Southport have appointed Alan Lewer as the club’s new First Team Manager.

He has a career win ratio of 16% apparently, and hasn't managed for 8 years. This is the footballing equivalent of chopping off one's own gonads and feeding them to the seagulls.

Our chairman was forced to put out a statement about the Hartlepool-Cox shenanigans, as the ridiculous rumours got way out of hand. As if Cox had agreed a deal but the only snag was compensation... Too many have fallen for that, the media included.

Basically, to paraphrase the statement, Hartlepool wanted Cox, chairman said he won't stand in the way of anyone, Cox wasn't that impressed, and is more bothered about our pre-season.
Simple.

That Hartlepool appointment screams disaster to me.

I suppose it depends what side of the fence your on, I reckon Pools were very interested until they hit the brick wall of a 'high five figure' compo fee and they swiftly backed out of talks knowing they don't have that kind of clout to throw about on a manager, I think it would've been a decent appointment for Pools and a bit of a step up for Cox, but it is what it is.

Turn back the clock and I'd bet our chairman would quiet happily pay a high 5 figure compo, instead of giving McNamara a massive budget to waist on crap from conference north and Scotland.
Hartlepool look like us a year ago, hope for yourselves he actually can spot good players from Welsh league.
McNamara was a joke of an appointment who knew nothing about league football in England never mind conference.
Does Hartlepool manager only have knowledge of Welsh league?
Plus what is the standard of this league.

The thing is, regardless of what is being reported by the Hartlepool newspaper, there is absolutely no way they got to a negotiating stage with Cox without realising there would be a fee to pay. I mean, any Barrow fan could tell you that he is well-paid and has two years left on his deal, but also are we supposed to believe that nobody thought to ask earlier down the line?
Cox just didn't fancy it, and to be honest, it is a sideways step purely because he is part-way through a little project here and would have to start again. He'll only leave for a league team, I'm fairly certain of that.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't be all that impressed if I went for an interview and learned that there's hardly any money available, an ex-chairman that's holding the club to ransom and the club in complete disarray from top to bottom. Barrow is an easier job, yes maybe we're a bit bigger, bigger crowds and so on but to be fair their team may well be better than ours and he's got cash to play with and a highly secure job. On the other hand, we get through managers as often as an incontinent two year old gets through nappies.

The expectations are high to get promoted back and frankly speaking, if you don't get promised the resources then the aims are unrealistic.

Anyway, who says he's taking a pay cut? That'd just show how far down we've slipped if we're paying less than TNS.
Hmmm.... There is just a slight chance that Master D was taking the piss.

The thing is though we just don't know what sort of budget Pools have, Pam spoke well and pretty honestly at the trust meeting, they're currently in the process of chasing the cockney c*** from the club with his tail between his legs, income from player sales and season tickets will stay in the club and not paid out to those waiting for their slice and we are miles upon miles away from financial difficulty, all came from the horses mouth, we can only take her on her word, whilst remaining cautious and building on the work started by HUST.

Harrison is a big gamble but has earned his chance at a crack in the English league, we've ran the gambit of manager's recently, from first time to experienced they've all been shite, he really can't do any worse than fat Dave did last year.

Yup it's a good article and I agree with most of it, we've been a non league club for only a hot minute and they've given us more coverage on our dodgepot owner than anyone ever did, I'm not so stupid as to believe Pam Duxbury is here for the good of the club but I think a safe pair of hands on the finances is what the club needs right now, she claimed at the trust meeting that there were/are buyers interested but doesn't want to have one man in charge of the club again because we could find ourselves in this shitty position again in a few years time and believes fan ownership be it partial or full is the way forward in the future.

Missed the trust meeting as I was away with work. All that sounds positive. Was well impressed with Harrison's interview, although I turned the screen away as I can't abide his hair.

We won't have a massive budget but I hope it'll be competitive. We need at the very least 5/6 in.

First casualty of 2017/18 is Kevin Nicholson of Torquay. I thought he'd done a reasonably good job down at Plainmoor given the circumstances.

I know they havent had a good start to the season, but their first 2 games were against playoff teams from last season, they then went to Gateshead (not an easy place to go at the best of times) and played Boreham Wood at home. Ok the Boreham Wood result wasnt great but 1 point from the other 3 games was hardly the end of the world so it seems a little harsh to sack him so early.

Wonder how long it will be before Josh Gowling falls out with whoever the new manager is and pisses off somewhere else?

He'd already had a telling off from Nicholson for calling someone a smack head on twitter and Nicholson rang him up and bollocked him and made him delete it, seems the boy will never learn.

I see the Torquay journo's are highlighting Mark Yates to become their next boss, and they've not done their homework.

He not long ago took the managers post of our new U23 side.
Might be a clause to let him leave if a senior side come in, but everyone was kept in the dark about the ins & outs and the agreements of it all!

Far too early for sacking your manager, Nicholson hasn't done a bad job in my eyes considering what's he's got to work with at Torquay. Are they even still a full time club?

Seems quite harsh considering they've played 3 of the better sides in the league so far. The loss to Boreham Wood is a bad one though admittedly.

Barrow and Paul Cox have "parted company". Somewhat unexpected no?

Not a sacking, but Paul Cox has resigned from Barrow.

100% definitely a breakdown with the board over signing players.

I thought that.

Seems to have been a weird summer at Barrow.

Shame for Barrow because you can diss his style of play all you like, he's a good non-league manager.

Cox didn't look happy on the opening day. Had a feeling he'd be gone before long. There are clubs in this league who will be all over trying to get him in if they have a below par first 10-15 games.
