There will be some of us on here ( probably not us ) who will end up 8 to 10 points clear of the drop and we'll all wonder what the fuss was all about.
Horrendous for all concerned and a double relegation is definitely a strong possibility for ourselves.
Forget the fixtures they are irrelevant, form etc goes out of the window , only have to look at the bizarre results on Saturday.
Lot more twists and turns for all of us. To me the ideal opponents are mid table sides going nowhere, Stevenage, Newport, Carlisle, Cambridge.
Only have to look at us, we managed a clean sheet against a Newport team dropping like a stone.
Magnificent Vale.

10 of our last 12 games are against teams with something to play for, including 4 of the current top 5. Not ideal. Only Colchester and Newport left to play from the midfield pack. And given our results against those two, 5-1 and 0-4 defeats, it's not like those are bankers either.

You're spot on with the midtable sides, the best teams to face if in a battle either end of the table

Genuinely don’t think I’m going to cope very well in this thread if we are still here over the next few months.

Trying to compare run-ins I'd say it's the team with the most fixtures against current top half sides.
Yeovil 10 (Ouch!!)
Crewe 4
FGR 5
Grimsby 6
Morecambe 7
Port Vale 5
Chesterfield 5
Barnet 3

Looks like Yeovil may not do as well as I though they would. If we can get through March not far adrift then we have no top half teams left to play in our remaining seven games so if we are going to scare a few then it's probably going to be a late run. Still betting on a winner takes all against Chesterfield on the last day.

FGR at home to Grimsby on last day.
I hope the relegation positions have already been decided by then.
There is nothing worse than playing a club who gets relegated at end of match.
That happened to FGR last season at York and it leaves both sets of supporters and clubs with a bitter taste.

I have a horrible feeling we will be. To help me cope better I have had a little side bet on us to go down at a surprisingly large 14/1 yesterday, which I hope I do not pick up.

If we get 7 points from the next 3 I will sleep easier... doable but this is Vale!

I absolutely agree with you and its why I have a dislike of Northampton fans after the disgusting way they treated us when we were relegated.

If it does come down to the final day and we survive then my thoughts will be of relief rather than gloating and goading the fans of a side who have just lost their league status.

Remember back in 2010 when we lost at rock bottom Grays who basically had a youth team out, conceding 2 quick goals and dropping 5 places into the relegation zone. That looked to have disastrously relegated us with a massive unpaid tax bill hanging over our heads when it had looked easier to survive. Never seen any of our managers/teams get as much abuse at the end of a game/season as that lot got at the final whistle of that game.

We later got reprieved but on the day it was fucking awful, Grays to their credit were very respectful, despite the fact they were going down 3 leagues and losing their ground. What a cheerful end to the season that was for both clubs. That's why I was glad we acted respectfully towards York when we sent them down last season.

Hahaha disgusting. Singing 'going down going down going down' LOCK US UP ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. What a fanny.

I've been to a couple of games when the other team got relegated on the final day and two games where we went out of the league. Your fans are the only ones who I can recall getting their kicks chanting at the away fans after the game rather than applauding their own teams win and the success of their team on the last day of the season.

Regardless of what you think, I will always associate Northampton with tossers thanks to a group of your fans.

Nah, having to watch your team at that soulless ground is punishment enough.

You play at The Hive in front of about 800 people, there's no high ground for you here Sir

We played Bristol City last game of the season years ago. They needed to win to reach the play offs. We had already qualified for them. Lovely draw!

Tee hee! Oh what fun that was!

Barnet were for a long time Northamptons bogey side. ..we were pretty much handed 3 points everytime we went away to theirs. Personally I had no issue having someone take the piss out of us when we got relegated we deserved it.

If football fans genuinely get upset at stuff like this you are in the wrong game.

I remember Barnet fans myself included singing to Plymouth fans during the foot and mouth crisis ' your green your white your cows are alight ' ....that is far worse than any old cobblers !

Blimey, I can't believe any fan would ever seek to take the pi$$ out of an opposing club's plight. Ban Northampton from the FL and reprieve us of relegation - it's the only way to ensure justice is served.

Yeah, it's a twattish thing to do, if you've ever felt the pain of being relegated to non-league it's fucking awful.

Given how close you boys were a few seasons ago, I'd have thought you'd have had a more respectful and knowledgeable outlook on the scenario

Maybe you'll go down to the conference and find out one day.

Got admit at the time I happily gloated when we relegated Stockport to non league. Only because they did the same to us 2 years before.

Believe me gents, this particular game was the worst one ever in terms of one set of fans taking pleasure in sending their opponents down. I'd really like to say what the Orient fans did to the Oxford fans on that day but I just can't seeing this is a family friendly forum :told: Absolutely despicable some of the things they did! ;)

Funny thing I remember happening 96/97 season in the Championship we were playing Southend final game who were already relegated.
To stay up we had to win and hope Bradford didn't win their game, we won easily 4-0 but word filtered through that Bradford were also winning easily (they won 3-0) and the Southend lot in the away end started singing 'you're going down with the Southend' which I have to admit made me smile a bit despite our imminent relegation. :bg1:
