Were beating Vale 1-0, made 11 changes and now we're losing 2-1. Moniz Out.

A Luton XI (mix of yoof, transfer listed players and trialists) beat Kettering Town 2-1 tonight. Omar Rowe (ex-Southampton), Courtney Cameron (ex-Villa/Torquay), Tinashe Abrahams (ex-Barnet I think?) and the aforementioned Nortey Nortei were the trialists apparently. Not sure if any are seriously being considered.

Lost 2-1 to Vale, were winning through Stead, made ten changes and conceded twice in five minutes. Still a bit of concern about our defence, particularly centre back.

I think Abrahams was our young player who went on loan to Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

Lost 3-2 at home to a strong Ipswich team. Corr and Berry with the goals. Excellent second half and could have nicked a draw. I am growing in confidence with how we are shaping up.

How did you set up formation/personnel wise? It's going to be interesting to see who your first choice XI is come August, plenty of options and versatility in your midfield.

4-5-1 when defending but 4-3-3 when attacking. We have the players to play that way this season. We are attacking on the break with pace and it will cause so many team problems. Morrisey and Berry in the middle of the park have been class against a strong Ipswich and Norwich side with Carr, Newton and Slew causing problems with their pace on the break. Corr is vital to the way we play and I can see him getting 20+ goals this season. Really pleased with tonight.

We beat Coventry 2-1 tonight thanks to goals from Conor Chaplin and trialist Gareth Evans. George Thomas scored a beauty for them in the second half but we generally deserved to win.

Good bit of northern hoofball and thuggery - showing these "professionals" how its done.

Are Hartlepool fans concerned after being humped 4-0 by Scunthorpe at home tonight?

Suppose it's only a pre season game, so you can't really read much into it, but it did surprise me when I saw the scoreline.

Tbf Scunthorpe have some good players now, they should have a decent season and a good chance for a P/O spot.

Mansfield 1-1 MK Dons. What looks to be our starting 11 against a full strength dons team. We played some really good passing attacking football and the back 4 were excellent against some very good players. Nathan Thomas goal was lovely! Think we've got a good player there. Compared to last seasons long ball team things are looking a lot better!

As mentioned, we lost 2-0 to Reading tonight, but it was a scoreline that flattered them massively.

We were very good in the first half and had them pinned back for the majority of it, but then as is so often the case when you fail to take your chances, you're punished from out of nowhere. They got one before half-time and got a second in the second period after a huge number of subs for both sides. They brought on quality and were much more threatening in the second period, whereas we lost our way somewhat.

I'm optimistic after the way we played tonight, though. 8th August is edging ever closer!

We play them in a week or so, so that would be a good yard stick.
We also have the delights of Grim sby

The biggest positive out of our pre-season so far is Nathan Thomas. Looks a good signing & could be a big player for us this season.

Drew 0-0 with Utera and then beat Rotena 2-1, both games in Seville. Millwall come to Broadhall Way on Saturday, with an under 18's friendly against Oxford Utd kicking off at 11am. Be rude not too really.

I also was pleased with most of what last night showed - although Ipswich were very good at pressing and won the midfield, we had more than glimpses of the skills and ability to play through the midfield against lesser teams. Equally important, once Dumbuya (trialist) and Simpson were replaced with the pace and ambition (ego?) of Slew and Carr, we once again showed a threat by bypassing midfield.

My main concerns (which I may have to live with) remain at keeper and left back.

Duke (released by Northampton) only came in a few hours before the game. He did no better than OK and I'm hoping that we have better alternatives to consider. It looks like Dunn could be out for much of the season and we may even be in competition with Luton for a starting keeper.

Greg Taylor was better (especially when the threat was from the opposite wing) but still not good enough down his own flank, when he took over from Dunk at left back. Omosuzi is solid at right back, could cover left back (in the Money mould of right footed leftbacks) and looks like he can play on the right of a back 3 but he's no wingback. His response when being pulled about by the 2 Ipswich oompalumpas (Tabb and Maitland-Niles were pretty impressive), with limited support from Newton, was much enjoyed by most of the Habbin. However, apologies to Tractor Boy fans and I'm pleased that no serious injury resulted. All seemed friendly at the close and I suspect even Mick McCarthy enjoyed one of the tackles. I think that Omo may become a Habbin favourite but we need a better nickname and song.
