I think our squad looks something like this at the moment:

Goalkeepers:

Defenders:

David Tutonda
Max Ehmer
Bailey Akehurst
Will Wright

Midfielders:
Stuart O'Keefe
Shaun Williams
Ben Reeves
Olly Lee
Dominic Jefferies
Alex MacDonald (Not in contract, but training to prove fitness)

Strikers:
Scott Kashket

Obviously some glaring gaps there, but it's a start. I don't think we have anyone there who will be absolutely wank in League Two to be honest, so you're probably looking at another 8 new signings minimum - 2 keepers, 3 defenders, a wide man and 2 more forwards. There's also the possibility of Danny Lloyd getting a new deal if he can prove his fitness. I think at least 3/4 of those will be loans who come in a bit closer to the season starting so we might not see tonnes of movement. Still work to do on that front obviously, but it's not as disastrous as some fans will have you believe. Shite loads of free agents out there still as well.

On paper central midfield is our strongest area, with O'Keefe, Williams, Reeves and Jefferies offering a good mixture of competition and experience. Rumours (mostly from Orient it must be said) that we're close to signing forward Harry Smith which would make a lot of sense, and would give us the big man/little man strike partnership with Kashket that I expect from a Harris side.

We still need another goal keeper, a right back, an attacking midfielder and maybe a wide player.

so this is what our team could look like this season;-

GK Paul Farman 6'5"
LWB Patrick Brough 6'3"
CB George Ray 6'4"
CB Niall Canavan 6'4"
CB Sam McClelland 6'3"
RWB Tyrell Warren 6'0"
MF Solomon Nwaboukei 6'2"
MF Sam Foley 6'1"
MF John Rooney 5'10"
F Richie Bennett 6'4"
F Billy Waters 5'9"

We should (fingers crossed) be better at set pieces at both end of the pitch in 2022/23
Has Wild says he’s going with a back three and wing backs?

He generally didn’t when at Halifax.

he's not said yet - so until Saturday's friendly we have no idea - everything is speculation - my post was just to show that we could if we wanted play a team of "giants" this coming season.

Oscar Threlkeld is set to leave us shortly. He’s not League Two level, but that’s besides the point.

We’ve offered to help rehabilitate Sean Scannell but we’ve had no news on that for a while. Other than that, we still need a few more signings (imo):

GK, CB (Longe-King is likely to leave), CM (to replace Ben Fox), at least one more winger/wide player and a ST who either scores regularly or holds the ball up. Still got a couple weeks before I start to worry tbh.

First team atm:

Crocombe

Efete. Waterfall Maher Glennon

Clifton Holohan

Orsi

Don’t disagree with most of the 1st XI but how you can have a striker who virtually no one has seen play in front Taylor who was such quality last season is beyond me.

Frankly I’d prefer someone who’s got a better record than both. Taylor is a cracking, intelligent player but his maximum output this season will probably be about 8 goals. Scoring goals was our major issue last year and we have to upgrade in some areas.

I don’t disagree that someone else who can score more would be ideal, I was just bemused that you would have Orsi in front of him at the moment

Unsure about your midfield as both O'Connor and McAlear seem like defensive midfielders. If we do go 442, would expect Lewis to start at least the home games.

We're rumoured to be after a winger under contract. As well as the need for a new keeper, think another central defender and striker are also needed.

I believe the winger is Omari Patrick from Carlisle. Would be surprised if we get him though.

I think McAlear is more of a creative midfielder. He scored seven goals for Inverness last season and 'ran the show' in midfield according to the Caley supporter who came on our podcast a couple of weeks ago.

That’s interesting. Didn’t catch the podcast and had read that he was used in a deeper role. Always exciting to see new players in the flesh, we’ll find out soon enough how Rovers plan to use him.

With the current squad would still be expecting Lewis to start though

Our squad is looking like this, bearing in mind we play 3-5-2 though so the wide lads like Newby and Hippolyte have generally had their biggest impacts as wing backs. Crankshaw is just the ultimate impact player. Don't really see where Whitfield fits when Callum Camps signs (done deal- don't know when it will be announced). LCB could still be an issue, Johnson the main man there, Kitching can play there but it's possibily an area of weakness. Jennings isn't the player he once was either, but heard no talk of him moving away. We're at our maximum off 22 outfield players over 21, Rydel counts as u21

Goalkeepers: Hinchliffe, Jaros
Centre Backs: Horsfall, Palmer, Johnson, Lewis, Keane
Right Backs: Southam-Hales, Minihan
Left Backs: Rydel, Kitching
Central Midfield: Croasdale, Collar, Sarcevic, Camps, Lemonheigh-Evans, Wright
Wide/Attacking Midfielders: Crankshaw, Hippolyte, Newby, Whitfield
Strikers: Madden, Wootton, Quigley, Jennings

We have a very promsing 17 year old midfield called Cody Johnson who will get some minutes in the Papa Johns and then maybe a loan. Also a good young defender called Ethan Pye who's a LCB/LB but unless Challinor is seriously impressed, I think another loan for him is on the cards for his development.

