Good point for us. Three academy players making their full debuts and one of those scored (Joel Randall). No Randell Williams but we didn’t miss him. Matt Jay is in for a big season.

Negatives are that we’re suspect defensively. Hopefully we can rectify that in the coming weeks.

A draw doesn't look a great result I admit and there's a resounding sense of disappointment amongst our fans.

However, we were missing 4 key players that would no doubt start every week including last season's top scorer, and we would have won if Hird hadn't given away a daft penalty.

1 nil win against Grimsby, fair result I'd say but they will be right up there. We should have taken our chances in the second half and they hit the post in added time to almost punish us for our slack finishing.
Think it was an even game up until you scored. You then coasted pretty much as we were exhausted. That’s what no pre-season gets you! Wes McDonald continues to impress me whenever I see him.

Heard it all before, I suppose you’ll get it right eventually!

some Carlisle fans probably got excited by losing the opening game of the season. Lovely fans but not the most optimistic type.

In another life I’d be a cracking Carlisle fan

a draw against Stevenage is a bad result.

A very, very cagey game against Oldham and to be honest 0-0 would've been a fair reflection of the game, we started well but faded out of the game. Both sides had a few half chances, but neither keeper was troubled too seriously throughout - Just dealing with routine shots and crosses.

Then in the last minute, Big Jamie Turley wins a header from a set play and feeds Danny Johnson in who scores for the 4th game in a row (following on from last season) and we manage to nick the game 1-0, scoring the games only clear cut chance.

Both sides looked average at best, being two of the weaker sides at this level I wasn't suprised how the game played out. It could've gone either way at the end, but today we sneaked the win.

We drew 1-1 with Barrow. Glad to get a point in the end as for long stretches it looked like we were going to get off to a losing start.

I thought Barrow started quite well, won a penalty when Hutton made a needless challenge, which was converted to give them the lead. After that we managed to get a bit more of a foot hold in the game but it was scrappy, we won a lot of set pieces which were wasted and generally created very little.

Second half saw an improvement by both sides with the game more watchable, Barrow forced Cumming into a couple of decent saves to keep us in the match. We started to look more dangerous as the game wore on, and with 5 minutes to play List won a penalty after another needless challenge in the box. Effiong stepped up and made it 1-1. We looked the more likely to get the winner but fluffed our lines when a potential opening presented itself. A winner for us wouldn't have been deserved, a draw probably just about a fair result.

Player wise I thought our two subs made an impact. Effiong was a handful and Read looked like a very tidy player. He got around the pitch well, was efficient with the ball, looks like he could be a good addition. Aside from giving away the needless penalty I thought Hutton looked to offer something at left back. Would like to see Coker in a LB when he's back with Hutton shifting over to RB.

It might only be one game but it's nice to look at the table and see us outside the bottom two for a change!

Yeah, some very tired legs out there, Walsall looked fitter and our subs weakened our team rather than helped the situation.

Level on points with Champions elect Notlob, so not too unhappy!

if we would have got that penalty at the end it would have been a mugging. Fair play to Forest green
Now where do i start Crellin decent. Three centre backs are the worse players to ever put a Bolton shirt on.
The kids we had last season at least did not fall over. Midfield white again decent. Comley poor again. Wing backs poor.Delafonsao decent tried. Sarcevic was he playing. Doyle quiet not his fault no service again.

Fair result for us and colchester. Neither side looked like conceding or scoring. A poor 0-0. We've got a lot of work to do on that front line because as it stands they won't get double figures between them.

I thought nil nil was a fair scoreline. Mansfield edged the game and had the majority of the half chances, but were very reliant on set plays and Cook's physicality. We played the nicer football through midfield when we got the ball down.

Clarke and Ridehalgh were excellent at the back and Khan had a good game.

We look solid defensively, but Vaughan needs more help up front, which I am sure he will get as the season progresses.

We look very shit.

FGR not much better, but enough.

Need to see improvements in the next game, that's 3 on the bounce where we've actually gotten worse each time.

Tranmere average and unambitious away from home but we looked a bit rusty, though the better side for most of the game.. Big improvement on what we saw last season. a point and looking improved already will take that.

Khan just summed up his Mansfield career in 90 minutes, disappears completely.
If that was an improvement on last season, you must have been poor.

Draw away at Salford. Will take that. Could have won it but a point isn't bad for our youngsters considering how much Salford have spaffed on players.
I assume given their budget Salford must be fancied this year, so a draw away is a fairly good result for you. How concerned are you that Randell Williams looks to be off?

That was much better than anything I saw last season. Our fitness and standards actually looked reasonable for the first time in a year. Our best player was our new RWB. The weakest link was Bowery in my opinion.

Not worried at all looking at how Joel Randall and Josh Key played today. It's just a shame we can't play 4 wingers in the same side.

As we found out, Doyle will never create a chance for himself and will sulk and disappear if you do not play to his undoubted poacher strength.

Loan him out to Swindon, Wellens knows how to get the best out of him

He will get plenty of chances once the system and personel change. Stick with both system and team he wont score ten

I dunno, Bowery was a right handful to be fair - although I do get the feeling if Maynard started we would have won that.

I don’t know what us Carlisle fans do to deserve this shit every single year. Different players, same shower of utter shite, year in year out barring the very odd exception. It’s not as if as a club size we’re punching above our weight at this level.

People call us pessimistic, but can you blame us when year in year out we build a new team that gets absolutely butchered on a weekly basis?

That close to your strongest team then Casey?

The one that started the second half is probably close to it. I think we're in trouble.

I have to say Archie Davies was very poor against Devante Rodney and his whole game suffered as a result. Some piss poor passing when not even put under pressure. Trouble is, if you are facing a winger who has you beaten for pace you need help from your midfielders. He was left one on one constantly. Very bad tactics there. I did think Rodney fouled him for the goal though but then I think Vale should have had a penalty for an elbow on your forward (Cullen?).

Tony Craig looked very slow, our midfield looked to be walking and I dont think they won the second ball once. That meant our forwards were starved of decent ball and if we don't find a back to goal striker we aint going to score many anyway.

Not bottom but we may be very soon.

Might be a bit of an out there take but it’s almost as though beating up on the Dog and Duck in preseason is no indicator for when the real stuff starts up against a proper team.

Bolton will be ok eventually but was always going to be a bit difficult to start.

A point and a clean sheet at Mansfield not to be sneezed at.
On balance of play I would imagine we’ll be the happier of the 2 sides with a point.

Our forum is full of miserable c*** though. I watched the match, thought we played well second half and could've hit 3 or 4 goals - check on the forum and we're the worst team in the league...

There's clearly some players that can't make the step up, Hird, Brown and Hindle, but thankfully they're all back-up. The rest will be okay.
