Dale 2 - 2 Rotherham

Two goals from Jake Beesley for us. Two late goals for Rotherham against a makeshift defence once all the substitutions had been made.

According to our forum, an unknown Trialist right back had a decent game.

We also had a Trialist goalie come on as sub, who apparently looked like Dan Bentley of Bristol City, but probably wasn't as DB was their player of the season in 20/21 and in their squad for an afternoon friendly v Portsmouth...

Lee Angol impressing again tonight at Guiseley apparently. 2 goals for him tonight

Classic Angol. Think he banged in 6 or 7 for us last pre-season. One goal, a sending off and a hamstring tear in his first 10 League games incoming.

Finished one nowt to Spennymoor, DC seemingly not a happy bunny.
Just listened to his intervie, sounds like a few triallists won’t be coming back.
We sounded awful first half, but seems like Miller has put together a good Spenny team.
Chandy & Boyd we’re raving about one of the midfielders.

apparently we lost at home to non league grimsby
Classic Hurst 1-0 away win against a tinpot club who parked the bus, glad to see we're getting in the groove nice and early. Good luck this season, hope you're ready to enjoy another obscenely expensive League 2 midtable finish.

Reading some reactions. Olomola sounded like the pick of the bunch again last night when he came on, DC said despite them being shite last night we've already agreed deals with some of them, I'd imagine Cullen and Olomola have agreed terms? Rethinking it is Stott still around?

ZFA we already know about but yet to be announced.

Lost 2-1 at home to Cardiff. Matt got our goal.
That has been the best FGR pre-season performance ever.
For the first 60 minutes [until the mass substitutions] it was all FGR.
Cardiff did not threaten our goalkeeper once during the entire 1st half and scored with their only shot on target at start of 2nd half.
Assuming the starting eleven will be same when league games commence, I expect FGR to do better than well.

Tbf Cardiff were not at full strength by any means, but yeah we were pretty good.

Definitely not our best pre-season performance ever though, seen us thrash a full strength Championship Bristol City 4-1 back in the Beesley/Fleetwood days which was by far a better performance then last night imo, but still lots of positives to take. Certainly not getting carried away though, lots of work still to be done.

I like the look of Stevenson, him, Adams and Hendry looks a quality midfield.

DC said Cullen will be out for a week or something so I presume he's signed up if he's announcing that.

Stott I wouldn't think is good enough for a L2 side based on what the Stockport fans say and he was far down the pecking order there anyway.

Doesn't fill you with confidence if our first striker signing with a past history of injuries is pulling his hammy five minutes into a game, must be planning on using Molyneux as a striker this season now he's signed on, Cullen, Molyneux, one of the Trialist forwards must likely Olomola? and a loanee striker is what I think he'll go for.

I wonder if he's happy with what we've got in defence now? We have Byrne, Liddle, Odusina all at CB, Sterry, Ferguson, wingbacks and Ogle and ZFA who can play anywhere across the back.

One more centre half needed, I'd be inclined to offer Wheater a year as back up to Liddle for the old man in the middle of the back 3 position. He wanted to join so why not? The likes of Ogle and Odusina can learn the game off him as well? Happy that ZFA has signed on, Ferguson needs the competition.

Think you're right about the forwards. Cullen, Olumola, Molyneux and a loanee. We might even only play 1 up front away against tough sides and have Holohan in a support role.

Who is he

who's that mate never heard of him he looks ok on the ball
I’d say definitely Allessani. We apparently had him training with us a couple of years ago….Product of the Crystal Palace academy, was highly rated but had a bad injury. He then went to Dulwich Hamlet and scored loads, which is when we got wind of him.

Instead of us signing him he instead went to Coventry but didn’t get a look in. I’d imagine he would be worth a year to see if he can cut it.

Those who didn’t start at Chorley last night played tonight against Kendal Town.

Finished 6-0 to Carlisle. Mellish, Feeney, Dixon, Mampala, Fishburn and Toure with the goals.

Need some bigger tests now. Blackpool on Saturday would have been one but COVID has fucked that.

What's the crack with that? No word from either club yet on it being cancelled. All I can find out is that their friendly with Rangers was cancelled due to 'a number' of COVID cases in the squad. So like, how many and are the rest of their squad COVID free then or is this an outbreak?

It's possible that they had to cancel the Rangers friendly because it was at too short notice to get results back for the entire squad but maybe now they have done.

Pre-season is all very promising so far. 5 games played 21 scored and 0 conceded, but that's all against amateur teams who haven't been able to play competitively since winter, during a heatwave which will no doubt impact those teams who don't train regularly more than it does professional clubs.

Sutton are 3-0 up at halftime against Brighton’s under 23s in a behind closed doors game at Brighton’s training ground. David Ajiboye got the first two, Will Randall scored the third. Harry Beautyman had a penalty saved.

The game is on Brighton’s YouTube channel if you’re so inclined.

I’m simply assuming that if their rangers friendly last night was cancelled due to COVID in the Blackpool squad, the period of isolation will still apply beyond this Saturday so can’t see how it can possibly go ahead. Their wording was “a number of positive COVID cases within the squad” so they weren’t awaiting results.
And would cufc even want to risk it 2 weeks before the season start?

It would be nice if either club could confirm it though.

perhaps it was covid in the Rangers squad that caused the postponement?

Finished 6-0 to Sutton. 2nd half goals from new signing Alistair Smith, Donovan Wilson and Ben Goodliffe completed a comfortable enough performance for Sutton.

Would be... don't know about Blackpool but we never did confirm that Zanzala, Patrick, Farman or Anderton had left even after they signed for other clubs. Think if you looked at our website a few days after Zanzala and Farman signed for Barrow, they were still included among our 'current first team squad'.

It wasn’t. Definitely the Blackpool squad.
Carlisle have just tweeted the ticket details for the Blackpool friendly.

Can only assume they've either been told by Blackpool there's nothing to worry about, or they've not heard anything and decided to just assume it's going ahead.

Yeah saw that. Would seem it’s going ahead which is great as we can get back in BP and it’s an important up in levels for our players to face.

Yep, we certainly could do with facing someone who might make us defend a little bit (Chorley seem to have been far and away the best team we've faced so far).

On the other hand, if we're going to return to full stadiums then there needs to be a bit more transparency, I get that it's only a friendly but clubs need to do a bit better in terms of reassuring fans that a match is/isn't going on, that tests have/haven't been done and that the game is/isn't safe in terms of transmission. Stuff like this won't encourage fans to return, and doesn't fill me with confidence that we can avoid an outbreak within our own squad... again.

Unfair to blame the clubs as right now they're left being the ones picking up the bill if they do have to cancel and stuff, it's similar to the growing issue with track and trace where people are expected to behave honestly and selflessly but with no reassurances that a positive test could mean missing a week or two of pay.

A really enjoyable game. The shift in playing styles from BBM to Stockdale is refreshing. We look reminiscent of a Keith Hill side from his first spell. Passing with intent rather than just for the sake of keeping the ball. I know it’s only pre season but I was impressed. Get a few decent signings and keep the off the field crap at bay and this could be a good season. Can’t be much worse than the last couple!
