You might be right on that in terms of possession. Personally I think dominating possession is utterly worthless if you don’t have an end product. Sometimes that style can be very slow and dull to watch also.

Don’t think last season there was more than a handful of games we had more of the ball but were just able to pick teams off on the counter.
Yep, that's what I said in my original post. This division is about being ruthless, possession and having chances is pointless if you can't put the ball in the back of the net - which we can't!

I've seen us so far this season... I wouldn't put us in the top 2 best anything just yet
I know you lost a few key players, but I thought you'd recruited well - do you think they just need time to gel?

Again what an odd thing to say.

Has Tractor Boys been actively recruiting bolshy ipswich fans
Why is it odd? The stats don't lie. We're still not very good though.

sorry mate, you are correct :)
Expect that will be max allocation this year as ground has restrictions on capacity still. We had the same when we used it as a home end in the play off semi.

We’ve got a very good league record at the Abbey Stadium, and I can imagine the squad is massively confident after recent results.

A lot will depend on how we react if we go a goal behind, which will happen sooner or later. I’m sure we will start well and hopefully the likes of Nombe and Brown can create plenty. Cambridge are a very good team though so a point would be decent. Sam Smith is someone who will have another great season and the win against MK on day 1 was impressive.

1-1

Port Vale away. Should win but you never know with Bolton.
If we were up to speed with a couple more strikers in the door, then we might have given you a game.

Unfortunately, like others have said, we're basically treating August as a preseason, getting players back to fitness and hoping we pick up the odd point here and there. It's a dangerous tactic in my book as I feel like we need to start reasonably well otherwise you can quickly spiral.

Think it will be a comfortable Bolton win. They seem to have built a pretty strong league 1 side and we're weaker than we were in league 2 at this moment.

I mean on the eye, not that we're any good - we just both make a lot of passes and look to dominate possession.

Last season we were the top 2 for possession, and this season so far too.
re check that stat

Two new signings tomorrow… looks like experienced league one including striker!

Looking ahead to Saturday Bolton have clearly made a good start and will be the favourites. We need to go out and play with a lot more aggression, that’s when we are at our best. Thinking back to Exeter that was disappointing more than anything how passive we were. The moment the game kicks off I want to see us flying in with the tackles or try and pick a fight with one or two of them just to try and get the game played on our terms.

See what happens today i guess, we could be a completely different animal if the right signings are made and starting to look like the side we've expected us to be, looks like Wilson is still a few weeks off so need one of todays to be a striker, who is fit enough to start (so ideally one attached to a club).

Be a tough game but one I'd usually hope we'd be up for at least to give it a good go.

My worry is in DC press conference he still talks of hard weeks to come as we get to where we want to be which sounds like he is writing the next couple off to me!

Just seen Ellis Harrison has signed for Port Vale for an in undisclosed sum. Very surprised and disappointed as I thought the guy had done pretty good for us. For you Vale fans you have a more than decent player and wish him well Shrimpers away on Saturday, a proper derby and great memories of when these two teams competed in the old Lancashire Combination - invariably Morecambe came out top and were always a top side. Fleetwood full of confidence after 2 successive home wins
so will fancy their chances. A draw wont be a bad result but going for a 2-1 away win

Can see us struggling to get into any rhythm as Vale's pitch is very narrow, ball seems to be out for a throw-in every second which gets highly frustrating. Win by any means, it can be as ugly as Gethin Jones's scuffed winner last time I don't care! :D

Our pitch is one of the widest... 5 yards wider than Bolton's.

Sounds like we finally have midfield options back for Saturday. Thank god.

Cue 4-0 loss

If memory serves from that game the reason for that was the pitch had cut up quite bad and was bobbling all over the place. Won’t be a problem at this time of year nor indeed will Burslems very own microclimate which tends to be more noticeable deeper into the season. During the lockdown season we played Morecambe at the end of it and while the rest of the country was experiencing some half decent weather our game got delayed due to a great big snowstorm around VP.

Think it’s now over 50 league games since we got given a penalty so we are surely due at least one.

Think you may be in it first 30 then you could be over run. Saturday with the temp set to be 35 will find your players who have only played 1/2 games since last May out. Can see them blowing out of there backsides as we Bring the likes of Sadlier,Bodvarrson and maybe Charles on after 60 mins

Evatt already stated our forwards will not be playing 90 mins this season and he will keep them fresh.

You could try and mix it with us by targeting the likes of Bradley and Dapo, but we have one or two like Santos, Mj Williams, Dempsey and Bakayoko who can mix it and also look after players who are targeted

Saying that Port Vale have done ok against us down the years

It’s always possible and I’d edge to you being right but one thing will say is since DC has been manager if we have a shocker which our last league game was we usually follow it up with a much better effort the next game. Defensively and in midfield I expect us to compete, we are more than well stocked in those areas and they’ve had decent playing time now so there’s no excuses from them. It’s up top without Wilson we are still light where tiredness will come into it.

The heat will make it so it’s impossible to play a high paced game for any period of time for either team.

As our manager said, he is quite excited by our squad. With everyone fit, I agree with him and I think we will come strong but I do think he's writing off these first few games to be honest as I reckon at least half our first choice eleven are either unfit or out injured.

Good time to play us really. We've signed a couple today but not sure whether they will go straight into the team.

Our one hope is that Bolton underestimate us and we come out with intent. If we play like we're beat before the first whistle, like against Exeter, then it could get messy.

We were doing double and triple sessions in Portugal in 35 degree heat in pre season so I’m hoping that pays off for us over the weekend. Thank god for 5 subs though. I’m not really sure how it will go… If we do turn up and play like we did against Wycombe and for the last 60-70 mins against Salford after we conceded then I really do fancy us. But anyone can beat anyone in this league
