Your forums are a cracking read tonight

"The likes of Gillingham..."
"should be turning Gillingham over comfortably"
"We've got the quality within our Squad to beat some Championship teams let alone relegation battling League One teams!!"
"Shameful, doubled by Gillingham. No excuses for that."

Yup shame Marshy went but looks like we did well getting rid of B Clarke.

To be fair, Marshall has more than played his part in getting us to mid-table.

Clarke made far more of an impact before his injury.

Talking of injuries, two more again yesterday.

roversfan2001 here's a little Leon Best update for you, returned from injury yesterday and came on at half time. He was substituted on 53 minutes after getting injured. He really is turning out to be an inspired signing.

In fairness we still have 5 first teamers out plus a couple with illness, so it's certainly not exclusive to Charlton. I though McCall was going to have to come on yesterday it's getting that bad, I suppose a big difference is however we have one of the top scorers in the league not Leon Best which always helps. With Marshy he was terrible under Parkinson and fantastic under McCall, maybe he can only thrive in certain environments.

We've been hit bad, not really moaning as such despite it being extremely annoying. It was 17 out injured on last count.

I'm not being critical of Marshall, I don't think he's 100% fit. The problem with all these injuries is that we keep trying to rush players back who are inevitably out injured again a few games later.

Our season is as good as over, Roland is selling up so he certainly won't buy anyone (not that he often did anyway), its highly unlikely any new prospective owners will be in place and in a position to sign players before the end of January so we're probably going to be looking at several loan deals at best which simply is not going to be enough to mount a series challenge on the play-offs. I really couldn't care less if we finish bottom half this season as long as we start next season afresh with new owners.

17! Can't Bowyer have a game. With Charlton as with Blackpool and Coventry getting a new owner probably needs to be the priority over on field success atm.

A couple were back for yesterday's game, Forster-Caskey being the perfect example of a player being rushed back, he came off injured again at half time.

Johnnie Jackson who has semi-retired and is part of the management team has had to get his boots back on. Bowyer next probably!

Or perhaps your "boss"? He accused your defenders of being weak against Eaves yesterday. Perhaps the gobby scouser can come on and show them how it's done.:bravo:

What's this about Robinson offering a fan out yesterday? Wouldn't be the first time.

Wasn't there but having seen the highlights and both goals, he's absolutely bang on.

Seen the rumours but don't know what was said to him. Pretty naff atmosphere down there yesterday from what I hear with that incident and our own players being hit with bottles from the home stands.

To be fair most defenders have looked weak against Eaves this season, haven't seen a striker as powerful as him since we had Akinfenwa.

Somewhat comforting to hear that at least we aren't the only club he's stolen a wage from. At least he wasn't on the pitch long enough to put the ball in his own net again.

I think that sums it up pretty well. This season is as good as dead unless something miraculous happens.

Priorities now should be:

Roland Out (always number one priority at any time)
New owners in
Devote remainder of 2017/18 to putting house in order
Make good, solid signings during close season and then go for it in 2018/19

We're 5 points off the playoffs, hardly a f*cking disaster.

Where was we at the end of November?

About 8 points clear of 7th you turd. Think that shows the direction the season is headed.

If you're aiming for promotion, which for a club the size of Charlton should be the aim, then try looking at how far you are off the automatic promotion spots.

Devoting the rest of this season to getting that prick Roland out and getting proper football people in then mounting a challenge next season, like Bobbin' said, is your lot's best hope. I do quite like Charlton, I'm looking forward to visiting you lot later this year, hopefully for a promotion party.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, Roversfan, but Charlton owe Blackburn a debt of gratitude that goes back to the 1980's.

I've been digging again.

Apparently, we got ourselves into a right financial mess because we signed Allan Simonsen from Barcelona, which stretched the club's financial resources to the point where a downward spiral began which led to near bankruptcy.

Cutting a very long and sad story short, after a match at Swansea, the club couldn't even afford to travel to Blackburn for their next fixture and had Rovers not agreed to postpone the match, the League would have expelled us, expunged our record from that season's stats and we would - literally - have gone out of business.

