
Warrington Town 33/1
Needham Market 40/1
Farsley Celtic 50/1
Peterborough Sports 50/1
Rushall Olympic 66/1

Thoughts anyone? Obviously these non-league prices is based on pure guesswork at this early stage.

And depending on each individual clubs summer recruitment?

If I remember I think last season South Shields was roughly around 7/1? And Scunthorpe warm favourites.

And Chester double the odds of what they have been priced up this season.

I’m surprised after Tamworth last season needham are so low, both title winners will think they have a hope.

Would not have Southport so high as they constantly have a reputation to self explode each season.

Harsh price for curzon considering we are really the only top 7 side of last season to not lose players from their side,

Hard to pick this season

We're favourites simply because we're the biggest team.

Our squad is a lot weaker than last year and we have a very inexperienced manager, don't think we will pose that much of a threat this year

We’ve been a notoriously small side for a few seasons now and thankfully Calum seems to have finally acknowledged that it’s held us back. Rawlinson and Bainbridge in particular are two big lads. Then there's Burke, Williams & Pollock as well. Not from open play but from set pieces signs are that we’re going to be like Alfreton on steroids. At last.

Looking at that list of the sides in the division, there's an awful lot of 'filler' in there. Good opportunity for a side to sneak into the play-offs and possibly cause an upset. Scunny, Oxford, Brackley, Kidderminster - outside that I don't see anyone particularly strong.

Chester and Darlo have recruited well, as have Curzon.

Darlo also have a proper manager which is worth several extra points a season, and showed play off form in the 2nd half of last season.

If we don't reach the play offs I will be disappointed.

Chester should win it.

South Shields and Brackely are my picks for the title.

Brackley always seem to be there or there abouts, South Shields are a well drilled team with the best striker/player in the league.

We smashed them 4-0 on their own turf.

They're good but not that good.

Moly record of picking clubs is shocking I think I picked Buxton last season and Chester year before and neither did anything.

Darlington and Radcliffe seem to be the clubs with the most positivity around it currently which may well help.

Brackley will always hover about that top 4, Chester seem to have spent, Scunny for me too much turnaround to do same as last season.

Alfreton and curzon seem to be hoping the same sides can achieve the same, Chorley I’m not sure about.

Hard league to read

Interesting that no-one seems to be mentioning Oxford City - I can only assume that it's because most aren't that familiar with them having spent most of their time in NLS, but they've been a strong side at this level for several years up to and including their promotion. Last season wasn't great, granted, but I think they've recruited pretty well.

It’s hard to say much on Oxford as know little and will add to the debate on whether southern or northern is stronger.

Needham is another interesting one because unlike bishops they have not come into this league moaning and complaining about being in the north but trying to add into a title win and will be another unknown factor
