It wouldn’t take much for Grimsby to fuck it up actually but remaining confident. Morecambe losing would have helped massively.

Commiserations to Chesterfield. A double relegation cannot be a nice feeling at all.

I take it you don't remember your own double relegation this century? I don't blame you for blotting it out of your memory mind.

Interestingly your team went up with us in 1998 and beat us in our last encounter in the old Div. 1, with Paul Hurst scoring the only goal.

I suspect Martin Allen is buzzing - he wanted to take it to the final day and that aim is now entirely in our own hands. He will be loving the build up this week and dare I say it, will be confident that we can get a result.

Be absolutely gutted if we get Fylde in place of Chesterfield tbf.

Commiserations Spireites. I remember playing you three years ago on Easter Monday in League One, going to the Proact for the first time and seeing fans all in Chesterfield shirts, a smart new stadium with other revenue streams, a bright young manager and a bright young team play some of the best football I've ever seen against us. How you only beat our pathetic side 1-0 that day I'll never know. A couple of our fans were so impressed that day they said that Chesterfield were setting an example for clubs of our size by doing things the right way.

Just like Tranmere and Leyton Orient before you, you too, have experienced a very sharp decline and it's very sad to see. Hope you bounce back as soon as possible.

I don't get this anti Fylde stuff myself, granted I am gutted for Chesterfield but we know 2 teams have to go, but if Fylde do make it, it would see a decent Alex away following. And living up that way I'm also looking at it from a purely selfish viewpoint.

Because everyone was asking for one.....well, no-one was, but here is a midweek update, not that it needs much explaining. Yeovil and FGR confirm their place in League Two for next season, and at the other end, Chesterfield have their fate finally confirmed, not that it was in any doubt. Hope you bounce back next season Spirites.

Anyway, Morecambe don't quite get it done, but they are close. However, everything(even Grimsby's fate) rides on the Morecambe v Barnet game on Saturday. If Barnet win, then you would actually back them to beat the drop given Morecambe have to go to Coventry on the final day and the Bees have Chesterfield at home. Also, you can see Notts County, as they bid for an automatic spot, beating Grimsby as well. As I said on Saturday, I actually hope it happens from a neutral point of view, would make for an epic final day.

So, we're all set for a cracking day on Saturday.

Morecambe v Barnet
Grimsby Town v Notts County

Crazy how that was just 3 years ago eh! Even the most pessimistic of spireites couldn't have seen this coming after Cook left, but hey ho, the board have got what they deserve and as always, it's the fans that suffer!

We'll be back, hopefully sooner rather than later...

BTW it's funny how Yeovil and FGR both needed a point to stay up, and that's exactly what they got after playing out a tame goalless draw with only 8 shots on goal between them. Not that relegation was ever a likelihood for either of them, of course...

Listening to the commentary and reading reports from fans who went, more were surprised at how open it started considering how a draw would suit. Fair few attempts but poor finishing in bad weather, then our goalie got knocked unconscious and after a long delay the rest of the match did slow a bit as the finishing line was in sight but that's as far as it went.

Can’t believe such a massive club like Chesterfield has got relegated to non league. Might be the next York, Stockport or even Darlington

Only a couple of years ago the L1 playoffs - Chesterfield losing to Preston and us losing to Preston in the final. Sheffield Utd and PNE both doing well in the Championship, Chesterfield dropping out of the league and us stagnating and as dull as dishwater in the abyss of L2. How quick things can go tits up.

Not a bad couple of results for us, although would have preferred Cambridge to win it, but beggars can't be choosers. Feels very much back in our hands, even though technically it isn't.

Forest Green's draw will really only have some context when we see what Grimsby do against Notts County. If they fail to beat Notts County, then last night's predictable draw will actually work in our favour, as Forest Green have no jeopardy when they play Grimsby, which makes a draw in that game much less likely.

Still, first things first, need to beat Morecambe.

That’s one hell of a feat from Paul Hurst as he never played for us.

My only visit to the Proact came on a Tuesday night in the middle of a relegation battle - presumably in that same season. They tore us apart that evening and smashed us 6-0. Chesterfield were just strolling through us time and again with ease and looked like scoring with every attack, we were 3-0 down inside about 20 minutes and double figures would genuinely have not been undeserved.

The highlight though was after one of the most depressing evenings supporting us and appearing destined for the drop, our manager came out and said about our fans: "I’m sure they admired Chesterfield’s quality”. Yeah, cheers Tony. Glad I made the trip to watch a masterclass by the heavyweights that are Chesterfield.

Just had a scroll back through the Chesterfield v Grimsby opening day thread, some quality predictions in there......:eye:

https://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/...-mariners-let-the-hostility-recommence.15811/

Including these corkers from yours truly:

Hi mucker despite some of our fans doom and gloom we will be fine this season. Mid table for me with outside chance of a play off push if we get a good no.9 in the door soon and when we got back in the League I thought to myself that I'd be happy with 3 years or so mid table consolidation building up to hopefully challenging promotion so I'm very content myself.
Also gonna call it here now that Chesterfield will definitely be top 7 and wouldn't be surprised if they're top 3.
It was just our day today.

Just think at that point, how little Grimsby and Chesterfield knew about just how shite they would turn out being this season.

Shows how pre-season/early season form means fuck all in the long run.

So FGR surviving has come from gaining points from the bottom half.

They have gained only 10 points from the top 11 teams in the division, with doing the double over Coventry. They've only gained points against Mansfield and Notts County in addition, in that group. Quite surprising in a division where everyone can beat everyone.

Not quite as easy is it Vincey?

Can see Chesterfield now beating Barnet on the final day. Cos that's always the way isn't it?

Knowing how shit it is being a Barnet fan, that's exactly what'll happen.

Or even worse, we'll win both games, then Grimsby'll win a 99th minute penalty at FGR because they sneezed in the box or some shit.

Haven’t Barnet survived on an umpteen number of occasions right at the last knockings?

Yep, between 2010 and 2012 we survived on the last day. If we got out of it this time, it would be an even greater escape than the 2010/11 one.

Ha ha, the hypocrisy of Barnet fans is brilliant. How often have they benefitted from Akinde (pen) over the years. I'm sure they were all stonewallers.
