Chipmunx, what can you say about Scott Quigley, apparently we may be interested?

That’s a fake account on twitter.

Plus we wouldn’t pay money for a forward who hasn’t scored goals in the Football League.

I am amazed that if Chipmunx is correct that a non-league player is on a three year contract. Is this normal?

it's not normal - but we offered him a 3 year deal where as Wrexham i believe offered him 1 or 2 years and he wanted the longer contract security and a playing style that suited him more

Wow. We could not even offer Lamerias or Carey that length of deal. You must be very sure of your income.

yeah - we got a new board about 15 months ago and have really improved income streams since then. As an example our chairman wrote in a recent matchday programme that revenue in November was up £35,000 on November the year before. And that's before the upturn in attendances;- we've just had 5 consecutive gates over 2000 for the 1st time since we went out of the league in 1972. We had 3200 for the boxing day match against Fylde and are hoping for similar in our televised home match on the 18th against 4th placed Bromley - the fact we won our last home game 7-0 won't do us any harm there...

ok - we might not have as many fans as bigger town's and cities - but there are some league 2 teams that can't even manage that;- Macclesfield, Morecambe and Crawley to name but 3

Bit harsh to compare, those 3 are all struggling or have big problems off the pitch. What crowds would Barrow get in their position?

Do you reckon you'll be competitive if you come up? Big step up, the Conference is piss poor these days. You'll need to totally rebuild your squad.

Maybe I should have compared our attendances to yours - 3 of your last 5 home league crowds are below 2200 and your 7th in League 2. Only 2 of our last 5 are below 2300 - how many would we get in your position?

Wasn't talking about us, but if you insist we averaged 2700 when we finished 21st two years ago. If you come up and struggle, will you better that?

Crowds been down a bit recently, but we aren't exactly a happy ship with some boycotting/protesting against our stadium move and our owner using the club for political stuff, plus we're shit at home. Also we're a traditional tinpotter so not really a great benchmark for you to compare yourselves to tbh. You're a traditional league club from a much bigger town, you should be getting double our crowds.

Why are FGR fans only protesting now? Hasn't Vince always used the club for his political/business aims? The stadium move has been mooted for a couple of years as well, hasn't it?

Chris will correct me if I'm wrong - but a lot were boycotting because of their treatment by the club because they dare to speak out against the stewarding and sometimes boo the players.

Yep, that's one big reason. Certain section of our support feel like they've been treated like crap for quite a while now, not helped by our newish CEO shutting off a lot of facilities for corporate/VIP only and putting security everywhere, inc stewards who are more then happy to chuck out home fans at the drop of a hat. If you aren't a sycophant you're not welcome. South Standers are second class citizens who, when not banned for minor/petty stuff are given much worse facilities and treated with suspicion.

What's recently made things even worse (for some) is all the Labour propaganda around the election, inc hosting a rally for Jeremy Corbyn, giving him a shirt etc. Should keep politics out of football. On top of that many don't like seeing the club being taken away from it's roots to an ego project of a stadium next to the M5 that the club won't own.

When your main group of hardcore supporters mantra is 'Support the team, hate the regime' you know things aren't going that well. The club is pretty divided at the minute.

Got to be honest I don’t really follow this expected goals stat. Stevenage are the lowest scorers on 15 and the nearest to them is 6 goals ahead so don’t get how they can be anything other than bottom. Nothing against Stevenage fans as such but I hope Morecambe and Macc both go on a run (the former can wait until after midweek though) and Stevenage are the ones who go down. Just hate playing them.

The gist of it is that xG is a better measure of creativity than shots taken/conceded. Stevenage are creating chances but not scoring them, the argument made by the proponents of xG is that in the long-run it has always been shown to even out, so that Stevenage will either stop creating chances and slide down the xG table to reflect their league position or if they do keep creating the chances they are, they'll start putting them away.

Because it is expected goals, not actual goals. Just means they are creating plenty of chances in games but not actually putting them away.

Now that we (and Swindon) have reached the "magical 50 points" does this mean that we are officially excused from this thread (until, at least, next season?)

Hate it when politicians get presented with shirts, it's so fake and cringey as fuck.

Stevenage yesterday were pretty bad, they were organised and fought for everything as you’d expect but can see why they are bottom scoring only 15 goals. At one point they broke from our corner and had a 3 on 1 and all it needed was a simple pass to go 1 on 1 with the keeper and it was belted out for a goal kick

Expected goals is fine as long as every team has identical ability, confidence etc up front. Stevenage’s strikers probably couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo - their expected goals could be 50 based on this measure but it’s zero because their strikers are shite.

That said, I’ve probably just hung our team from a tree. We have them at home on Saturday and have recently ended awful runs for Leyton Orient, Mansfield and Macclesfield. Stevenage could easily be next.

This xG lark is saying that Mansfield should have won 5 games that we actually drew.

Well Maynard missed a penalty at Newport ( drew 2-2)
All over Stevenage in a 0-0 draw at home
Conceded late on against Northampton when they were never in game.
Lost a last minute equaliser at Vale when we should have won
Maynard missing a hat full of sitters at Crewe.

However is this going to even it's self out? I doubt it as our strikers are missing chances galore, while our defence concede sloppy goals.

Seems to me that Carlisle will be claiming that one relegation spot. Could've done without that little Fa Cup run of theirs I reckon.

I wonder what HG makes of all this, though he'll probably confirm my suspicions.

If we don’t strengthen this month we definitely will finish bottom. The team is currently the worst in the football league. Stevenage will maybe claim they are but at least they are creating chances, we are creating fuck all and if anything we are getting worse by the week.

Some of our players looked ok at the start of the season, not great but good enough to avoid the drop. But over the first months of the season Pressley made them worse and they’ve just carried on getting worse since then.

We need 3 or 4 quality signings to give ourselves a chance. Will we get them? Probably not. I’ve kind of resigned myself to relegation. It’s gut wrenching, but we have to live with it. It was always going to come eventually under these owners, so it should come as no surprise.
