Cox didn't look happy on the opening day. Had a feeling he'd be gone before long. There are clubs in this league who will be all over trying to get him in if they have a below par first 10-15 games.

*cough* Hartlepool *cough*

He wanted to join Hartlepool, but his buy-out clause was £100k. But his main gripe was not being backed in January for a promotion push, and then the chairman basically saying no to a lot of his targets over the last month or so.
Without being too cynical, this puts the Hartlepool fella under a lot of pressure, because his replacement is now out of work and available for free.

He has a career win ratio of 16% apparently, and hasn't managed for 8 years. This is the footballing equivalent of chopping off one's own gonads and feeding them to the seagulls.
Not doing too bad so far!

I think he was duped by claims that Barrow would be Going For It™ again this summer when clearly they didn't.

He was Pools first choice but the compensation was way too much, we don't have the sort of clout to sack off a manager an appoint another, we are still paying off a manager from last season. Harrison is under pressure but I'm certain he'll be here for the long run, we keep sacking managers hoping it'll change our fortunes but we're never any better off.

We're paying off both Hignett and Jones. Not a pot to piss in unfortunately.

Harrison must be given time for several reasons. Firstly, he does know how to win things (albeit with the biggest team and best budget in Wales), secondly, we can't afford to sack him and thirdly, our already tarnished hiring and firing reputation will just completely go down the pan, if it hasn't already. Even if he turns out to be a disaster and we get sucked in to relegation battles again, he simply has to be given a chance.

Cox is not in the running its safe to say.

I'm struggling to fit Cox into another NL side at the minute.

Hartlepool are unlikely to get rid of Harrison anytime soon having just appointed him, Orient aren't going to get rid of theirs. Likewise Wrexham who have a new-ish manager, Tranmere won't go down the Cox route if they got rid of Mellon, which I don't think they will and I can't see Cox taking on a PT side either. Eastleigh would have made sense had Hill not recently returned.

Maybe Chester? But if he doesn't think he got the required backing from Barrow's Chairman, he'll not get it at Chester either.

After Torquay and now Barrow is it a case of Cox empties the cheque book asap and then leaves the club when a newly replenished cheque book fails to arrive immediately?

Hartlepool won't stand by Harrison if they fail to improve.

Nah, I genuinely think he's been made big promises at both clubs and then realised that they couldn't keep their word. It seems that Cox has put up with a lot of bullshit, including people being brought in over his head, and being told that his star player and captain wouldn't be getting a new contract, but being told via the radio that the chairman's not giving him anymore money seemed to have been the final straw.

An excellent manager and coach (apparently), he also had a lot of players playing purely for him - should really be getting a job in League 2, which he's turned down during his time with us.

Agreed, I just can't see them changing so soon after appointing him and into the season. Maybe December time, but not now.

Not if Woking lose to Wrexham, Torquay and Macclesfield this week.
He's not going to go to Woking, though.

Can't see it.

McCarthy does look on his last legs though, failure to beat Macc on Monday could well be the end of the line. There were boo's throughout the Sutton game last week and he was arguing with fans during the game. That can't go on.

Hasn't he asked for 23 games to turn it round?

Yeah.

Can't see him lasting unless he drastically changes his approach. Relationship with the fans is past the point of no return anyway in my opinion.

Chipmunx will be sobbing into his half-and-half Barrow vs Tranmere FA Cup souvenir scarf reading that.

Would a return to Torquay be a possibility?

Lots of talk this end. Not sure how I feel if it comes off to be honest. His style of football is utter shit and we haven't any money to chuck about. Unless, of course, GI open their purse now they are getting their own man in charge.

Still frustrated over Nicholson going to be honest.

"I'd like four seasons to turn it around please..."

On Cox's style; when he's had the right players available, and under our new 5-3-2 system, we've been playing decent football. Away from home there is a lot of long-ball stuff, so that's what most people see, but his style is no different to 90% of other managers at this level. I've read that Nicholson has put a good squad together, so maybe he could do similar with them, but he'll be wanting close to £1,000 p/w. Is that within reason for Torquay?

Absolutely no idea. We've just paid Nicholson half his year salary, and probably will pay Herrera off too. Seeing as GI don't appear to want to spend much, it's a bold choice if they do get someone like Cox in - could end up costing a six-figure sum.

Mentioned as one of three/four candidates. Martin Allen, Ronnie Moore and Cox also mentioned.

None of which really excite me - but I'm almost past caring now.

Martin Allen would probably be a good short term bet. Anything more than a season and the novelty wears off with him.

He struggles to fit anywhere.

What about him moving up to League Two to take over as manager of Crawley or Chesterfield when they inevitably sack their manager after being rooted at the bottom of the league for a few weeks?
