New Anti Nowhere League album coming out next month....pre-ordered mine!

Yes they went a bit "metal" at one point, but if their last 2 albums ( "Kings and Queens" and "Road to Rampton") are anything to go by I'm looking forward to this!

They have also re-recorded their first album "We are the League" with original lyrics, not the watered down version that they were forced to release following the original being seized and banned. I believe this comes out in June.

If I'm not mistaken, their debut album was only seized and banned due to one track, 'Animal', and only because of one line. Even 'Woman' which caused quite a stir back then is uncensored on the album, unlike the single release which had several completely different lines(you know which lines were changed ;)) So I think it's more of a case of a re-recording of the album by Animal and the new guys.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I would be interested to know if there are any other differences between the original pressing and the cleaned up reissue.

You may well be right Vanni. I have the original pressing on vinyl, where on "Animal" he is definitely not "Your next door neighbour"! But other than that track, I can't say I've heard tracks from the later release, so don't know if/how they may be different.

However, this is the blurb that is being used to promote the new release, which suggests that the changes are for more than just one track.

RELEASE DATE 12TH JUNE!! PRE ORDER NOW!!

Never heard before, the complete 'We are the League' album using original lyrics. This was exactly how the album was written before being confiscated and never been put together in its entirety since 1980 including the infamous 'SO WHAT'.

All other versions have been rehashed! This is ... WE ARE THE LEAGUE UN-CUT!

Also includes 2 rerecorded bonus tracks ('For you' and 'This is War')

I just realised the album in question was in fact released on cd back in 2014, unless they're releasing it on vinyl this time?

As for the original album, I've got the uncensored version too, although it's now in a bad shape with a click or a pop every 2 seconds:) I only got it some 9/10 years after it was first released so this leads me to believe that thousands did manage to get out before it was pulled. Or perhaps it was just plain luck. Btw, you said that ANL went a bit metal at one point but I'm not sure which period you're referring to. Personally I think it's The Road which has some metal influences but it's still punk afaic. The only album I can't bring myself to listen to is The Perfect Crime, but I think you know the reason why!

Oops...my bad! Yeah you're right, We Are The League Un-Cut has already been released! I heard that they were releasing 2 albums this year, and I thought this was the second of them.

For me, they seemed to be a bit more metal prior to "Kings and Queens" around the time they released the "Scum" album and were writing songs such as this

Quite "Motorhead" sounding I think. But then again, Motorhead were a kind of cross-over between metal and punk themselves.

I know exactly what you mean about "The Perfect Crime", and remember being soooo fucking annoyed when they released that, BUT if I can make myself forget that it's the Anti Nowhere League, I actually quite like the album for itself.

With the Euros coming up, thought this a good time to put this track by Peter and the test Tube Babies on here.

They actually did this for the (then) upcoming World Cup in 2006, but as we are STILL waiting for any kind of success a further 10 years down the line, it still kinda works. (The title on the video should say "Smiling through the tears")

Yep, on the cleaned up version this became "I'm your next door neighbour". Doesn't quite carry the same punch somehow! :bg:

This has appeared on youtube already.....so here you go!

Really good album IMO, my personal faves being Uncle Charlie (tribute to Charlie Harper) 12.17 The Last Cowboys 15.40, Fields of Yesterday 19.34 (a touch of Dropkick Murphies?) Walk Away 42.36(Can't decide whether this is geared towards England in the Euros?) and Aint we having fun. 46.21

Can't let this thread slip off the front page!

Sometimes I struggle to believe that Punk is now 40 years old :bl:, but somehow I find it even harder to come to terms with the fact that this album is now over 20 years old!

Best ever punk album to come out of the USA in my opinion.

It's a fucking amazing album. They'd been knocking about for years in various guises. Then they released that... fantastic. Even though my favourite Rancid song isn't off that album.

I'm still in two minds on this little caper. He has a point, but the decent thing would've been to donate the collection to charity.

Did he even burn the real stuff in the first place? :pond:

He said himself the stuff is nowhere near worth 5 mill anyway, and its a pretty punkish thing to do despite him claiming it is dead. Its a pity there weren't more around these days though, a bit of anarchy is needed me thinks.

It's the son of two millionaires burning some of his toys. It's about as punk as a sneeze.

His parents co-created the Punk genre though (to sell clothes); he's as much entitled to do that as any hardcore Punk is.

Most people's impression of punk is usually "a loud tuneless noise".

These tracks show that the music doesn't have to be loud to be powerful. The last track "Solidarity" was originally recorded by The Angelic Upstarts (I prefer this version) and I remember when it came out of feeling really proud that this had been released by a punk band.
