Tbf in the 1 game form table you're doing ok, keep up that 1 point a game average for the next 6 and you'll be fine.

As everyone nose, I'm normally right about stuff and I don't think Grimsby will actually go down.
Sadly you are wrong about this one Chris, first half we had 3 great chances which is more than we've had in about our last 5 games combined but we still couldn't put one in.
Doomed. :gmc:

We HAVE to make the 2 games in hand count now, as well as winning the game Monday at home to Newport to put pressure on those above us! How have we lost that today? Unbelievably poor game management, and that is exactly why we're down there, no one else in this league concedes the amount of 'soft' goals that we do

A massive missed chance for Chesterfield, not only with Grimsby dropping points but with playing Vale and them going down to 10 as well.

Both penalties were clear-cut and that was the sort of performance that can make me believe that we can achieve another gear escape.

We were no better today than we've been since McGhee left, but Crewe were horrific and gifted us two penalties. Not sure how we were stupid enough to let them score - more terrible defending.

Didn't see anything today to make me think we'll stay up, unfortunately. It'll be between us and Grimsby but we're too far behind in my view.

But it was the kind of performance that showed that Allen would have things to work with. I also think we'll still be going down but that was a better home performance than I've seen in absolutely ages. It's also great to see Akinde score some pens again - he changed his technique back to what it used to be rather than blasting them.

That’s my view of it. I think Beebot, you’re being a bit harsh on our performance today.

Football is about opinions I guess. I sincerely don't think we were any better today than we were against Accrington for example.

Haven't seen either penalty but I guess that means slowly rolling them right into the corner, both against us last season where like that.

One was and the other was in the top corner.

Although, upon reflection, Allen deserves credit for making sensible subs - Westley would have chucked on Clough and Nicholson and completely fucked it.

Also pleasing that Akinde has been taking the time to get his penalties right again.

Guess I was just pissed off that we let a truly awful team equalise after taking our foot off the gas (which seems to happen in every home game) and that we kept trying to play tiki taka around their box with the pitch in awful state.

Reckon we will be okay now. Chesterfield would have to win half of their remaining games with us not picking up any points to catch us and I reckon we will get at least another 3-5 points; especially if we play like we have today with 10 men.

2 from Chesterfield, Barnet and Grimsby (maybe Forest Green).

Their equaliser was a truly awful goal, as bad as that equaliser by Port Vale. I’m not sure who was more to blame, Ross or our defence.

What do the Barnet fans make of Ross? About a month or so back when you were looking dead and buried, a couple of U's fans were saying on FB that we should try to sign him up in the Summer as he wouldn't want to go back to NL football ('he's better than that' they reckon)

I haven't been keeping tabs on him but I get the impression Barnet fans do not exactly rate him?

NL is about his level. Like all keepers he's capable of making some great saves but he has a few shockers to go with it and struggles in the air. We've had worse keepers but I'd be surprised if any L2 team wanted him as anything other than backup.

Not sure what makes anyone think he's too good for the NL. He's only had two seasons at that level and was in and out of the team in both.

I have a recurring nightmare of us going into the last game of the season, a home game against Grimsby, with both of us needing to win to stay up...mind you, Barnet and Chesterfield fans are probably experiencing exactly the same as they are also playing against each-other.

As I expected, we have given ourselves a glimmer of hope. Port Vale are now out of it imo. It’s two from us, Chesterfield, Grimsby and FGR. We still have to play them all.

We need to beat them all to have a shot at finishing above two of them. Still highly unlikely but at least we have something to play for going into the Stevenage game.

That was probably our worst performance of the season. Didn't seem to realise we were playing on a bog of a ptich in the driving rain. Played tippy tappy football and kept losing it deep in our half, utterly ridiculous decision. Got away with a couple of scares in the first half, but then we concede a brainless penalty early in the 2nd half. Managed to get back into it with a fortunate bounce and tidy finish. But for some reason, we seemed to forget we were playing the team bottom of the league and decided to sit on the 1-1 like we'd got a point in the bag.

Gave away another penalty, which our side are adamant never was, but we'll wait on the highlights. After that was scored, we had a bit of pressure but never looked like scoring. I am fuming, we totally bottled it today, win and we can put our feet up. Now, we need a result on Monday with Mansfield and Luton next up. Hopefully that's the last time we sit on a result, was worryingly like Steve Davis had taken over for the last 20 minutes today.

Fair play to Barnet, they did enough to win and were the better side on the day.

Grimsby had their chance today. Stevenage were the perfect "meh" club offering nothing in anything and happily in midtable. If Grimsby were ever to win a game today was it. Like snails Chesterfield and Barnet will slowly overtake them on the current trajectory.

I feel conned after being inspired to go today by what I saw on TV last week.

A cowardly & spineless display.

Current points table from the last 6 games
Morecambe 7
Port vale 7
FGR 7
Grimsby 2
Chesterfield 7
Barnet 7

At the current rate, Chesterfield and Barnet will both surpass the sinking ship of Grimsby, but chesterfields games in hand and relative form to others will see Barnet sink also.

I don't rate him really. He's VERY shady on coming for crosses - he'll start to come, then change his mind about 10 times, then eventually make a hash of a punches clearance. As with most L2 keepers, shot stopping wise he's good (made a great one today, a few from range against Luton) and he's got a better kick on him than Stephens does/did (he's injured half the time with a bad hip issue which affects his kicking when fit) but his indecision is a big issue. You don't want him if you're looking to push up from midtable, definitely.

Both penalties looked clear-cut to me.
Your team seemed to be very loathe to use the wings for some reason and played at a tempo suggestive of a end of season mindset. Plus your right-back, Ng, acted like a bit of an idiot all match.
