By god, we might actually score goals this season. Barton looked terrible at the back mind, and we're desperate for a RB.

We're looking good I'd say, better than last time.

Barton looked like a player clearly filling in at CB and highlights the need for a back up CB.

He will be in the holding midfield role come the start of the season where he is much more comfortable.
Bobby Grant looks like a completely new player!

Lost 4-0 to Charlton half youth/first team last night, I never went but understand it was dreadful. Lots of improvement required in the next two weeks.

If only someone could create some sort of Pre Season League table, you know, tally up the games played, wins, losses and draws, maybe even calculate goal difference, we'd all know where we stood then?*

*Please no one do this

Our first team players have only really had 45 minutes of game time so far this pre season despite the fact we’ve played 3 games as they’ve involved our development/youth team players mainly.

First home pre season game this Saturday vs Rotherham United so expecting our first teamers to get a lot more match action from that point onwards.

That sounds a good idea, maybe I’ll mention it on the League 2 forum and we can do it too. :bg:

Think we’ve won 4 and drawn 1, but have only played teams from lower leagues

So far we have beaten Berkhamsted(about 5 levels below us) drew with Wycombe Trialists, and beat Crystal Palace Youth/Reserves. Our 1 new signing(Goalkeeper) along with the other 24+ players from last season(8 released & 2 left) are hardly going to set the League alight.

Continued our surprisingly efficient pre-season by beating Walsall. Two goals from Boldewijn who looks miles fitter and sharper than he did at any point last season. If he’s still here come the start of the season he could be really dangerous.

Lost 2-1 at home to Rotherham today.

Absolutely nothing in the game tbh with you, pretty even contest with Rotherham creating more chances as you’d expect from a League 1 side.

Performance wise, Will Evans absolute colossal at the back and topped a solid performance off with a finish Scotty Boden would have been proud of. On the other side of the scale, can’t say I was impressed with Anthony Gerrard. Looked overweight, and was at fault for both goals... hopefully just a bit of pre-season rust!!!

Mandeville looks a good player at this level too so that was promising. I’d also say that Coddington is likely to be our number 1 in the first game against Dover as he looked very good second half when he came on, came for crosses, made some good saves and kept a clean sheet..

Sheff United up next on Tuesday night

Got my first viewing of Jake Cassidy today. It's his first pre-season game but looks so sluggish and reluctant to get involved. Completely unsuitable for a lone striker role.

Smashed Curzon Ashton 2-0 while playing a load of kids. We're gonna smash the league this year.

Drew 1-1 with Derby County Under 23s.

We are looking very solid at the back. Think we keep the goals against column down this season. Not exactly sure where the goals are going to come through as we dont look potent. However plenty of time yet.

2 pre season games to go thank god.

lost 3-0 at home to Blackpool in the Ian Evatt fairwell (as a player) match. Never a 3-0 game and quite enjoyed the way the team played. Quigley, Angus, Waddington and Brough were all missing with minor knocks.

Beat Blackpool 2-1 (the weaker half that didnt play at Barra I suspect) should have had more but useful workout and no injuries and a couple of trailists did OK.

I can’t think of anything he’s suitable for, he is that wank.

This time last year it’s funny how everything seemed set fair with some apparently very good signings bolted on to a team who had just missed out in the playoffs. And yet we were terrible in the pre season friendlies, games I had always previously dismissed yet this time were very good guides about how the season would go.

Who knows this time around, but putting the off field stuff to one side for a minute, we have got some very good players for this league. If the takeover goes through* and we can add in the important areas, I still rate our chances of having a good season.

*Very big fucking if.

Coddington has had fairly poor write ups on loan for the last few years but when he came to us a couple of seasons back he looked very impressive for his age. He's definitely got ability. You could have a top keeper on your hands, he's far better than Jalal who is always prone to a clanger or two.

Beat Sheffield United U23 4-2 today. Jason Kennedy who we got from Carlisle is tearing it up, has been all summer, looks like a really good addition. Apparently we are looking really sharp going forward but conceding sloppy goals.

Like I’ve said so many times, this is a Craig Hignett side all over.

Midfield three of Mafuta, Noble, Kennedy it's looking like, gonna do some damage in this league, played some really good stuff against a lightweight looking U23 side, glad I went just to see Luke Williams play and score.

1-1 with Southend Yesterday, much better performance but against less inferior opposition to Charlton. Could have won but creating a few chances is good. Maidstone next up.

Then there's Holohan, Featherstone, Donaldson who won't get a game. The amount of midfielders we have is bizarre, how are they gonna get a game? I can't get why we have so many.

What a lovely goal that was from Williams as well like, no way he should be at this level so keep him fit and most of the others fire and we really could tear a load of sides here a new one. But supporting Pools tells you to never be optimistic. So I'll stop there. Defensively we both know is where it'll go wrong.
