It's a full scale training game .... Friendlies are useful and crucial for fitness , I just don't think they warrant an admission charge , or at the most a couple of quid just to cover clean up costs etc
1, Full scale training games can be arranged in house
2, Fitness is the players responsibility, and for the clubs to monitor.
3, Entry Charges, I do notice that sometimes they are a way of "looking after" a team from a lower league, I know AFC Wimbledon do or have done this for Kingstonian. The home club have to try to recoup at least the expenses of hosting the match so yes a charge is a necessary evil, but like you say make it reasonable.
5, got to say I'm not big fan of Hartlepool, I finally got to see AFC Wimbledon last season, one of them was against Hartlepool, you can guess the rest.

I really cant see why teams from level 4 would want to play someone from level 6 or 7, other than fitness, which the club should have sorted anyway, what is the point. You may as well have a 90 min game in house 11 v 11.

Billingham allow us to play reserve games on their pitch (as its in great nick), so as part of the deal we agree to play them in a pre-season friendly each year to help them get some money from gates I presume.

If all pre-season games were in house, none of them would have a proper tackle in them and players would be playing against players they know inside out. Surely playing against an unknown has its benefits. It's the closest you get to simulating a real match.

You are right, but some of the miss matches, the clubs are not going to get much out of either.

You can add the 5-3 win versus Undy in our first friendly if you like. They had to move the fixture because Terry Butcher didn't like the abundance of sink holes and dog poo on their pitch. That's the sort of attention to detail I like. Away to BSS Bath City tonight.

Play our first friendly tonight. Away to little old Elburton Villa on the outskirts of Plymouth. Won 3-0 there two years ago, expecting at least 5 goals tonight.

St. Albans away for us tonight. Not a great fan of friendlies usually, but this one is top of my list of friendly games to get to. Nice easy trip, a few beers in the pub before the game, and then a stroll through Clarence Park to the ground.

Never been before but will be there tonight.

Seriously hope to see Clifford in the squad.

Any of you sending u21 squads about tonight? I won £90 last week backing Carlton to beat Mansfield at 8/1 and £60 last night after backing Retford.

York were meant to be at Darlington 1883, I suspect it would have been a York City XI as we have Leeds tomorrow night. Postponed until the 27th though.

Hartlepool have an XI at Harrogate Railway, ought to be a decent laugh for anyone going. PS, the nearest railway station is Starbeck, NOT Harrogate.

It would be great to see him, but I don't expect to.

Still not sure why we signed Batt before giving him a contract, and didn't wait to see if we moved KMB on to free up some money to then give Batt a deal.

Oxford drew 0-0 with Weiner Neustadt in Austria earlier.

Great support, with an estimated 200 Yellows making the journey!

We're drawing 1-1 with Boreham Wood. CMS just scored his first (and possibly only/last) goal in a Luton shirt to equalise.

We're currently losing to Basingstoke.

Ho hum, it's all about fitness, innit?

Edit - Lyle Taylor scores on his debut. 1-1

Beat Elburton 4-2. Brunt x2 (1 pen), Jervis and Nelson. Bittner in goal rather than McCormick. No Reid, Cox, Smalley or McCormick.

Taylor again. 1-2

Edit - Hat trick. He'd better do as well during the season.

We've just beat Southern Premier side Cirencester 7-0.

A hat-trick apiece from trialist Billy Bodin (who is making a good impression thus far) and young striker Jamie Lucas, as well as a strike from youth player Ryan Broom. A successful night, I'd say! Mangotsfield up next tomorrow night.

Won 3-2 against stalbans. Shaun Batt played 30 min and scored. Didn't go but it sounds like our kids came on and did the business again which must be causing Allen a few headaches.

A not so friendly friendly played with purpose. They start their season on Friday and left no holds barred.

Don't know how many times this season I will say this but a 'homer' referee didn't help.

None the less - still unbeaten in Europe for 40 years.

This Paddy McCourt fella aint half bad. He took the piss in the first half at times tonight, but its hard to gain much knowledge against Boring Wood, despite them giving us a physical test.

Craig Mackail-Smith's goal was well taken.

The kids were the stand out part of the night for me. Trying to reign it in a bit on Shomotun, but, he looks like an absolute diamond from our youth team. Not sure what Brentford didn't see in him.
