Has Ricky Ravenhill become the new League Two journeyman? Sort of player synonymous with moving around but always actually finding a club.

People tend to bring him in when they are stuggling, the classic workhorse in midfield. Has his uses and always puts in a shift, I used to enjoy the fact literally every tackle he made was a slide tackle. Dont doubt he will pick up another club, whether it is in league 2 or the conference though is a different matter.

Ravenhill does a good impersonation of a footballer. Quite believable at times.

I don't think he was too bad for us. Not played in a while as Jamie McGuire has found some form and they are very similar players. Ravenhill had some good games though and his experience helped us when we went on that decent run in early Feb to mid March. Those home wins during that spell ended up keeping us up!

We were keen to sign him prior to him signing for Mansfield. Had him up to Brunton Park, deal agreed in principle, then bad traffic on the M6 on his way back down to Nottinghamshire put him off the idea.

Fabian Spiess and Mustapha Dumbuya the first of ours to confirm that they're off, will probably be a lot more later today.

Released or chosen to leave? Dumbuya is good isn't he?

I really thought Craddock would go on to have a good career when he first signed for us, seemed to have Championship-ish potential in that -30 points season. Injuries have really ruined him, did he ever even kick a ball for you lot?

He was the Tamworth RB wasn't he?

Yup, was absolutely outstanding last season for us, and was at worst average first half of this season before we started letting teams freely cross the ball into the box which blew the full back's confidence out of the water completely. Would be an excellent signing for a Conference side.

Yeah, he was another one that we tried to sign last season (or was it the season before when he signed for you?) but you got them instead!

released. He's good, solid League 1 full-back defensively but for all his pace he doesn't offer a lot going forward and he's injured A LOT. Great bloke though, I think he should find a League 1 club - he was our highest earner left at the club after Bialkowski and Haynes left, so I don't know what he'd command.

Major, major, clear out at the Abbey -

The following players, who's contracts expire at the end of this season, have not been offered new deals: Matteo Lanzoni, Mitch Austin, Richard Tait, Michael Nelson, Ian Miller, Luke Chadwick, Ryan Bird, Nathan Arnold and Tom Elliott.

In addition, following discussions this week, the club and Tom Champion have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. Everyone at Cambridge United would like to thank Tom and the other players now leaving the club, for their contribution this season and, in some cases, to our success over the last two years.

The club has also made the following contracted players available for transfer: Greg Taylor, Josh Coulson, Johnny Hunt, Robbie Simpson and Jordan Slew.

Three loan players, Dominic Ball, Sullay Kaikai and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, have returned to their parent clubs.

You lot lay off Ravenhill, what a trooper.Actually amazing we won the league playing 4 CBs, him and Bishop every game.

RE: leavers, I'm not 100% sure there's many I'd bring back. Pretty sure Spencer, Murray, Hollis, Curtis Thompson, Adams and McKenzie are under contract, plus Carroll. I can abide by 1 more of the oldies (don't care who, though ideally not Jones). It'll be interesting to see what Moniz tries to build around them. Oh, actually, we should bring Balint back because we can't really have Delroy Facey Day anymore.

That leaves us with:
  • Kippers - Dunn and Norris
  • Defence - Dunk
  • Midfield - Donaldson Hughes, Morrissey, BJ Taylor
  • Strikers - Gaffney and Chiedozie
Those outfield players have only made around 102 (+ 36 sub) appearances between them out of a total of 53 matches. Only Donaldson, Hughes, Dunk and Morrissey are proven L2 players. Even if we don't go for a better goalie and send Norris out on loan, there'll be at least 10 new faces, more if all those on the transfer list find a home.

As an old softie, I'll be disappointed to see Coulson, Hunt and Simpson go and Slew hasn't had much opportunity. But, on balance, I see it as a positive start to the summer and an appropriate reaction to the last 3 months.

No coincidence that last season we had a manager in place when we were making our decisions around our retained list and we had the best season for a long while when it came to summer recruitment. Looks like we might be back in the usual position of uncertainty over who will be in charge and therefore uncertainty over players retained and hitting the ground running at bringing players in.

Would hope that the nucleus of the team is kept with a couple of shrew additions.

Thought that Fabian Spiess was highly rated by you lot?

He was at 18. Just never really played in the last 4 years and on the very few occasions he has he's looked an athletic shot-stopper but shite at everything else. Being stuck behind two keepers as good as Bialkowski and Carroll for 3 seasons hasn't helped him either.

Huge rebuild needed for Cambridge then. That's a bold move to say the least. A lot of the players may not have been good enough, but you now have to build pretty much an entire squad from the ground up which is easier said than done.

Although I suppose if you were ever going to go the total rebuild route, this summer must be as good as any with the cup run money, the higher than budgeted attendances etc.

Bit surprised that Coulson has been let go by Cambridge, always thought he was alright. Although League 2 perhaps his ceiling.

I won't be surprised if a few of those on the transfer list are still at the Abbey in September - but Josh should get plenty of offers. On a personal level, he probably needs to move away from his comfort zone of friends and family in Cambridge if he is not to go backwards.

Coulson the only genuinely surprising and disappointing one, think he certainly had a role to play and was the best of a bad bunch at the back this year, although that's not much of a compliment. Simpson is clearly good enough but Money doesn't like him (as a player, at least) and I had a feeling that would happen.

The rest, no great loss, no loss in most cases.

I like Coulson(he's our boy after all) but I still have doubts about the lad. Not sure if that's because all the defenders were crap this year.

you're not kidding, huge clear out, much bigger than what I was expecting but I think we are all in agreement that this needed to happen.

Initial thoughts are disappointment for coulson although that maybe the sentimental side of me coming out, still think he's good enough, Elliot is another I'm a little surprised about, especially when both keepers are staying who for me just aren't good enough.

As someone mentioned on our forum, in dickies first summer he had a mass cull(included Tom shaw and Rossi Jarvis who were both well liked) and to his credit, it worked out, only time will tell whether he can repeat the feat.

Hopefully we offer Arnold a permanent deal, what happened to Miller, is he still injured?
