That was hard to listen to. Thank goodness it didn't go to the final day.

Result I was most bothered about tonight was Plymouth. Could of done with them getting at least a point to keep charlton on their toes. The pessimist in me reckons charlton might settle for playing an out of sorts Shrewsbury as oppose to Rotherham.

Somehow we've stayed up with the shit Jon Whitney built and left us. Clear out needed for next season.

We’ll be happy to play either, we’ve played Rotherham off the park twice this season so we’re not desperate to avoid them.

Also, while there’s still a slim chance that we could miss out there is no way that Lee Bowyer will tolerate anything other than playing for the win.

I think we’ll beat Rochdale.

Can't wait for Oldham to get beat with Dale losing to a last minute back pass that rebounds off the linesman and loops in.

Anyway, that's my cue to leave this thread. Good luck Oldham and Rochdale, may the best team win.

Not a chance Oldham are getting relegated. They've had a curse put on them where they can't get promoted or relegated from this league.

If we drop then it's totally self inflicted. So many points dropped from winning positions it's unreal.

But the club will still claim "we got to Wembley" even if it was for an fa cup replay where we got absolutely shat on.

I was there, stewarding in the Rochdale end. As I was for us vs Spudz two rounds earlier.

Would be a shame if Rochdale did drop. Since finally breaking their 36-year hoodoo, they've done very well in this division in the seasons they've not been relegated, finishing top 10 and close to the play-offs and scoring plenty of goals in the last three seasons.

I know many will say relegation can never be a good thing but Oldham seem to be stagnating and it's hard to envisage next season not being more of the same, at least they'd win more games in League 2 and might get something of a feel-good factor back.

Walsall were shite but congrats on their survival, it was nice in the second half to actually play some decent football and put a team under pressure for the first time in a long while. Begs the question why we’ve not used the lad Gibson hardly over the season as he was certainly the catalyst.

In all seriousness, good luck Dale. I personally don’t have anything against you and would have much preferred the both of us to stay up, but it is what it is.

Honest opinion, I think you’ll beat Charlton and our time in L1 finally comes to an end, albeit out of the arse end.

I like him whenever I've seen him, looks better than Gillead and he's our own. If Grayson is to believed it is attitude in training rather than ability, shame because that's what a lot of the team lacks.

Had to be fucking dale we go down too. I live in fucking rochdale for my sins.

We don't lose much and can see us getting a point but the kids Northampton will play will have a point to prove, like Southend did and that's what worries me.

Also, I can't see Northampton being too happy about us celebrating survival at their place so they Will be doing everythinthey can to drag us down with them

Nail on the head, if we don't get our 9-0 and Dale getting a point, we don't want you celebrating survival on our patch...plus Dean Austin is on his final interview for the permanent job.

No real bad blood between Dale & Oldham fans on the whole...just a few idiots on Match days.

Shame one of us has to go, but that's what a 46 game season is all about.

There is no doubt that we have underachieved this season based on a variety of things... poor Summer recruitment, injuries, baffling selections and tactics up to Xmas,

Our form since January has been top half, and we have shown patches of form approaching last season, but ultimately, we have been much worse than the previous couple of seasons. When the strikers have been scoring, the defenders have let stupid goals in, and when they have kept clean sheets, we can't score !!!

We generally struggle when on the TV, which makes me lean towards it being us for the drop. Hope I'm wrong.

Played off the park might be a bit of a stretch, just about deserved winners maybe?

Anyway we have beaten Scunthorpe twice, doesn't rally count for much in the play offs' it's all about the day and that
unfortunately includes bad refereeing decisions.
These play offs are wide open.
If we can't win them it's best to lose in the semi finals.
Losing to the Daggers at Wembley in 2010 was soul destroying and cost a bloody fortune.

I wasn’t at the home game but it was a pretty convincing victory and there was only ever one team in it at your place early in the season.

I know they don’t always tell the whole story but the possession stats for both games would indicate that we dictated both.

Well aware that these games count for nothing in the play-offs by the way just making the point that we don’t need to fear Rotherham.

Pretty sure we’ll end up with Shrewsbury anyway.

I don't think any of the teams should fear each other TBH.
The team I fear is ourselves, we can quite easily blow it, because our defence looks great in one game and bloody wide open in the next.

Whatever, it's been a great season considering how poor we were last year.

Bolton bouncing straight back up and you getting to the play-offs with something to spare after the terrible seasons you had should give some encouragement to the Sunderland fans who naturally are all doom and gloom and can't see light at the end of the tunnel.

But one thing which puzzles me, if the gap between the Championship and League 1 is that great, how come promoted teams from the latter often do well?

I'd guess strengthen in the right areas and use the momentum from the previous season, look at the teams who get promoted to the premier League, they often start well off the back of the last season then seem to begin to fade as the season goes on.

Off the top of my head, and therefore almost certainly wrong, the teams that do well are those that would consider the Championship to be their 'natural level', or higher. They get relegated because they're a basket case, then stabilise in L1, find that they can sign everyone's best players, and then they go back up having sorted themselves out and brought together a decent squad with the right attitude.

A bit like certain teams dropping to the Conference (Carlisle, Bristol Rovers, Luton) can use it to sort themselves out and then thrive afterwards. I'd guess teams like Sheff Utd and Leeds 'bottom out' at L1, whereas for the likes of Oxford etc its the Conference.
