On the whole yes and results mean nothing.

But when your 2 weeks off the season and the starting 11 and more so squad don’t look comfortable or look able to play the system manager wants and manager isn’t looking at other approaches…..that is then worrying.

That Carlisle squad does not at all suit 5-3-2 but we are playing it regardless in two weeks
Agree. I think you can usually get an idea on how your team are going to play and their weak points by the time you've watched three or four friendlies.

Lost 1-0 at Eastleigh. They managed to win without having a shot on target!

We were pretty dire - bereft of any creativity.

We did that at Birmingham once, we scored with a deflected Dave Smith cross and then Danny Coyne did his usual of saving about 35 shots to preserve the lead and we left with a deserved 1-0 victory.

Scuffed shot, hit the post, rebounded in off our keeper.

Haven't been to one in over 10 years, complete waste of time and money.
Couldn’t agree more I’ve only ever been to one in my life and that was only because my Wife bought me a ticket as it was near my Birthday.
Sheffield Utd at home and it all kicked off before the game so I doubt we’ll be arranging any more friendlies against them anytime soon.

Friendlies are absolutely not a waste of time and money.

I've been to the 4 Crewe friendlies in the last few weeks I've been able to attend in person and I'll be going on Saturday. Pre-season football is great. You get to see your team play the best football you'll see all year, they usually win, you get to go to some new grounds or grounds you wouldn't normally get to visit, it's cheap to get in, the weather(sometimes) is pleasant and best of all, you go knowing the result doesn't matter.

Nothing wrong with going to watch your team play, so long as you don't get drawn into making any conclusions about what you see. Still see so many fans announcing their team is going up after a good result or singing "Paul Warne, your football is shit" after losing.

I don't usually got to home pre-season games, but did this time because the boy wanted to see the new kit.

I usually do one or two of the away ones though - visiting local non-league clubs, having a beer whilst watching the game and catching up with people I've probably not seen for a couple of months. The football is just a sideshow.

We’ve had to call our game off at Alfreton on Wednesday, rumours it’s because we can’t put a side out.
Roll on the season.

I can't believe people go to watch three or four friendlies every season.
Alfreton and Peterborough this season, just the two although we're playing two one hour games against Peterborough on Saturday.
Why not? I like football, Notts in particular. Always interested in triallists, new signings and youth players.

This.

Dont mind a random trip somewhere in pre season. We’ve not had anything remotely quirky this year disappointly. We do get to go too Scunthorpe on Friday though

Just feels like I've got better things to do than watch a training session. I give up enough Saturdays away from my family during the season....the lack of energy, pace and commitment makes them a complete non event. You need a competitive element to make sport worth watching.

Friendlies can be fun but you don't go for the actual football. You go for the social side, to see the new players, to try and work out any new systems etc.

That being said I'm not doing any this year. We've either put them at silly times where I can't attend, or I have other plans. With plenty of others in the same boat I wouldn't be surprised if there are less home fans than Portsmouth bring tonight or Plymouth on Saturday.

A big preseason ick is fans celebrating goals like a league game.

Different strokes for different folks obviously.

For me more than enough football (Notts and in general) when it's competitive. Like most uncompetitive, experimental games with a raft of changes to perfectly disturb the game and never recover just isn't a big enough draw.

Above all it counts for next to nothing. Rather spend it with the family but I guess if the weather's nice it's an option.

Goes both ways, you've got Burton fans creaming all over X on how good they were, the goals etc but whilst a decent move our lads are jogging around into the press  you can't judge anything on it, we've been doing double sessions are over loading to improve fitness so going into games absolutely battered, yet our fans are doom mongering and theirs are buzzing.

The cup celebrations did seem a bit odd as well

Will never forget that Man United performance when Shane Tudor looked like Ryan Giggs before dismantling Sheff Wed's 3-0 weeks later... we then finished second bottom!

Think you may be right. During last season a lot of our fans were saying they’d accept the dire and boring style if it got us up.

If it doesn’t get us sniffing around the POs things won’t go well.

We’ve fielded, from what I can make out, our strongest XI so far this pre-season.

I know everyone says you shouldn’t read too much into preseason, but Carlisle United fans have to be concerned.

Beaten 2-0 at Gateshead tonight, with the home side missing two penalties. Two games in a row where we’ve been outplayed by conference teams.

We look a truly terrible team. No plan, no tactics, no pace, no energy, no creativity. Lessons haven’t been learned, we’re doing the same crap things that we did last season. We still look shell shocked from the relegation and I have a bad feeling this hangover is going to last a while.

Stockport at home on Saturday is our final chance to gain some hint of confidence ahead of the season. But that won’t be easy.

Losing 2-1 to 10 man Boston. I hope the lads in the Kop saved those Maynard Out signs
