Comprehensive 3-0 win last night against Crewe with out 2nd string and a couple of players who should be in and around the first team who needed minutes. Davies looks back to what we saw of him a couple of years ago, but not getting excited too much as Crewe were desperate to not win, and their lads didn't look interested.

Nice to keep another clean sheet, and good to see a couple of the kids make their debuts.
Pretty much nailed it from our point of view. Utterly disinterested, we had 4 senior players on the bench that could have gotten us back into it at 2-0 in the 2nd half. Instead we wait until we're down to 10 and 3-0 down, then we bring on 2 scholars instead. Giving this competition the respect it deserves.

Kinda hilarious that we have to play Newcastle U21s next month with both sides already out. Almost more useless than a friendly that one given you can learn absolutely nothing from it.

We’ve got the same scenario when we play Exeter. Enhanced training game, I suppose.

We have Vale to play for top spot. Don't know how the next phase works nor am I bothered. I only went to this as the rest of my family never been (my lad is only 11 so let him off...) but the missus never went in the cup 20 years ago!

Good to see more than 1 goal being scored away from home, which is the first time this season.

Woke up to the news that we're through.

Decent result for the reserves tbf, if we don't play first teamers then I'm not arsed. Hope we don't get to Wembley though as I'll no doubt go and it's always a crap day out. We always lose there too when it's not minus 12 degrees inside the ground.
I wouldn't go if we got there. Sick of the shithole and the hassle of getting there.

Would have to go to a playoff final though obviously.

Crawley lost 0-0 at Sutton last night.

Ade Adyamo came on for his first start after being injured in pre season.

We can still go through but as we've never progressed from this stage I doubt we will.

I can't be bothered to look at who else we play. I think it's Villa kids.

Casey

Turns out we have progressed once. 2017 or some such.

From Wrexham perspective every win is a week wages for Mullin. So gotta be worth it.

Beat doncaster, meh.

Us scoring 3 past them is about par but no-one cares about this game

Find someone who looks at you the way Wrexham fans look at the EFL Trophy.
Still baffling for me, seeing such high demand for tickets for this comp. Remember the days of the LDV and chuffed seeing 5k+ for a northern final second leg before we went to Cardiff.

Nowadays it's such a scramble to watch every week in the league, this is the next best opportunity.

Wasn't there a video going round last night of a Swindon fan out cold?
Yep one of them gets booted in the face when he’s on the ground, takes a proper kind of fanny to kick someone while they’re down on the floor, fair play Reading fans.

We've only not progressed from the group once but the bonkers thing was we drew with Doncaster and had to do a penalty shoot out despite being unable to progress! Ridiculous.

Clough described our game tomorrow as a ‘training session’ after our game Saturday. Good stuff.

Think Wrexham will give us a good going over, we’ve literally one fit centre half for the weekend so have to play the one banned tomorrow and can’t really risk any other first team defenders getting injured so expecting us to play probably our most youthful side ever.

We’d be nuts to risk any defensive first teamers that are left or half fit for this.

Ashamed to say we've sold over 6k for the game tonight. I won't be there. Both teams making a lot of changes.

Nothing shameful about that.....once group stage is over there’s no fan in all honesty wanting their team to get knocked out once qualified.
Last years final was the biggest game in Europe that day with 82k.....

I'm going, mainly because I haven't watched us play in 2 weeks so I'm craving some live football.

He might feel tempted to field Mullin and McClean with them out on Saturday but I think and hope he resists the urge. Can see us lining up like this:

McNicholas

Hosannah
Cleworth
Boyle
James
McFadzean

Young
Davies
McAlinden

Bickerstaff
Palmer

Can't see Mullin playing nor McClean, even with both suspended. We'd play anyone who hasn't had much game time.

McNicholas

Hosannah
McFadzean
Boyle
Cleworth
Hayden to get some minutes(?), if not, James

Davies
Young
McAlinden

Waters
Bickerstaff

Just read now from an ITK:

5 players who have came from the youth academy will start tonight, which includes a debut as well.

2/3 unregistered players start as well.

Might even it up a bit then as we will have a large youth side involvement due to injuries and not risking key players. We've got one available centre half as it stands for Saturday so can't really risk him but could play our captain who is banned, our best youth defender is suspended, cant risk either midfielder thats covering wing back as we cant afford to lose either for Saturday, and certainly wont risk our best midfield after the fixture back log and them off with England U20's likely next weekend so likely the American kid we've just signed, Conlon who's been out for 8 months and a couple of the youth players.

Should be a classic

I'm not bothering going to this one, a complete and utter non event. Conlon is a proper loose cannon! Remember his debut for Chesterfield and the Dorking manager said to wind him up and will do something stupid, and it happened by stamping on a lad who was on the floor.

How on earth did he get a club in the league!!

We have actually qualified for the second season in a row, despite last season being the first time we had ever got through the group stage. The reserves have actually done well comfortably despatching both sides. We have a dead rubber with Barnsley to play, we probably need the money to pay off another sacked manager.

An interesting side note, Alexander got Salford to the final before Covid delayed it and he got sacked. So he may have extra motivation to actually get to manage in a final this time. We’ve made 10 changes so far in our first two games but I think he’ll actually play a strong team (by our standards don’t laugh please!) once we get to the knockouts.

Different players. That’s Lucas Covolan you’re referring to who is definitely a bit of mentalist (got sent off twice for us and three if you count a pre season friendly). Was released by us last summer and think he’s in one of the regional leagues now.

Maidstone I believe. He was absolutely nuts, decent keeper but no use if he keeps getting sent off!

Davies, Bickerstaff and Cleworth will be 3 of them. Suspect James as well which leaves 1 more.

McFadz and Hosannah aren't registered so they will start. Waters the 3rd if he goes with him.

We have to play some from the last league game don't we?

I wonder if the youth academy players include Davies and Cleworth, Aaron James will be one to.

Not these days, there are workarounds such as players who've made X amount of career appearances count for one now. We usually make 9/10 changes in this competition, just at the moment our injury situation is so bad its down to raiding the youth side more than we normally would (we've utilised 3 or 4 most games in this but could be more like 7-8 tonight)
