Do you ever think seeing players of that calibre at Fratton Park and the memories from that era were worth the downfall?

I think most fans would say "yes". The collapse has been painful but those seven seasons eating at the top table were pretty great. We suffered plenty of batterings but also plenty of unlikely, famous wins. E.g. the crazy (and extremely lucky) FA Cup quarter-final win at Old Trafford, beating the team that would go on to win the Champions League that year. We came out of that match suddenly as favourites to win the Cup. And then we went and actually did it!

We may never reach the Prem again, so it's great to have those memories.

I think you should enjoy those days at the top - I used to work with a Birmingham fan and they were relegated the same season they won the Carling Cup. He went to the final, and then went to their away Europa League games. I asked him what was better a couple of years back - struggling in the Prem for another couple of years, or winning the Carling Cup and going down. You can guess what his answer was.

As football fans, especially lower league ones, we have far more downs than ups, so we have to appreciate the ups when we get them. Cheltenham are struggling at the moment, but I won't forget that on Tuesday night we play Bolton at home and not Baldock!!

As a Wednesday fan spending 20 odd years outside the top flight I still consider myself fortunate to be old enough to remember my team actually be decent.

At 10 year old I watched us, then a 2nd tier club and about to get promoted, win the League Cup against Manchester United, we followed that up the next couple of years with finishing 3rd best in the country and bottling 2 Cup finals in the inaugural season of the PL where we finished 7th as the games stacked up.

I got to be a ball boy at a UEFA cup game as well, the only blip was the European ban cost us a couple of other seasons in it.

The kids following us nowadays have only seen us being shit.

Anyway onto the match at Vale.

Didn't realise how bad our record against is against Vale and at Vale Park, just the one win in the last 7 visits, granted it was our last league trip there.

Will be a tough game against a side who have adapted well following promotion but we have to win these games if we want to be up there come May time.

We follow this with a lovely midweek jaunt to Plymouth.

These are the games we should relish and as you say when we are playing in front of 100 away fans and have 4000 rattling around VP in the arse end of league two seemed so far away.

It is a degree of a "Free hit" no one will expect us to win and I am sure Wednesday will expect to turn up and take the points so nothing to lose, should be a cracking atmosphere as well, usually in the past when a side like Wednesday have come down we've had 4-5000 homes fans in the place and it should be good to see it with 7-8000 Vale fans and a full end away actually generating the atmosphere it should.

Would have been better if we had the Hamil as a home end still as we saw against Swindon and one of the reasons the move is good is that currently the away end has the best acoustics.

As long as we put in a shift and give it a good go I will be happy, ultimately apart from us maybe having a better manager everything else is in Wednesday's favour tomorrow in terms of advantages so see how it goes.

These are not the games that will determine our season so if we lose meh, if we draw it will be an excellent point and if we win it will be a massive boost confidence wise. At home on our day we are capable but will be extremely tough and we would have to get most things spot on.

Derby at home where the 2 best managers in the lge go head to head, 3 tough, competitive games last year v Rotherham and I’m expecting a tough game tomorrow.

I was more confident when rosenior was in charge, I fancied our high press against derby’s passing back line but now warne is in charge and knowing how he likes his teams to play it’s made me think otherwise.

Derby should get 3pts no worries but bonner will certainly get us up for this, just a case of whether derby’s quality shines through.

We’re desperately lacking at lb and are missing iredale big time, dunk has been a fantastic servant but gets found out all to often at this level, haven’t seen enough of haunstrop to form an opinion yet.

A couple of additional injuries since our last league game.

Bishop went off injured a couple of games ago and is out for a few weeks, but the lesser spotted Danny Mandroui was back in full training on Monday, so perhaps he'll make the squad. No Joe Walsh, Lewis Montsma Jay Benn or Jacob Davenport either.

There's probably a couple of decisions for Kennedy to make - Sanders of Oakley Boothe to place Bishop and House or Hopper up front.

We'll probably need the front three to score at least two to take anything from the game!

For the first time in a while, we've got players that can actually change things from the bench, so if we stay level for as long as possible then you never know.

As I've said previously, this is division 3 football, so even those with the mega bucks won't be Brazil 1970, they will have mistakes in them and I understand they are shaky at the back if you get at them.

I still rate the football we played under Harvey as the most entertaining I have seen since I started following Rovers...which admittedly wasn't too long before he joined...at least when Fleets had the ball at his feet there was anticipation that he might score, now I worry about where our next goal might come from!

I genuinely don’t know why he keeps doing that kind of stuff. Just makes a rod for his own back especially with how their results have gone so far. It came right for him last season but then he had the ultimate L2 cheat code in Elliott Anderson which won’t be the case this time.
