Mark Howard scooped most of our player of the season awards last night, but he’s the first to confirm that he’s been released.

Surprising decision. He’s the best goalkeeper we’ve had for a while, but I trust Paul Simpson 100%, so if he feels he can get better then fair enough.

Is Toure the lad who tore us a new one at VP last season? (although thankfully couldnt finish or we'd have got a battering).
Yes. Started really brightly last season but has barely featured this season through a mixture of injuries and missing being in Paris.

I’d expect he’ll go back to France.

Ultimately I don't think Toure was happy here (in the UK, not Carlisle specifically) Simmo did give him a few games towards the end of the season to see what he was made of and on his day he looks a very good player.

Hugely surprised to see Howard released. Norman going into his third season in a row with hopes of being #1

Not too surprised at an offer being made for Dickenson, Simmo seems to like him and given the amount of times he's played out of position and that he does have the odd really good game, it isn't entirely true to say that he's a bad player.

Gime continuing the 'Toure Cycle' I see, starts off shit hot, then gives up halfway through a season and everyone can't wait to see the back of him.

Our 7 under contract are:

Max Ehmer
David Tutonda
Stuart O'Keefe
Olly Lee
Alex MacDonald
Ben Reeves
Henry Woods

Some good experience in there, plus Olly Lee who is an absolute waste of time. A League Two midfield containing O'Keefe, Reeves and a fit again MacDonald is a decent starting point.

New deals offered to:
Jack Tucker
Robbie McKenzie
Bailey Akehurst
Josh Chambers

Tucker probably won't sign, but by offering the contract we're guaranteeing some sort of money for him when he chooses someone else. McKenzie is excellent so that's a no brainer, and the other two are promising kids.

Released:
Mustapha Carayol
Aaron Chapman
Ryan Jackson
Harvey Lintott
Danny Lloyd
Christian Maghoma
Vadaine Oliver
Gerald Sithole
Ben Thompson

From all that, it's a huge shame that Olly Lee is contracted and Ben Thompson isn't. Otherwise, no huge shocks although I probably would've offered Chapman another deal as a back up keeper.

Just to add Neil Harris has said he wants to shift some of those 7 out before the new season starts.

He seems to rate O'Keefe, and Ehmer played every game under him I think. MacDonald he won't have seen, and Reeves played when he was fit, so I think it's possibly Tutonda and Lee in the running to be moved on.

I thought Ehmer was only signed on a year contract due to the embargo, but your website says he is under contract for next season?
There were rumours we were looking at Danny Lloyd in Jan and he is being released - decent for L1?

I think he was signed just before the embargo, so apparently on a 2 year. Same with Tutonda.

Danny Lloyd is pretty average. Runs hard and fans will like him, but he's not technically great.

With us for two seasons in the end. A few eyebrows were raised when Beech extended his contract last summer as he was already a fringe player by then, spent part of this season on loan at Aldershot.

I would love to take Jack Payne back. Very good for this level
Yes he is good but I think he lacks heart when the going gets tough. A teenager also from Hudders and as big as him showed him what heart is in our relegation season.

Rochdale AFC can now confirm our retained/released list following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.

Of those players out of contract, the club will offer new deals to Eoghan O’Connell, Max Clark, Stephen Dooley and Corey O’Keeffe.

Jim McNulty has signed a one-year extension to his player-coach contract.

Players out of contract and leaving the club this summer are Joel Coleman, Matty Done, Joe Dunne, Jay Lynch, Alex Newby* and Brad Wade.

Loanees Josh Andrews, George Broadbent, Danny Cashman, Jeriel Dorsett, Paul Downing and Jake Eastwood have all now returned to their parent clubs.

All other players remain under contract.

From the Youth Team, Jordan Scanlon has been offered his first professional contract, whilst negotiations continue with fellow second-year scholar Peter Thomas regarding professional terms.

Ethan Brierley and Brad Kelly, who signed professional contracts last summer, remain under contract. All other second-year scholars will depart the club.

*wonder if we'll look at Alex again.

