Auto Windscreen final from about 1995/96 I think? Jemson was on loan at Rotherham and got the winner (my family are all RUFC fans).

Got to be fairly even in terms of odds, without having done much research, haven't both been about as consistent as the other throughout the season?

Yep was 96, Jemmo got both goals.

Picking one of Shrewsbury and Rotherham to come up with us is a fucking dire choice. I'll go for Shrewsbury purely for the fact they'll almost definitely go straight back down.

Are you actually arrogant enough to think anyone is ecstatic about a trip to Blackburn lol ?

Commiserations to Scunny, I thought they played the better football over the two legs but thankfully seemed to run out of ideas or composure around the penalty area.

Shrewsbury will be a very difficult opponent, Hursty was a big favourite of mine so if we can't go up it would be some small consolation knowing one of our old boys had been successful.

I would imagine the number of fans for each side will be fairly evenly matched so looking forward to a great day.

So long as we play our best I can take losing to a better team, lets hope it doesn't hang on a poor refereeing decision.

Reckon you'll comfortably outnumber us as you did in the AWS all those years ago (did Hurst play for you in that game btw?) - we may just about top 20K but not many more I think....

Can't wait though - 5th time lucky for us as Wembley I hope! Not sure I can take another defeat there - It's painful....

Think we will take around 20k to 25k but most of the fans what attend playoff finals aren't real fans and just going for occasion.

Hursty did indeed play in the auto windshield final. Left wing back but if you look at old footage you might not recognise him with his curtain hair stlye that was fashionable back then.

Like Reaper says we'll probably take near to 25,000 but about 10,000 of them will probably have only been to a handful of games since our last Wembley final 4 years ago.

As much as I'd like to see the fairytale ending for Shrewsbury, I selfishly would like to see Rotherham win.

If Shrewsbury fail to go up, can't see them challenging again next season. You see it so often with the likes of Tranmere, Leyton Orient, Gillingham, Fleetwood, Stevenage etc just from the top of my head in recent years. Whereas I expect Rotherham to be amongst it again.

20,000 is a very decent following given the expense involved and the fact that a lot of people are away on holiday that week.

If we take more than that I will be pleasantly surprised TBH.

Let's hope for a nice sunny day and a good atmosphere.

Can't really see past Rotherham in the final. We saw it last night the key difference between the two teams were how ruthless they were. Think they will be just like that in the final.

22 years since? Fuck me I'm getting old! I would have said 15 tops, how time flies.

Remember it well. First and only time at the old Wembley and remember thinking what a hole it was with the wooden benches, etc.

A pretty big name strike force with Goater and Jemson up top.

You never can pull the same followings for playoffs (well, non big/southern clubs can't) as you're trying to drive sales in a week rather than six.

You don't need name in the comment when referring to Jemson.

Massive overestimation! We’ve only sold 8.5k so far which is embarrassing. We took 12k ish to the checkatrade so assumed with the boycotts we’d easily beat that. Seems like the day trippers don’t want to see the biggest game of a generation.....

Don’t beat yourself up, it’s not about the numbers it’s about the quality of fan that turn up on the day and from what I hear you’re organising a singing block and everything which I think is brilliant. You’re a good club Shrewsbury with loyal fans, each one of you is worth 8 Bradford day trippers so go there with pride in your hearts and outsing those Rotherham fools like I know you will.

Looking at sales for playoff final it will probably be lowest ever attended with Shrews currently sold 10k ish and Rotherham 14k ish, be lucky to get past 30k overall.

Charlton should have been automatically promoted from the play-off group based on that, Jesus neither of you deserve to grace English football’s second league if your fans can’t be bothered to turn out for you town.

Reckon we'll probably end up with 13-14K in total - not great compared to the 20k+ we took to the previous 2 visits for L2 play-off finals. All our diehards and 5-10 games a season type fans will be there which is the main bit, the cheapest tickets left start at £52 and rise to £80 which is not a pricepoint that will tempt too many more day trippers, most of whom will have been to one of our previous 4 wembley defeats, some as recently as april for the checkatrade final.

The prices are ridiculous - if it was £20 adults / £10 kids then there would easily be more than 20k travelling from shrewsbury.....

That's abysmal

It is what it is - people just don;t have the money mate. Shrewsbury & Shropshire is not a wealthy area , it's a bank holiday weekend ahead of half-term so loads will be away on holiday plus its the best part of £250-£300 for a family to go to wembley for the day.

What are you on about plastic, our town did turn up for that final. Just so happens most of it turned out in Leeds colours instead of our own but the point remains, Rotherham and Shrewsbury don’t deserve promotion if their fans can’t be bothered to back them.

But I will say this for Shrewsbury and Rotherham, at least they have more ‘proper’ fans than Bradford.

Look, Danny, you made a fantastic point about Charlton being automatically promoted which I'm sure the majority of the forum agreed with. Let's not spoil it by going back to this inane stuff about Bradford fans.
