Bottom 4 are done for. Fleetwood the only ones showing any life at the moment but think they have too much to do.

Are there many six pointers left between the sides between Exeter and Fleetwood?

We are done, well I say that we’ve been done for a couple of weeks now but today ends any slight hope. 3 wins in 6 months… 11 wins since Jan 1st 2023 lessons not learnt repeating the same mistakes as last January.

Last April I was really worked up about going down to that level again, really stressed with our form… this year I can barely be arsed.. might win a few all be it this bunch don’t have any fight so can’t see them digging in on a January Tuesday night at Harrogate or Barrow.

Yeah we're gone 100%. There's so much hit and hope and hoping something drops, no pattern to the play, no drive or energy. It went weeks ago but today confirmed it.

We've played an absolutely toss team today, proper strugglers and yet again we walk away with no points. It's happened way too many times this season.

I think we should just declare at this point. What's the point in playing the last 11 games?

The only positive is that we might be playing Afc Wimbledon next season, which is literally round the corner from my best mate's house. Some decent boozers around there. We'd also be a bigger team, surely targeting the autos ...especially if we can get rid of some of these dossers. It would just be nice to win a few games here and there. Nearly the middle of March and we still haven’t won in 2024!

We’ve got Reading (a) and Port Vale (a) to come. I think we are at risk - Port Vale aside, all games we have left are against sides above us in the table and we’re not playing well.

Shrewsbury were awful. We deserved to win but Garrity misses a sitter, Wilson forces the keeper into a save when it was easier to score, Debrah somehow has a header bounce off the goalkeeper when he knew absolutely nothing about it whatsoever... don't think Ripley has done much all afternoon. Poor marking for the first and the second was clearly offside but who gives a fuck at this point? Thought Benning played well. He's better than Jones and Grant all day long.

Referee was solid for 35 minutes and then his head fell off and he was absolutely diabolical for BOTH sides - some proper strange decisions given.

Shrewsbury's following was pathetic but to be expected. However, I thought they were absolutely terrific. One of the most vocal bunches we've had all season at VP. A brilliant variety of songs, great noise and seemed to really enjoy their day. Fair play to them. Impressed.

Can't wait to see 150 Crawley, Harrogate and Accrington fans again next season. The joys.

Lofty got battered for missing a one on one the other week but Garrity you’d have your house on him burying that.

After todays poor performance we are definitely still guests at this party, hard to see where our next win is going to come from. Cobblers were there for the taking today but we couldn’t do it.

I just watched the Shrews goals on Sky. I can't see how you can say they was awful. They was good enough to beat you.

Oh and why do you PV fans go into so much detail about yours games? like anyone gives a flyin fcuk

It’s in our hands but we’ve got a tough run in. If any of Vale, Fleetwood or Cheltenham actually pick up any wins then we’re right back in it.

Our run in is:
Lincoln (a)
Reading (a)
Wycombe (h)
Barnsley (a)
Wigan (h)
Blackpool (a)
Charlton (h)
Bristol Rovers (a)
Derby (h)
Port Vale (a)

Four at home, six away. Lincoln are in great form, plus Barnsley, Blackpool and Derby are going to be hard to get anything from. Charlton have picked up too since Jones joined. So realistically we’re looking at the Wycombe and Wigan home games then Reading, Bristol Rovers and Vale away as our best chances of picking up points.

We should have enough to get over the line once Monk has his feet under the desk but we’re still at risk.

I’m convinced we are going down. So so bad.
Our game against you could be the ultimate 6 pointer - if we ever find any form again.

Our run in:
Barnsley (a)
Peterborough (h) (though this is likely to be moved to the last week of the season due to internationals)
Fleetwood (a)
Exeter (h)
Orient (a)
Carlisle (h)
Bristol Rovers (h)
Burton (a)
Lincoln (h)
Stevenage (a)

It's ripe for getting close to safety only to bottle it with two tough final games.

So you've watched a couple of minutes of highlights and judged the whole game? It doesn't take much to beat us, does it? We're hopeless.

I'll post whatever the fuck I like, thanks. Don't like it? Just scroll past. Simple.

Big game for both us and Exeter tomorrow night where a win for either side will virtually make you all but safe for another season in League One. If I’m honest, after Saturday’s game I’m feeling relaxed on the whole situation, it’ll take some doing for us to go down from here. The bottom four will stay as it is I’m pretty certain on that.