Of those released, it's a pity Jack Young never got more of a chance to prove himself under Edwards, as as showed promise. What little I saw of Opi Edwards was positive, too. And Whitehouse's injury put paid to his contribution for the whole of 2021/22.

Otherwise, of those retained, Bunker is still in development, but there's no superfluity there, and ideally all those with "talks ongoing" would stay.

Otherwise these lists seem about right....

Talks ongoing
Kane Wilson
Dan Sweeney
Ebou Adams
Nicky Cadden
Sadou Diallo

Under contract
Luke McGee
Dom Bernard
Baily Cargill
Ben Stevenson
Matty Stevens
Jamille Matt
Jordan Moore-Taylor
Regan Hendry
Udoka Godwin-Malife
Lewis Thomas
Harvey Bunker
Josh March

Released
Taylor Allen
Jack Evans
Opi Edwards
Jake Young
Elliott Whitehouse
Vaughn Covil
Luke Hallett
Loans Ended
Jack Aitchison
Kasey McAteer

Jay Lynch was highly thought of at one point wasn't he? Gone down the swanny I take it.

Grimsby, got a six-match suspension at the end of his time there for abusing another player as a "pikey", although he said he'd no knowledge of any ethnic connotations of the word.

Very sharp on the pitch.

That Jake Young fits the sort of profile of a striker we'd probably try and sign. 20/21 years old with potential and experience of getting promotion as an impact sub.

How much would we have to offer Ebou Adams and Kane Wilson? I assume they will be wanting more than 1.5k a week right?

From what I’ve heard Ebou will leave, most likely Wilson and Cadden too. Can’t blame them, lots of bigger clubs are interested.

Sweeney will stay I reckon, Diallo too although surprised he’s been offered a deal tbh. Didn’t get much of a look in at league 2 level, never mind stepping up a division. Didn’t realise March was under contract, can’t fault his attitude or work rate and he’s a top lad but not sure he’s up to league 1 level. Wouldn’t shock me if he leaves.

Both are talking to Championship clubs apparently. Adams and his agent were given a tour of Blackpool’s facilities a couple of weeks back.

So if you want to try and compete for them good luck.

We have announced our released and retained list.

Players leaving the club upon the expiry of their contracts: Rory Watson, Tom Collins, Harry Jessop, Lewis Thompson, Aaron Jarvis, Tom Pugh, Kenan Dünnwald-Turan, Harry Baker, Anthony Grant.

Options have been exercised on the contracts of: Cameron Wilson, Dan Gallimore.

Players remaining under contract: Ross Millen, Mason O'Malley, George Taft, Alfie Beestin, Joe Nuttall, Jordan Hallam, Tyrone O'Neill, Liam Feeney, Alex Perry, Owen Foster, Jack Moore-Billam, Harry Lewis, Ethan Young.

Contract offers made to: Jai Rowe, Finley Shrimpton.

Discussions ongoing: Harry Bunn.

Loan players returning to their parent club: Ryan Delaney, Rekeil Pyke, Tyrese Sinclair, Hayden Hackney, Sam Burns, Luke Matheson.

Only Rory Watson and potentially Anthony Grant will get league clubs out of our released players I would assume, the rest will probably go lower than National League.

Assume we will still be shifting some of under contract players as well. Ross Millen and Alex Perry haven't played for months, Taft hasn't played now for a number of weeks either. Feeney is dog shit, Joe Nuttall wouldn't score in sunday league and Tyrone O'Neill is the worst footballer I have ever seen.

Grimsby... think he had some real eye-catching performances, and got a lot of assists IIRC before FGR snapped him up, sure to attract interest in this division
And then at us beforehand. Wonder where Whitehouse will end up? Always felt he was a right grafter! Has he been injured?

He's been out for the whole season unfortunately - a serious knee injury incured during a game late the previous season.

I'd happily have Newby here. Local lad and has always looked a tidy enough player for Rochdale.

Better in L1 than L2, curiously. Started 2021/22 well, but lost his first team place and ended up behind Grant and Odoh for a wide midfield/forward spot - both of whom are a few years younger and contracted for 22/23.
