We are the only team showing no signs of turning things around. We’re fucked.

Bevis Mugabi (Uganda)
Corey Whelan, Shaun Donnellan (Rep Ireland U21)
Tom James (Wales U21)
Rhys Browne (Antigua and Barbuda)

Thanks.

And York have had a game postponed because their opponents, lower midtable in National League North, have three players on international duty - wonder how far down the pyramid these internationals go!

I'd like to dress it up and say we lost to screw Chesterfield over, but we didn't as we were crap.

Crewe look safe now. Morecambe and Forest Green are probably there or there abouts.

Grimsby have the look of a side that are going to go down. I mean, we aren’t winning games but we aren’t losing much either and just keep plugging on picking up draws. We’ve not won for 14 games but we’ve still picked up 8 points.

Could do with Barnet losing tonight and Chesterfield losing tomorrow. A win Friday at home against Chesterfield would probably see us on the brink of safety. They’d have 8 games to regain 11 points, we’d have 6 games where I reckon we will pick up around 4-6 points.

Conversely you could say going by the law of averages, that having picked up 5 points from 18 games, no side could possibly stretch such a dire run of form over such a long period of time and you are bound to pick up form before the season's out. Once you do that, you should have just enough points to see you home, surely?

It would obviously be of bigger concern if your side had been down there all season, but you were doing reasonably well up to Christmas, so is it more a confidence than skill problem?

Not our best performance, but by far our grittiest. Horrible surface and a weird ground, but we dug in and picked up the win. Lovely finish by McKirdy and Bowery now has 6 in 5, can’t stop scoring at the moment. Switched off at a corner, but we dealt with everything Newport threw at us and didn’t give them much infront of goal. Deserved win, takes us to the brink of safety, think one more win should do it barring something incredible. Avoid defeat at Barnet next Friday and I think we’ll be fine.

In 09/10, we went 25 games winless and gained 15 points in that run. We’re a lot worse than that team. You think we’ll manage 10 points in 7 games to equal that horrendous run? And can you guess what happened at the end of that season?

Looks like it's between Barnet Chesterfield and Grimsby now.

My safe points total was 42, so I think Crewe can relax now. Grimsby are in trouble if Chesterfield start to win their games in hand. I think Barnet need a small miracle.

I am still expecting us to go these last 7 games unbeaten and comfortably stay up.

I also still believe in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy, and think 9/11 never happened and it was just some big fucking hologram.

I think Barnet shouldn’t be an concern to us now... need three wins and a draw out of 7 games and that’s if we lost all 7.

If Chesterfield fail to win tomorrow and we beat them Friday that should be us safe. We are playing well so hopefully that win will finally come! Must not lose it regardless.

I think up to Forest Green are still in it if you look at the points. Granted it would require Grimsby to win a game to rein them in but it is only one win that separates them.

Edit: I think Barnet are only able to finish above Chesterfield and Grimsby, whereas I think Chesterfield could challenge as high as Forest Green.

If we beat Barnet on Friday I think we are 100% safe, probably are already in truth. Bit more importantly I think thats Barnet gone. Chesterfield need at east 6 points in the next 3 games including beating the Vale on Friday to drag them into it. If the Spireites win tomorrow then it starts to get very inteesting. At this point in the season I'd rather have the points on the board so favour the chances of Grimsby and Vale staying up despite neither side being able to win a game.

Not fussed about Forest Green. Finishing ahead of Barnet and one of Grimsby or Port Vale will be fine.

Yes it does look bad, but so often in football a team that seems to show no signs whatsoever of turning things around, all of a sudden picks up in results and performances. All you can do is keep the faith and hope the players/manager have not lost it either!

That coupled with our injuries would have left us with only about 13 available players.

Who is it?

Ryan Burge, played couple dozen games in our promotion season before a highly public fall out with Adams which ended his time with us...

Rocked up at Newport briefly and not currently got a club, was a decent player in fairness but he’s crackers... randomly applied for the managers job when Brown was sacked with a big letter on Twitter about how he would turn it around. Laughed at by Smurf and Pope not sure if he’s bantering or actually being serious! Literally trolling the fans and club on twitter non stop!

1 more win and I can't see us going down on 46 barring absolute sorcery at the bottom.

We also have the most favourable run in after Barnet themselves so it'd take a lot for us to go down from being 12 points clear with 7 to play, but stranger things have happened. Come on Notts tomorrow!

Also for context, at this point last season after 39 games. The bottom 5 was like this.

20. Notts County - 46
21. Hartlepool - 41
22. Cheltenham - 39
23. Newport - 33
24. Orient - 32

If I'm right, Newport would get 11 points from their last 7 games and Hartlepool would only get 2 (including a fatal defeat to Orient which ultimately kept Newport in the league). So, Barnet would really need a mammoth run of form from a favourable run in to get out of this mess. Chesterfield have the games in hand, but they mean nothing if they don't pick up points from them.

After 39 games, Notts County were officially safe with 46 points, so for me, that'll be the magic number again accounting for any sorcery from the bottom two that could well happen...

I have a feeling grimsby will drop. I think they fucked up by giving the job to a complete novice.

They should have got someone in if only til the end of the season to make sure they get out of the shit. Then take the gamble on the novice in the summer.

Grimsby host both Chesterfield and Barnet in consecutive games I think so that could well decide their fate... certainly must not lose games but if they lost them both they’d be in a pickle.

The good thing for us is we are capable of winning home games.

Beat Colchester at home on Easter Monday and we're nearly there.

I have been thinking for a very long time now that Grimsby are going, but they just don't seem to be really be getting any closer to the bottom two despite their best efforts. More confident in them staying up now than I was a month ago probably.

We are winless in 14 and as it stands at this moment in time we are only three points closer to the drop zone than we were 14 games ago! It’s nuts! If Chesterfield lose today and we beat them Friday we will be as we were with the 11 point gap. So far teams hovering above the drop zone have been let off massively.