Nowt else to add to that, sign someone who can play LB & left of a back three and that's two strong XIs right there.

I'm with Harry on this one, not sure I get the fixation so many people seem to have with Taylor's return. It would obviously be great if he scored more, but I think he brings enough to the table for it to not be an issue. For me the problem is more about how to bring goalscorer(s) into the squad and implement systems that can be used with Taylor, McAtee, Orsi and any new players. Don't get me wrong though I'm not arguing that we don't need to improve in terms of scoring goals, I just don't think Taylor needs upgrading. I do think he'll need to be used a bit more sparingly though.

On a side note, I also don't necessarily see Glennon as having that LB spot nailed down over Amos.

I think our business is done, as far as incomings are concerned. I expect 2/3 players to leave. Threlkeld and Kelleher being the obvious ones.

Given we play 4231 and the introduction of Oliver, I think Cook might be off elsewhere.

Strongest XI ???

CB: Timi Odusina
CB: Matty Platt
LB: Liam Ridehalgh

CM: Ritchie Smallwood
CM: Yann Songo’o

RW: Abo Eisa
CAM: Jamie Walker

Best transfer window we’ve had for a longtime.

Although you have him in your starting line-up, you missed off Odusina from the initial list and also the young keeper Richardson who will be part of the first team squad

I think Crichlow will be a certain starter myself

As expected Luke James has departed and Wild has said he will have chats with anyone next week if they are not in his plans.
We've also given young keeper Scott Moloney another contract, but immediately loaned him out until January so i've not included him.
We're still a bit light up front even though our strikers have got 8 in 3 so far.
I reckon 2 or 3 more plus additional for any we say are not needed and manage to move on.
I can't see Stevens moving on now - but still think Ellis might and maybe even mr reliable himself Connor Brown

We're expecting a signing in this morning, probably a centre forward. Names linked are a return for Mandron which I wouldn't mind, or Isaac Oloafe who has had spells with Sutton and would be a reasonable signing for me. Either way, we need strikers.

So out of that lot, Danny Johnson will likely be sold soon, James Gale, Owen Mason and potentially Jason Law will go out on loan. We are still going to sign another CB and attacker too.

Worth noting Clough loves nothing more than a versatile player, Hawkins plays mostly at CB but is actually a striker, Akins/Wallace could play upfront or in midfield then be at full back for the next game etc, not had to do much business and I’m happy with the squad but I do think it’s important we get these next two signings bang on.

Worth having a go now we have made some moves:

Goalkeepers

Sol Brynn (on loan from Middlesbrough)
Lewis Ward

Defenders/Wing backs

Reece Devine
Ellis Iandolo (can play cm)
Mathieu Baudry
Cian Harries
Tom Clayton
Ciaran Brennan (on loan from Sheff Weds)
Tyrese Shade (can play further forward)

Midfielders

Jonny Williams
Louis Reed
Ben Gladwin
Ronan Darcy
Ricky Aguiar

Forwards

Harry McKirdy
Jacob Wakeling

Still undecided - Jack Payne, Rob Hunt, Jordan Lyden (OOC but still in rehab/training with the club after another injury hit season).

Youngsters who could be used at some stage/make up the bench George Cowmeadow, Harrison Minturn, Mo Dabre, Oscar Massey, Harry Parsons.

Wheels well in motion in terms of signing players so expect that to be beefed out with another 5 or 6 players with a few of the young lads sent on loan.

Current predicted starting 11 while im bored;

-------------------------------Brynn-----------------------------

-----------Brennan------Baudry------Harries----------

Shade-------------------------------------‐----------Iandolo

--------------------------------Reed-----------------------------

---------------‐--Williams----------Darcy------------------

-------------------Wakeling------McKirdy----------------

Bench: Ward, Clayton, Devine, Gladwin, Aguiar, Dabre, Parsons.

Striker who knows where the onion bag is needed for sure.

The manager has suggested he wants one more which must be a midfielder. Obvs some can play multiple roles. Kids in brackets, Bright is seen as having made the step up already.

First XI looks ok, but zero depth at all. Currently got a few on trial which would plug some gaps and have played a few games, so I'd be surprised if they didn't get offered some sort a deal - Cheye Alexander (RB), Jordan Green (RW), Lewis Walker (ST) and Reiss Greenidge (CB).

As it stands:

Turner
Wright - Ehmer - Baggott - Tutonda
Williams - O'Keefe
Kashket - Lee - Reeves
Mandron

Need another striker and at least one central midfielder at the very minimum.

As it stands - 5 out of those 6 attacking players all have injuries as well 2 of the central midfielders, so 7 players are currently suffering with injuries and haven't really featured so far, which has caused a large chunk of our fans to have a meltdown - particularly after Wellens interview a few days ago when he said he was annoyed with these injuries and that we needed some bodies in the building.

He's right though, we need help and more depth in these areas. By the time the first game comes around we could be behind in preperation and looking at bit toothless up top. A poor start could end up really damaging us.
