I remember we beat AFC Wimbledon in their first game back in the football league, live on TV. Almost felt bad, almost....

Hahaha well I'm hardly suprised, you must still be at school to not know what that means.

It's a polite way of telling you to fuck off.

Seems our manager has taken our squad to Champneys for a bit of a reset. I think we need it. Our relentless Saturday/Tuesday schedule has meant our poor form and confidence has compounded. We are in a death spiral that we can't get out of. I'm not sure it'll do much good, but anything is worth a try at this stage.

At least you havent gone to these stupid lengths to try and change your fortunes

"Bristol Rovers attempted to tap into the art of feng shui in 1999, inviting 'experts' Guy de Beaujeu and Patrick Stockhausen to the Memorial Ground in a bid to bring them luck. "The two men placed a ceramic frog above the entrance, potted plants in the dressing room and a tank of toy fish behind the goal," explained Scott Murray in the Guardian. "It didn't work – Rovers lost their next match 1-0 against Gillingham – and no wonder, as the pair were filming a hoax TV series called Gatecrasher." However, Rovers nearly had the last, er, merk, as their form picked up and they eventually missed out on the playoffs by a matter of two points. "They obviously knew a lot more than they thought because, since then, we have not stopped winning," noted a club spokesperson"

Talking of that - you could not help but be impressed with the scenes at Wimbledon when their last minute winner went in. Looked a amazing atmosphere from the video clips I’ve seen on Twitter.

Particularly enjoyed chief shithouse Harry Pell warming up by smashing the ball directly into at the plastics in the away end.

It looks like we will have a big say in who stays up.
We still have to play Fleetwood (A), Port Vale (A), Shrewsbury (H), Cheltenham (A), Cambridge (H)
Thats 5 of the current bottom 6! Also Reading (H) but they should be alright

Why oh why did we waste so much time with Michael Appleton?

Why did we employ the complete twonk in the first place?

Infuriating.

It would have been a joke if you'd have got relegated. Never even considered you as contenders to be honest.

Should have just got Barry Fry to piss on the corner flags, clearly he's been at it all afternoon today!

Think we now have to beat Oxford and/or Barnsley away to stay in touch. Taylor is probably done for the season leaving us with just Lloyd who has only scored twice all season (in the same game) and could probably use a rest, Keena who hasn't scored for nearly a year, and Nuttall who was presumably injured last night and hasn't shown anything to suggest he can score a goal, albeit with limited opportunities.

After such a great fightback under DC we now look like we did at the start of the season - hoofing it to our tiny forwards with no real gameplan. We played some decent stuff 2nd half last night when we got the ball down and pressed them as we've done for most of the season, but couldn't sustain it for more than 10-15 minutes.

With the injuries piling up and the effort that the players have all put in (and are still putting in - no question there), we were always likely to run out of steam I guess. But it's all unraveled so quickly that it's hard to come to terms with it.

I've seen this in a few places - did DC say something about him after the game because I don't recall anything from his interview. I honestly thought it looked like cramp more than anything when he went off. Keena was all ready to come on and he knew he was going off and he pulled up almost bang on time.

For what it's worth Cheltenham got in behind our defence and worried us a fair bit more than Derby, Northampton, Lincoln and even Pompey to some extent since Jones has sorted the defence out. However, your defence was all over the place - a start of the season clinical Alfie May would have had a hat trick and more last night.

One would think that Appleton might struggle to get another job at this level for now, after having failed to impress at both Blackpool and Charlton.

I'd imagine for the next step he's more likely to show up at a struggling L2 club or maybe a Nat'l League side.

I think it's the curse of managing Lincoln. All these big shiny clubs think, well, they've done great things with Lincoln, they can do the same for us. But Appleton and the Cowleys seem to have other ideas.

Charlton is a bit of a poisoned chalice in that we are going through the worst period in our history and fans struggle to accept we are an average league one club so anything less than playoffs is deemed a failure. When in reality, Charlton getting the playoffs is a really solid achievement for any manager. That being said, Appleton was incredibly stubborn and seemed to refuse to adapt to the situation, replicating what had seen him success at Oxford and Lincoln. His style didn't suit us and coupled with the fans on his back the situation just deteriorated. I think 10th-8th was a realistic finish for us this season and if we persisted with him he would have taken us down.
Appleton also sold himself to us as having a USP of developing youngsters which given our academy strength is key. Our most promising youngster, Kanu was loaned to the national league and Anderson was frozen out the team. Under Jones they have since come in and played vital roles in our uptick in form.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see his next job in League One again, he feels like one of those managers that just gets picked up no matter what.

Hadn't seen DC's post-match, more an assumption than anything. Just the way it happened looked like your classic hamstring pull. But if not, then that's some good news at least!

And even Appleton only had one good season out of three with us (and had a very talented, albeit some injury prone, squad for that season). Either side of the PO season it was painful in the main.

It was more the other way round. You'll soon come tumbling back down. You might be a big fish in this league but you'll be a minnow in the league above. Sonny.
Dream on. We'e backed by a bilionaire. No more playing shite like you

Not to mention 4 to get out of L2!

12 seasons overall to get back to the Championship if they go back up so his delusions of grandeur of playing "shit clubs" is probably a bit tainted with the over achievement of making the Premier League era.

They are a decent club though and most are decent posters on here so wish them well and should be plying their trade in the 2nd tier really, they've bounced around 2nd and 3rd tier a few times since WWII like we have aside from the odd spell in the top flight. The English FL system is unforgiving and plenty of so called bigger clubs have found the lower leagues tough.

Every club has their share of trolls. I can't recommend the Ignore option enough.

You can work out someone's agenda pretty quickly. When you're never going to win the argument rationally just don't engage. It's like playing chess with a pigeon.

Says he that knows all about history.

Pompey were actually top league champions 2 years on the bounce and held the FA cup the longest.

Your level is were you are going. So jog on sonny and maybe we might meet in the cup in a few years. Hope not though.

Enjoy this vid

Hold on to these three points against the Cobblers and I will be much more relaxed about the end of this season…
