Lost 1 - 2 to the Blades.

Hardly got a kick first half as Hamer and O'Hare ran the show but equalised straight after the break and played a lot better in the second half when Hamer was gone.

We lost in the last couple of minutes when Philips failed to hold onto a routine shot and one of their subs followed up and scored a simple chance.

JCH got 45 minutes but both he and Nombe were subbed at half time having made no impression on the Blades backline.

Trialist Jack Holmes made the equalizer and earned himself a years contract with a 12 month option, well done lad.

Good run out but I have no clue how well we will do this season.

In an "experimental" game of two halves of 60 mins, with different XIs in both halves, we beat Pompey 4-0.

I know results mean fuck all in friendlies, especially with random combinations of players, some of whom will be lacking match fitness to boot, but not a bad scoreline.

A really poor 2-0 loss against Wimbledon today with mostly first team players has killed a lot of excitement for the season. Don’t wanna read too much into it but we played so poorly and a lot of last seasons issues were evident.

I was shocked by how good of a team Palace put out against us. I honestly thought it would be mostly kids as lots of their team were away at tournements...you could say Anderson was still away.

We do like to pass the ball around the back line but it was much too much sideways and backwards stuff inviting a press and Palace were damn good at it. Premier as opposed to league 2 what we were used to watching. We looked like we got a kick up the arse at half time and actually started to cause them some issues. Which was good, but it was comical defending all game.

Quitirna looked decent, caused Clyne lots of issues all game. Anderson (our one) showed some decent movement and Faal came on for 15 minutes and did OK. We are definitely short up front.though.

We beat Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1 in the final game of our North American tour. The maddest thing was the attendance of over 34,000.

Back to reality next week with our last pre season game versus glamorous Fleetwood.

Another mixture of youngsters and first team beat Ebbsfleet 3-1.

We play WBA and Colchester next weekend which should give us a better indication of where we are at.

I haven’t been at either of our games this weekend but from what I’ve told we are deploying a more high press/possession type style. We were heavily defensively with a low block counter type the last two seasons so it’s interesting to see how we transition from that.

Brentford “B” in a behind closed door friendly at 1pm Tuesday, followed by Torquay away at half 7 on the same day should be interesting.
Torquay and their 43 fans will be fired up for their cup final on Tuesday night

Spurs U21 on Tuesday followed by a backup El Chavico vs. non league minnows Dagenham & Redbridge. I assume Sarfend were too scared to play an actual El Chavico.

Stoke at home tonight, just over a week to go before the start of the season. Only one more pre season game to go and the team is nowhere near where it should be.

Baxter
Jones
Firmino
Forrester
Williams
Dempsey
Gomes
Collins

Eight not involved at all plus Charles getting his first mins from the bench, Evatt cannot have a clue who he will start against Orient
We need three or four back asap plus we need to get some of these targets across the line

4-1.
Our "50 % first team" line up went one down in the first minute but soon bounced back
(2 from Cox and 2 from Borges)
29o temperature too - who needs those expensive tours to the Med when we've got the "Costa Del Devon"!

All Academy lads. Two nil down and sounds like a real men v boys game.

We picked up some interesting new scholars for the academy recently from Prem academies so will be good to see how they get on.

He surely can’t keep getting jobs if he fucks this one up.

Meanwhile we are 1-1 v Watford. Apparently it’s their full first XI, although their fans seem to think they’re shit, so “full first XI” may not mean much.

Watford scored first…we only equalised when one of their players had gone down injured but the ref allowed play to go on…bit controversial for a “friendly”…?

3-1 up v Watford. Again the result means nothing but at least it sounds like a competitive run-out, which is all you can hope for.

I've heard Cooper wants out. Maybe he has a brain after all he was born in the World's greatest city.

You would have thought the 3M keeper was playing for us today. For our first goal Cooper played it straight to one of our players, then kept passing it out of play for the rest of the game. Finished 2-1.

