Funny old game, first Notts-Mansfield one in 11 or 12 when we have actually showed more desire. I feared the Stags attacking unit before the game but never expected them to have 0 shots on target. Bizarre performance from Lee Mason, could have been 3/4 Mansfield reds on another day and at least 1 for us (Stead), and then proceeded to give virtually everything to us and nothing to Stags.

Delighted with the result though. Great atmos. No offence Staggies but would quite like there to be another derby next season ;)

That's the Grant we saw for the second half of last season thankfully, Enzio was superb, twisting turning power and running at them, CMS showed all his experience and a stunning strike, solid at the back and crunching aggression in the middle, power play football for almost ninety mins

Notts are a different team in the last few games. Genuinely one of the best performances I have seen from Notts in a big game for years. We often go missing in front of big crowds

The game was a dominant Notts win. Mansfield were surprised I think by the intensity of of the midfield duo who bossed the game. Doyle and O’Brien will give us a base to really give survival a shot. Special mentions for Mackail Smith, Mitch Rose, and Gomis who gave problems to Mansfield all day. Jorge Grant has shown me again why he will never make it in the championship.

Doesn’t really matter now, but it’s a red card all day every day. Mellis was also lucky boy not only for that challenge but just in number of fouls alone. Mansfield always seem to get the luck of the refs in these games

Win is great but in the grand scheme of things staying up is what’s important. Hopefully today becomes a standard we can play to consistently. That way we have a chance

Not just a big game YouPies but the biggest Nottinghamshire derby ever ;)

The marketing clearly worked, that is good attendance for this derby game any other season. But it’s an incredible attendance giving we are bottom, won only 5 all season before kick off. To get that many supporters today is a huge credit to the club but more so the Notts fans. The latent fans who have come out when we are at our lowest point, to make a noise and support the boys and try and keep our all important league status.

its difficult not to get too carried away with that performance. We did all the orrible, dirty things of the game so well. It was only our finishing and the final ball into the box that saved the Staggies from a bit of a shoeing.

Teams at the bottom beat teams at the top all the time, but there can’t be many times when they’ve been so comprehensively outclassed.

From our point of view the ref was pretty awful I thought. We fully deserved to lose but from the away end he seemed to favour the hosts in most of his decisions. It felt like there was 7 or 8 decisions in a row that were marginal and went in favour of the home team.

Not sure what I made of the big decisions, you may well be right but I felt like all the little ones went County's way.

Enjoy the win, must be nice given how you've been against us for years!

That s a new team we're fielding, the table is misleading.
I expected a fifteen minutes spell of pressure from the Stags but it never really happened.
Great to see Bish, still a good footballer but he's having to manage himself now, can find a pass, play the percentages but the dynamism has gone. We won the midfield battle today, more eneegy, every loose ball fell to us, every bout of head tennis ended up with us in control of the ball.
No Pie played badly but CMS gets a 10 from me. Just turned 36, steel pin in his shin but absolutely ran the Stags ragged and scored a pearler. That was in from the moment it left his foot, I was right behind it and even my 78 year old neutral dad jumped out his seat.
Great day to be a Notts fan.

I thought that Mason realised he’d got one badly wrong early on with the Turner yellow card and then gave most marginal things our way. Was amazed that he only added four minutes on at the end as well.

That said, both Mellis and Pearce put in pretty poor studs up tackles as well that could’ve been red on another day.

Fully agree about CMS. Thought his touch was a bit lacking against Lincoln, but he was different class today. What we’ve been lacking up front all season.

I think you're exactly right Jacob, he bottled the big one and spent the rest of the game atoning. We got loads of soft free kicks for the rest of the match.

See I thought there was a handball that led to the Turner foul, but I was sat miles away so couldn't say for sure. Mellis could have been a sending off, dangerous if mistimed but not sure it was malicious. Will be interesting to see them again. Pearce one I didn't see.

Stringy it is very nice and in the circumstance vital ! Can’t believe that Mansfield ended with the full quota on the field . The first was 100% a red card , very poor from the ref of supposed high quality ! The rule is plain and simple in that situation . The Mellis one was a red too but seen them not given . Pearce one ? Not for me .

