Here's Port Vales;-

Port Vale Football Club can now confirm our retained and released list following the conclusion of the 21/22 Sky Bet League Two season.

The following players remain in contract with the football club for the 2022/23 season: Lucas Covolan; Dan Jones; Brad Walker; Connor Hall; David Worrall; Ben Garrity; James Wilson; Tom Conlon; Alex Hurst; Chris Hussey; Aaron Martin; Jake Taylor; Harry Charsley; Sammy Robinson; and Tom Pett.

Following our success in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final, Port Vale are looking to re-engage James Gibbons, Mal Benning and Jamie Proctor – whose contracts will expire on June 30.

The club is also invoking its option to extend the contracts of Nathan Smith and Aidan Stone which will extend their current deal, at this stage, for a further 12 months.
Rumour mill is we're after this guy, I presume by maybe offering him longer than 12 months or something. Is he any good?

Apparently you had shown interest in him but obviously we’ve now activated a clause to extend his contract a year. Whether that is just so you have to pay us to sign him I don’t know. From his Instagram sounds like he has every intention of being at Vale next year though and he does run an academy with our captain Tom Conlon on the side.

Obviously an offer we/him can’t refuse is always possible. Very good defender though not the most technically gifted so want him in the middle of a back three or playing in a back four.

What do you reckon we need, Firthy? I'd say we definitely need a RB, CB, CM and another striker. Hopwfully Vernam and Watt sign. Think we could do better than Paudie.

RB, CB, LB, CM and another striker.

RB: Hendrie is adequate back-up, but Threkeld is a walking liability.

CB: I can see Paudie signing. In fact, I can see all three signing. I think the club are purposely delaying the announcement to push ST sales right up to deadline. Thankfully, we haven’t got too much longer to wait. We still need another CB even if Paudie agrees to stay IMO.

LB: Again, Ridehalgh adequate back up, but we can’t expect to have promotion credentials and have Ridehalgh and Foulds at LB. Rumours indicate that Ridehalgh fancies a move back over to Tranmere. Would love to see Greg Leigh return.

CM: I think Watt stays. No idea what to expect from the new boy East, but we possibly might need another CM in addition to Watt. Depends how Gilliead fits into the new CM role.

ST: Again, I think Vernam stays. Although we’ve primarily used him on the wing, he offers something different to what we currently have in that final third. Keeping him is key.

Lewis

?? - Paudie - Platt - ??

Gilliead - Watt

Eisa - Walker - Vernam

Cook/Angol/Young/Harrett

Interesting few weeks ahead.

As it stands for us, 10 on the books for next season

GK Ben Killip

RB Jamie Sterry, Reagan Ogle

LB David Ferguson

DC Neill Byrne

MC Nicky Featherstone, Tom Crawford

CF Omar Bogle, Marcus Carver, Joe Grey.

Heard that Liddle might be off to York, Odusina, Molyneux you would be shocked if they are still here. No word from Mark Shelton.

Looking at a minimum of 8 or 9 signings. I'd be looking at a keeper, possibly 2 or 3 centre halves, 2 CM, 1 CF and 2 wingers or 2 CF and one winger depending on what Hartley Paul likes to play.

I really hope they do sign on again, especially Vernam. I like Ridehalgh but he's very replaceable, isn't he? I'd definitely go for Leigh if he wanted to come here. I rated him when he was here, but obviously he was never going to displace Meredith.

Threlkeld? Bit harsh on walking liabilities to be honest haha. Genuinely the worst right back we've ever had.

Really hoping we manage of one of Molyneux or Odusina, I'd resigned myself to losing Sterry last year and he signed on so there's hope yet.

The rest I really hope they leave, Liddle is past it I'm sorry to say, Shelton has one good game every 5 or 6 and Jordan Cook I still can't believe was offered new terms, even if they were reduced.

Agree with your breakdown though, I feel like we need a keeper to push Killip this season, not a youth loan happy to sit on the bench, a CB with pace as a minimum to compliment Byrne and a pair of Molyneux's either side of Bogle, be interesting to see if we try for Roberts at Notts County after apparent interest in January.