Got well beaten by Stoke 1-0. Southwood made his debut and Charles played the last half hour
Nothing else productive
Move on to our last game Saturday......See if he has brought anyone new in
Then on to Orient, hopefully no more than four who started tonight will be in that line-up

Beat Spurs U23s 2-1 with Charlie Kelman scoring twice, game was quite low key. We played well first 25mins coring twice.

Just the annual trip to Dagenham left now on Saturday.

Beat Aldershot 1-2 last night. I didn't brave the m25/a3 roadworks for a friendly.

Been told there were a couple of nice goals for us and another defensive mistake for their goal. Seems Conroy tried to nod a long ball back to the keeper but left it short.

I keep hearing that our defence is good if we can cut out the silly mistakes and the sky is blue if we could just get rid of those rain clouds.

Our up and down pre-season continued with a 2 - 2 draw at Grimsby.
Positives were that JCH got off the mark with a fine header and a penalty and Hungbo appears to be a very good signing, plus several players got much needed time on the pitch.

Downside, we again started slow and conceded early and switched off again to concede a late equaliser.

It sounded like Grimsby played the better football but we missed quite a few chances. Kite didn't boost his hopes of signing any good by missing an open goal.

We have to pick the team we are going to start with at Exeter against Doncaster in Woody's testimonial on Saturday.

From his previous time here SE teams were slow starters improving month by month as they gradually bought into his plans.

That was over 10 years ago though, when fans seemed a little bit more supportive and patient.
Judging on "fans" posts last night we have become a very impatient mardy bunch.

Steve Evans booked for arguing with the ref too.
That man could be locked in a room by himself and still find someone to argue with.

From what Paul Davis (Rotherham Advertiser) reported, it was a bad tackle on the new lad Holmes that upset him.

There was a really horrible tackle by Sheff Utd's Arblaster on Nombe on Saturday that would have been a red card all day long in a league game, he's probably upset at the thought of losing a player for a few games in a meaningless friendly.

He's definitely mellowed since his first spell but he'll never change.

Were you pleased with how Grimsby played and did anyone stand out for us?

Bit of a delayed post but we overcame a Stoke 1-0 at EP on Saturday. It was interesting to see up play such an aggressive high pressing game against Championship opposition but it was good to see how we adapt when better teams play through the press.

Yet another injury concern after Michael Mellon limped off after 17 mins....

Only goal came from Kyle Wootton who powered home a header from a Jack Diamond set piece.

Stoke should have scored at least a couple in fairness. They had the better chances throughout the game.

Team:
GK Corey Addai (Hinchliffe 46)
RB Kyle Knoyle
CB Fraser Horsfall (Sam Hughes 46)
CB Ethan Pye
LB Ibou Touray
CM Lewis Bate (Che Gardner 77)
CM Odin Bailey
CM Will Collar (Callum Camps 62)
RW Jayden Fevrier (Jid Okeke 62)
STK Michael Mellon (Kyle Wootton 17, Tayo Aderamola 62)
LW Jack Diamond (Cody Johnson 77)

Next up: Blackburn at home on Friday (2nd) followed by Carlisle away on Saturday (3rd)......

Dreadful performance from Bolton, just no excitement , their goal came form giving the ball away after they pressed whilst we continue to tap the ball around , Evatt needs to go, he should have gone 2 seasons ago, we will never get out of this division playing his football. Spent a lot of money for this level on the likes of Adebayayo and Nlundulu and they are abysmal footballers., the chickens will come to roost if we don't sack Evatt in the first month of the season but by then it could be too late.

Last chance saloon for Evatt, his team bottled it big time last year and their is very little patience in the tank watching his tedious football team.

After our 1-0 home win vs Oxford on Saturday, we could only draw 1-1 at Alfreton (step2). However our team at Alfreton included at least five who would not start at Barnsley. Interestingly the starting XI played the full 90 minutes.

It was rumoured that a behind closed door game against Derby is being played today featured players who weren’t involved last night.
