Probably should be taking it back to Carlisle level at least but I think Carlisle should feel quietly confident ahead of the second leg. Good performance second half.

Carlisle were really wasteful in the second half when they was on top, Bradford were the better side first half I thought.

Will take that Carlisle side.

People need to remember 1-0 in a first leg is an akward one for the away side, you could gamble but then go 2 or
More down and flog your home advantage or keep it solid, risk not scoring but hope to just have a slim deficit to claw back at home.

Think Carlisle played well but Bradford defended very well, really a tale of one good chance each but Bradford scored theirs and we criminally missed ours.

I certainly see Carlisle scoring at
Home just depends on how many……said other day the key for this tie may be could Bradford win by more goals here than Carlisle win by next week (we usually
Both win our home games)

Still in the tie so fairly content with the 1-0 defeat.

I knew we’d concede because of late there’s always a defensive cock up. And I knew we wouldn’t score because well it’s Bradford… away.

Had the chances but same old story as I’ve been saying all season. A big lack of quality costing us.

Great idea to have it at 7PM on a Sunday evening, showing absolutely no regard for the fans having to travel yet again.
What the fucks wrong with 3PM on Saturday?

Missed opportunity for Carlisle not to be level pegging going into the second leg, Bradford were very average in that game.

Couple of observations from the EFL play offs this week;

1 - They’re massively overrated and need to consider the National League format where it’s a one off game. I also don’t think there’s a great deal of advantage for playing at home second leg.

2 - Why on earth are teams playing it into the corner towards the end of games in the first leg when it’s effectively half time? It’s absolutely fucking daft

Other than Dorking away, the best trip in football, the play-off format is the one thing that needs bringing to the EFL. It’s better in every way, gets a couple of extra teams in while creating a genuine advantage for teams finishing higher. Then the one-legged games are almost always glorious chaos.

With very rare exceptions like Peterborough the other night, these first legs are generally just setting up a second leg shoot out with no more than one goal in it anyway. Might as well just cut straight to the good bit.

There’s not a lot the NL do get right, but the playoffs they absolutely nail.

Dreadful second half from us, but the norm we only play for 45 minutes. Hopefully we’ll come out of the blocks Saturday and get an early goal then allow Carlisle to shoot and not be able to hit a barn door.

In my head I had it going Bradford 3-0 Carlisle tonight and Carlisle 0-1 Bradford on Saturday.

Obviously we’re still in it only being 1 down but we need to somehow muster up some quality in the final third which we simply don’t have. Sounds like a bit of an impossible task really.

Couldn’t agree more about the National League play off format, you only have to look at the last couple of years results to see how exciting the single leg games are.

Thought we were the better team first half and faded badly after the hour mark or thereabouts. Not sure if it's down to tactics or just some of the older legs in the team; Clayton always looked knackered after an hour, Ridehalgh, Smallwood, and Banks also seemed to struggle. Disappointed Banks didn't score at the end of the first half, and Walker was pretty close with his second chance too, but outside of that, we didn't really create much. At the half-time whistle, I thought we would go on and probably add a second after a decent first half. As Wilsden said though, we tend to be a one-half team which worries me greatly for the second leg.

Carlisle the better side for most of the second half. They needed more pace up top, I felt. Stubbs is an excellent defender but is incredibly slow - Garner didn't get much out of him at all.

<Hello Gregory>
Not sure the 1-0 advantage is enough myself. We didn't do anything up there and I expect Carlisle to beat us 2-0.

Standard City that. Start well, fail to capitalise on going a goal up and then tire in the second half, drop ten yards too deep and become erratic in our play meaning we're penned in for the last 15/20 minutes.

I'll take the win but I'm not at all confident with only a one goal lead. Lack of a left hand side since Chapman has been out is killing us.

Thought Garner played quite well considering the circumstances during the game plus his partner Patrick playing so poorly.

Garner never stood a chance throughout because the referee seemed to have some vendetta on him throughout, don’t think I’ve seen a forward have so many arms and held down that much from defenders throughout game and constantly get zero from the ref.

He has always had a rep of being a nasty little sh*t wind up merchant type forward and wonder if that ref has had issues with him in previous games thus had mind made up he was ‘play acting’ each and every time but your defenders certainly took advantage of that throughout until he was taken off.

Another ref may have given a few of your players cards and gave away some dangerous free kicks, even a pen for the action so they need to be careful of doing same in second game.

Bradford fans been very very quiet second half

Maybe doesn't come across on TV, especially where the cameras are situated, but both sets of fans created a terrific atmosphere last night, the sort you could only dream about at sleepy Northampton

Garner reminded me of Lee Tomlin in that first game of the season where he looked to be trying his best to get sent off, bizarre.
Also laughing at the referee bias, the same one who might not have given a foul on Andy Cook if he’d been stabbed by the centre half, arm in the face/pinned over both shoulders/dragged down all game obviously not punishable offences last night.

We play better away and better results overall this season, so happy with the win last night, however slender it is.

The only thing is we have a terrible record at Brunton Park, not won since 1985. Be delighted with a draw

Rovers went up the first time the NL changed and our semi-final v Ebbsfleet which finished 4-2 was an epic game.

Unsure about going down as far as 9th to get a chance of getting the play-off promotion place though.

You mean Prenton Park?

David Prutton has renamed our ground.

I actually didn't think Garner was trying to get sent off and I’ve still no idea what his yellow card was for having seen it again. I think Dave is right that there may have been previous with that ref which had made his mind up pre kick off.

I’d still start him over Dennis in the second leg. We’re a much better side with Garner starting and can play higher up the pitch. The lack of quality in the team is still an issue but we’ve got a better chance with Garner than without imo

I'm quietly confident that we can turn it around and who knows what after that.

Just need to be more clinical and I think we'll do it.

I’m not that confident, but what’s new there?

We do have to be more clinical yes, given the fact we have to score to stand a chance. But we also have to be better defensively. I thought the goal we conceded was appalling on the night, but having seen Armer’s “defending” on the highlights it makes for even worse viewing. We can’t have any defensive cock ups like that on Saturday or it’s game set and match Bradford City AFC.

Garner's booking was for an accumulation of fouls as the ref signalled at the time. I don’t think I've seen a player throw themselves to the ground as much and as easily as he did, he was an utter embarrassment from start to finish.

On the TV they thought the ref was harsh on Carlisle but the officials did give a free kick when Stubbs didn’t actually touch an away player and the ball was out of play when Carlisle had a shot which went across the face of goal .

So maybe wasn’t all one sided ?

Much better game last night, I thought Carlisle looked close to being a half decent side. They knocked it around fairly well but not enough at the top end of the pitch. Mind you, Bradford didn't create too much either.
