We're playing Benfica(!) side in Portugal while we're there along with another English Club (Middlesbrough and Hull are where we are at the same time apparently).

One of those two games clashes with our Lincs Cup tie with Gainsborough so we'll probably get fined for not putting our strongest team out because it's classed as a competitive fixture. U18 side to that playing that one I imagine.

Interesting. Might have a drive down/round the corner.

What the f?
James Phillips is always referring to players as being 'Rolls Royces', perhaps this is a team made entirely out of them.

From what I could gather, he uses it to mean a player who's quality of ball control seems at odds with their physicality and demeanor. TAH was a classic one.

That could be a good thread. Describe your squad using cars.

Or maybe not

So like Michael Owen would be a TVR, looks good, performs great, breaks down a lot.
Bayo would be a Humm-Vee

Can't think of any for our squad though. Maybe Nicky Adams as a souped up Vauxhall Corsa doing doughnuts on a supermarket car park.

We played Benfica at St Georgies Park behind closed doors annoyingly last year. Well say that they were 5-0 up at half time so probably worth not watching!

Yep, you and Milwall as well. Someone reckons our other game is against the latter.

Our first pre season friendly tonight away at Sheffield FC. Looking forward to this one as Caldwells said it will be two completely different sides giving everyone 45 minutes!

Hoping to see Tommy Lee get 45 tonight as he missed the whole of last season with a shoulder injury he sustained on the LAST game of the previous season:ffs::ffs:! Get him back to his fit and fighting best and we've got the best goalkeeper in the league again!

What the f?

They have good facilities so we seem to play them every year and it's normally the first pre season game. Incidentally the same goes for my local side Long Eaton United who also play them around that date.

Steady 4-1 victory away at Sheffield FC tonight in our first pre season game. Everyone involved apart from Chris O'Grady and Tommy Lee.

You other League 2 supporters might as well now accept that you are all playing for second place this season, we have proved our title credentials tonight by coming back from 2-0 down after 8 minutes to beat the MIGHT of Cleethorpes Town 4-2, they might as well just give us the trophy now.* :animatedf:

*Anyone in May 2018 thinking about quoting this post to take the piss after we have finished 14th please take note that I am taking the piss, cheers.

There not a bad side though, strolled to the NCEL Prem title and got promotion to step 4. That win against them isnt a bad start.

For anyone interested skip to 4:20 to watch Jamey Osborne score from inside his own half:

We're playing Hitchin tonight, become something of a tradition for me and the old man to go to the PSF at Hitchin and have a few drinks in the sunshine. Nice little ground at Top Field as well.

Looking forward to making sweeping assumptions about how our season will pan out afterwards.

Entire squad is youth team and trialists :bl:

Wouldn't care normally but it was advertised as a first team game and they are charging a tenner a ticket, I'd have been seriously fucked off if I had decided to go.

Apparently Jones has just told the Luton News reporter at the game that Hylton is a doubt for the start of the season :hb:

Obviously we've got quality without him but still annoying as that means no pre-season for him which means a long road back to match fitness probably.

Well that was a bit of a waste of time to be honest. £10 to watch what was a few 15 and 16 year olds at the end! Only four professionals in the entire squad.

Jones intimated that he may well sign the keeper. If I'm honest, if he's good enough for us, I'm going to dig out my old GK gloves and try a get an LTFC contract myself next summer...

Yeah the goalkeeper was terrible, made 3 poor errors and looked in general very dodgy!

Was interesting to see some of the youngsters I guess although i don't think any really stood out, the little number 22 produced a real bit of magic late on that was pretty decent, he looked no older than 12 though!

Yeah that's a bit of a concern really. Really hope he isn't missing all the preseason and is just a week or so behind the rest of the squad rather than not doing any training. If he misses pre season entirely could take him months to get going again if he does at all.

How did Musonda and Famewo look? Judging by the score-line I'm guessing not ready for first team duties, albeit early in pre-season?