None of the above matters as we got the job done comfortably as our visitors have done so many times previously at Field Mill .

As long as the best side on the day won , that’s all that matters . Great to see Bish back at Meadow Lane . Whichever Stags fan said he was at his peak this season , you couldn’t be more wrong . As my fellow pie stated he had all the attributes of the Bishop we had but without as much energy and dynamism . But that’s natural , he’s old .

CMS suprised me , excellent. As for Doyle and Jim O’B wouldn’t want to face them in midfield ! Doyle is absolute quality what a pick up :brill:

Deffo handball by the county player before the Turner booking.

Worst performances of the season easily, Notts County didn’t actually offer much themselves but definitely deserved to win - they won every battle and we didn’t have a shot on goal!!!!

I’m actually in shock, we have played poor this season but never have we not put in 100% effort like today.

That’s a fair assessment on the ref, he gave literally everything for County in that second half.

I need to see the Mellis challenge again but it looked a good tackle from my (to be fair poor) view.

Funny league this. I guarantee if that game had been 4 or 5 weeks ago Mansfield would have won 2 or 3 nil. At the end of the day our league position is still perilous and Mansfield’s is still enviable, but I’d be surprised if we didn’t stay up and Mansfield didn’t go up.

Agree all the small decisions seemed to go our way but the two major ones went massively in Stags favour. Just one of those is given as a red and it wouldn’t of ended 1-0.

The two big questions for me before the game were who will win the central midfield battle and would Grant be a match winner or go missing?

And the answer was Ref Stopped Fight in midfield battle early and search parties are still trying to locate Jorge :dk:

I wonder what Costa Del Stag thought on iFollow?

Lincoln, FGR and now you have all said you've had off days against us. You haven't, you've just all come up against a top three team who are currently bottom. This is an entirely different proposition to the jellies of three weeks ago.

What so Notts County are so good that Mansfield ain’t capable of a shot on target against them? Yeah alright then!:lol:

You didn’t actually offer much uptop in reality, but definitely dominated.

Semantics . You dominate the game you win the battle in midfield , defend really well , keeper has nothing to do for 90 mins . With Enzio , Stead and CMS you are going to win the game with ease . Two of those three impressed you today , surely ?

The top three thing is too far, but I think there’s an element of truth in it - I think both Lincoln and Mansfield looked like they were set up for and expecting a game where they’d have lots of possession and be able to dominate against a really poor side low on confidence. Neither have been able to adapt after realising that this new look team is actually quite a bit better than that.

Yeah fair enough the ‘top three thing’ is way to far (and arrogance springs to mind) but we were not in any shape or form up to that, we didn’t win a single battle for the ENTIRE game.

Yeah definitely, it was very much like a Notts performance at Field Mill since we came back down to this league.

But I do think we were good and, even if you lot had turned up and got a foothold in the game, I don’t think there’s any guarantee that the result would’ve been different.

40% possession and 0 shots on target says it all . Not sure even during all our defeats to Mansfield we’ve failed to trouble the keeper once !

So delighted that promotion bound Stags had such an off day as we needed those unexpected 3 points .

I’m sorry but Mansfield are a better team than County, it’s all guesswork but if we actually show up you would expect a point at least. I’m not trying to take away from County, they deserved to win by a absolute mile and did play well but you can’t just take away the factor that we massively underperformed, did County have a factor in that? Definitely.

I know Radford is all about getting the Stags in the community and everything but running a “win a place in the team” raffle for such a big game is pushing it a bit far.

I take it that’s how the lad in the no 23 shirt got on the pitch?

Well, the weird thing about this Notts team is that no one has any idea how good they are. They’re basically three games into the season.

I guess we’re just always going to look at it from different angles. For a Stags fan it’ll just look like they underperformed, but as a Notts fan I look at us managing to get two or three players around Grant every time he got the ball, us managing to get Mackail-Smith into space in behind Benning constantly, Stubbs marking Walker out of the game etc etc

For what it’s worth I thought that Stags looked well up for it and were flying into challenges all afternoon, but they never got a foothold in the game because Notts were better tactically and much much quicker whilst (for once) matching the work rate and physicality.