We should hopefully see some player movement this week assuming Pete Wild only went on a 1 week holiday and not 2 weeks (he was away last week).
I'm expecting a couple of Halifax players to sign for us - Niall Maher being the obvious one we need to sign.
possibly Kyle Ferguson who was at Altrincham too - but got some competition from other EFL 2 teams there.

Well first one's out the door, Gary Liddle is off down the pyramid somewhere.

I think offering crock boy Cook another contract sealed Lee’s fate, idiotic decision.
Liddle been a good servent, but was poor the last few months & we need better.
It‘ll interesting to see who we bring in,wether Hartley has a decent knowledge of English players or it’s our Harry Potter look a like recruitment guy.

Thoughts on the latest couple of additions, Firthy?

I've got a feeling we'll announce the departure of Watt followed fairly quickly with the Smallwood signing. Fingers crossed.

Chapman, in particular, appears to be a very good addition.

I’ve never heard of the latest signing. Although, he does come highly rated.

Listen, Smallwood is the key signing. He’s the player every City fan wants. If we secure his services, we mean business - that simple.

It’s hard not to get too carried away, but everything and everyone associated to the club just screams positivity at the minute - refreshing.

Can see 3/4 players leaving, Watt included.

GK: Harry Lewis

RB: Luke Hendrie
CB: Matty Platt
CB: Romoney Critchlow
LB: Liam Ridehalgh

CM: Ritchie Smallwood
CM: Yann Songo’o/Emmanuel Osadebe

RW: Abu Eisa
CAM: Jamie Walker
LW: Harry Chapman

CF: Cook/Angol/Harratt

Colin Doyle
Alex Gilliead
Levi Sutton
Matty Foulds
Ryan East
Jake Young

Very good attacking options, but still need another CB. A Jordan Willis/Timi Odusina type would be ideal.

That midfield is ridiculous for this league, though.

rumour has it on our forum that Ollie Banks has been told he can try to find another club if he wants - he clearly wasn't in Brown's plans - but i'm not sure what will happen when whoever the new guy comes in starts. Banks and Rooney both in midfield just doesn't seam to work. I can see several teams in D2 and NL being interested if he does want to leave.
well this one from 14th May actually seems to have been true.

Our update list is;-

Connor Brown
Patrick Brough
Mark Ellis
Paul Farman
Josh Gordon
Robbie Gotts
Joe Grayson
Ramao Hutton
Josh Kay
Luke James
John Rooney (2 Years)
Tom White (2 Years)
Jordan Stevens
Jason Taylor (player/coach)
Josh Lillis (player/coach)
Niall Canavan (2 years)
Billy Waters (2 years)
Tyrell Warren (2 years)
Sam Foley (1 year)
Solomon Nwabuokei (2 years)

James Jones and Scott Moloney (young keeper) have been offered new deals, but nothing has been heard yet - it wouldn't be a surprise if Jones went back to Altrincham who are going full-time i think.

I still expect Mark Ellis to leave at some point, Possibly Jordan Stevens too (if Cooper gets a managers job anywhere soon) and maybe even Luke James or Josh Gordon.

Jason Taylor and Josh Lillis i'd expect to be coaches only this season.

We still need a CB (2 if James Jones leaves) and a target man centre forward and maybe a maybe a young very quick forward (probably on loan from either Man City, Blackburn* or Sheff United) and possibly a left back - young Sheff United player Boyes who was at Solihull last season would be good, but Grimsby amongst others also want him - we've had a few decent loanees from them in recent years though including Rhys Norrington-Davies who should be in the Wales squad for the World Cup.
*Possibly Jack Vale who Pete Wild had on loan at Halifax last season and I think we had on loan 2 years ago - only for Covid to stop the season before he played.

That Bradford squad is shaping up well. How was Gillead last season?

Pretty shit most of the time, but he played in more a central midfield role as a number 8 under Hughes towards the end and I thought he did well. Terrible when on the wing though.
Yeah I noticed he was down as more of a midfielder above in one of the lineups, which is what drew my attention to him.

Another couple of decent additions and I think we should be going for the top three. Providing we get a little lucky with injuries; Really hope Eisa and Angol play more than they did last season.

Gilliead: He travels with the ball really well, has great control, and does a lot defensively. Definitely not a winger as Wilsden said. I think he's a useful squad player at best. Not sure where he fits in now.