Hopefully come 10pm tomorrow evening, Salop can sign out of this thread and not have to worry about glamour trips to Harrogate, Crawley, Salford or Barrow.

The only salvation any club in the bottom four is to have is Reading...

Likely to lose 2 more points which may ajar the door for Cheltenham but they also have a situation developing where they have a shortfall (the owner has put the training ground up for sale).

Administration maybe could be their way out? which would open the door for whoever is 21st (more likely Cheltenham or Fleetwood) so may as well keep fighting but its desperate times when your chances depend on that!

If Burton lose tomorrow, it's back in our own hands as we'll have a game in hand and have to play them still.

I'm not expecting anything, but I refuse to give up hope. Otherwise, what's the point in going on.

You've done well to get out of trouble because based on the 2 times we played you, you look like a relegation team. An even half competent team would have beaten you on Saturday, I think you had 2 shots from your only 2 chances against us who are truly dreadful. Second one was offside too.

To be fair we've lost to Carlisle once, gave 4 points to Fleetwood, 6 to Cheltenham, 6 to Shrewsbury, 3 to Reading, lost to Burton and drew Cambridge we've been appalling against to poorer sides in the division which is whats really put us in this mess, you've got to get results in most of your 6 pointers, we've beaten Carlisle and Reading once and thats it! An average record against teams below and around us and we'd be alright.

I’ve tried not to bite to Vale fans since Saturday because I know you must be all pissed off to the max about going down, as anybody would, but I’ll bite here.

Two shots!? You must have missed the Bayliss deflected shot that went centre metres wide (we scored from the resulting corner), Bloxham missing a sitter less than six yards out from a cross, Dunkley’s header saved, numerous goal mouth scrambles from corners/set pieces.

Yes we played terrible, but I don’t know what you’re expecting. We’ve not got players like Jude Bellingham and Rodri in the midfield with wingers like Saka and Doku out wide. We’re a League One club scrapping for their lives and doing a better job of it than Port Vale. I really couldn’t give a shiny shit about performances at this stage, I just don’t want to be playing tinpot teams that’ll struggle to bring three figures of supporters to our 1700 seater away end next season. The club will be a couple million down at the very least. The financial implications of relegation from League One to League Two is huge.

Hopefully you bounce back as I don’t mind the Vale as much as other Salop supporters probably don’t as my uncle is a season ticket holder at Vale Park and I go now and then when I visit him. Think you’ll be back in League Two for atleast a few seasons though with the crazy money thrown about down there these days.

You had two shots on target, both in the net the stats show that, you were probably the poorest side at Vale Park this season (i didn't go the away game so cant comment on that one) but as you say you did enough, we should of scored 4 or 5 but confidence is low and we didn't take the chances we should of done, coupled with two pieces of shocking defending (especially the first which started with Smith messing around in our own corner to create both the chance and then the corner) its why we are going down.

As mentioned though our form against sides who are in dire form or down the bottom has been incredibly bad this season and its damning on us and our director of footballs failure in recruitment that we've got into this position.

We don't expect Man City or Real Madrid, but we expect effort, desire and some life in us which is lacking most weeks at the moment. Its not the worst Vale side we've had on paper but its the most lacking in energy and effort i've seen, even the mad foreign experiment Smurf put together had more fight than this lot.

As I have mentioned before with some big budget sides coming up from League Two sides that do survive this season are going to massively have to put their game next season to avoid being caught up because Wrexham, Stockport, Gillingham/MK will likely spend bigger money so a big summer for sides like Cambridge, yourselves and Burton for instance.

Next season is another discussion altogether. Should we survive, next season will be our 10th consecutive season at this level and with Fleetwood going down, we’ll be the longest serving.

The jump from League Two to League One is one of the biggest in the footballing pyramids imo. We’re not a good team yet we battered Wrexham in the Cup and they were very fortunate to beat us in the end. All of those teams will struggle unless they sign League One ready players. Not many teams survive this league more than three seasons after getting promoted these days.

Now that we have a competent manager at the helm again, plus a solid core of players under contract for next season, I doubt we’ll go down. Of course this is all very premature as we could still go down this season plus I’ve not seen our summer recruitment yet should we stay up. Have confidence in Paul Hurst here either way though.
