There was slight contact, but Taylor could have stayed on his feet. No penalty, next time score instead of trying to get a fellow professional red carded you fool.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
He took another step then fell over. I think he dived but I am VERY biased. :gr:

He did dive. There wasn't enough contact to send him flying

The pace has slipped a lot in this half and neither side are pushing their full-backs up the wings.

I think the ref got both right actually. The Rovers penalty shout was definitely a dive. This whole "there was contact so it's a penalty" is bollocks, it should be enough contact to actually knock the attacker off his feet than him using it as an excuse to go down.

And initially I thought the Rovers keeper should have gone for the handball but no real suggestion it was intended (can argue either way) and no real guarantee it was preventing a goal scoring opportunity. Referee used his discretion well.

Cracking first half and a much better final than ours last year. The two sides are really going for it. Calmed down a bit this half and the further it goes the poorer the game will become I think as tiredness and nerves increase.

This is crap now. A decent first half but the 2nd is dreadful.
Excuse my ignorance but I take it there's no 'golden goal' or anything like that, just an extra 30 minutes then penalties?

Can we just skip straight to the lottery rather than have the half hour of Dale Winton beforehand?

They're all knackered aren't they?
Out of interest, how much is promotion into the FL actually worth?

Teams more than 2 years out of the league don't get any money to fund youth setups, plus money from TV is minimal

Around £700k to £1m per year, depending on sponsorship deals etc which differ on a club by club basis.

It's a fair old wedge then.
I know the gasheads were saying they would lose some form of 'parachute' payment if they don't get back up this season. I suppose that makes a fair old difference as well?

Surprised by Rovers tbh. Thought they would have a better game, because let's face it, the Gas have the more technically gifted players. Still Grimsby are putting up a good fight. G'won the Mariners :bravo:

Over 47000 at Wembley making it the record attendance, hard to believe its only just over a half full - sounds like a good atmosphere.

This game is going to penalties isnt it? Not a good way to decide a match for a promotion of this magnitude.

Both sets of fans are making themselves heard. Grimsby's have been more consistently loud but when the Rovers lot belt out "Come on Irene" it's a wall of noise.

Both teams look like they've completely ran out of ideas this.

I think this'll go the whole way - but knowing Rovers they'll score a 120+4 goal when there was only 1 minute added on.

Goodnight Irene, surely? Or are they signing Come on Eileen?