As it was, Blackburn did us a massive favour, a rescue plan proposed by a building company was accepted by the High Court, just a few hours before the bankruptcy deadline and we managed to go on. Phew.

Thanks to Blackburn's willingness to help a fellow club in difficulty, we have a club today. It really was that serious.

So, thank you Rovers. Top club.

That must make you even more embarrassed at the way your club behaved when we were in a similar position.

I still doubt the legitimacy of this and would love to see evidence.

I don't want to go over this again and I won't, but please do not try denying the blatantly obvious.
We all know what went on and if I were a Charlton fan I would have been truly embarrassed by the whole affair, indeed I have a few Charlton fans who are good friends (a downside to the area I live in I'm afraid) and they were mortified by the behaviour of their football club.
Anyway, it was quite a long time ago now, different regime etc. and I have got past the 'hating' Charlton phase. I will never like them, not the way I used to in a strange sort of way, but hate? No, not any more, just a dislike of their past actions.

I started going to Charlton games in 1994 and do not recall any of this.

If this happened after our exile (which I believe Gillingham fans claim) I will always have my reservations as Charlton fans have never been anything but sympathetic towards clubs in trouble. If as claimed, it was just Charlton fans outside Priestfield then yes the individuals are c*** but as a club, Charlton are not responsible.

Having met many Charlton fans over the 23 years I've been following them, I've never met one who has mertioned any embarrassment over anything.

If we're referring to Valley Expess in the early to mid 00s then Gillingham's argument is simply desperate and embarrassing.

Is this little spat something to do with an alleged "fan stealing?" incident going back to 2009..?

I've fished around (as I do), online and in my other resources. All I could find was a thread from the Charlton Life site at about that time.

http://www.forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/26276/p-scally-gillingham-millwall-supporter-chairman

If this is indeed the case, I'll point you to the penultimate post on page 1 which I've snipped:

The reason why Gills fans despise your club so much (and Scally bleats on about you stealing fans) stems mainly from the fact that you had people standing outside our turnstiles handing out fliers offering deals to go watch Charlton at the first game after it was announced that we had gone into administration. They hadn't been there before and didn't come back as you can imagine they received pretty hostile abuse. Can you imagine how you would feel if/when your club go into admin - you turn up at the ground to chuck your money in the collection bucket and there is a represtantive of another club handing you a bit of paper trying to get you to watch another club. Talk about vultures!!!

This obviously led to a pretty heated argument over the next couple of pages.

For what it's worth, I too would find "fan poaching" distasteful and would condemn it, but the feeling I've acquired about football fans is that they tend to stay loyal to their club through thick and thin. If (I emphasise "if") Charlton ever did attempt to poach fans away from Gills, I wouldn't be at all surprised it if was unsuccessful.

Completely unsuccessful I would imagine as they left quite, erm, hastily.

The Valley Express and Kent's Premier Team were a minor issue, which we would have tried if the roles were reversed, however given the above it further irritated us.

Pretty much what I've always said, a few idiots handing out leaflets whilst decent Charlton fans help to raise funds.

There's no way in a million years that anything like those leaflets would have been sanctioned by the club.

You couldn't have tried it, The Valley Express was to offer already Charlton fans cheap travel to The Valley. Surely everyone knows that Charlton are a well supported club throughout Kent. You couldn't bus any Gills fans in from South London because, well there isn't any.

The Valley Express also came from Surrey, Sussex, Essex etc yet I don't recall any Southend or Brighton fans pissing and crying about it.

This is just criminal what this man has done to our football club.

He never had any interest in Charlton Athletic. He's absolutely bled us dry and left us with a decimated squad of players. He's stripped us of almost all our assets, Konsa likely to be the next, put hardly any money back in and is now looking likely to sell the club for almost double what he paid for it despite everything.

Proud of our players and manager, despite the best efforts of this prick we are still giving it a go and sit in the top 6.
