It was a great finish, but could we have closed him down more?

Agree we've come a long way since Jacko left, but even if Vaughan had stayed fit, you have to wonder about business in the January transfer window. There's a lot of points still to play for and have to hope for some rest and tactical adjustments to make the most of our longest break in a while.

As with all goals, more could have been done. I think that’s being too critical though.

Too early to be writing off our January transfer business, although I would of preferred us holding on to one of either Payne or Ferrier.

I watched an actual, entertaining, keenly-contested football match. I’m in shock.

It's hard to take seriously comments such as 'we're the worst side in the league'

You can only go by current form. Over the last 13 games we’ve been the worst team in the league, that’s a fact. 6 points out of a possible 39.

Are you just mocking us for being shit now? I know a few people on this site think you're a WUM but I never understood why, maybe we'd just not seen this side of you before.

Who's mocking you? I was very complimentary to your lot's second half performance. Re. people thinking I'm a wum, I'm afraid that's something beyond my control and anyway people are free to think and believe what they want to. You know, just like some people on here think you're Carver?

You said and I quote ''Cambridge have dropped from Premier League standard to merely Championship standard.'' I call that grade A wumming.

The good news is I’ve once again took another financial windfall from the bookmakers crazy idea that Carlisle were favourites to win this match.

£400+ from the Cambridge win. It’s like taking sweets from a baby.
You didnt really, did you?

On the topic of betting, though completely off topic for this thread, I've just put a bet on Wales to beat Mexico. I couldn't understand why Wales are 7-2 and Mexico 17-20.

Only a pound though...

What a strange team we have and what a strange season it’s been. How we’ve ended up this season in a relegation battle I’ll never know.

Typical Port Vale. I’ve been saying it for every year of my life.

Injuries and fitness. No surprise we were excellent first 10, lost key players on and off for months now they are back we look back to the side that looked promotion material in September/October.

Hopefully with the huge investment coming during the next few months on top of what already has been we can finish strong and try and have a real go next season.

Walsall’s manager has said he’s absolutely delighted with their draw today, he must be really easily fucking pleased.

They were playing for the draw most of the second half, draw better for them than us

I thought it was a decent game today against a very attack minded Mansfield side.

We looked fresher after the recent rest and rotation, but goalscoring remains an issue for us in the absence of Vaughan. I thought we edged the game in terms of general quality and chances created, and if Vaughan was playing we would have scored a second to kill the game off. If he is back for the final five or six matches of the season I think we can make the automatic places, but without him it will be tough.

We are up to third place, which is a remarkable achievement considering our absolutely disastrous start to the season under Mike Jackson, with only two wins in the first eleven games.

Two huge games coming up against Cheltenham and Cambridge over the Easter weekend.

You never hear of hyperbole? How is describing Cambridge as being like a team from the top two divisions wumming?

It just seems somewhat unbelievable that someone could have watched that match and have anything good to say about our performance.

That's just reminded me of the acca I put on last night - just checked and they were the only one to lose. 230 quid that would've been. Not been a good day :hb:

Refreshing to hear Yems interview, very honest and gave us plenty of credit rather than full of excuses some managers give.

For soft touch Port Vale of the past few years to hear a manager say “we got bashed up” shows the improvement Clarke is bringing in.

Crawley have a few injuries I think and Craig up against Dave was going to be difficult pace wise, we swapped the strikers around so he would be up against him.

After Colchester’s superb commentary last week, the Crawley ones were equally decent today too, complimentary and unbiased.

From the horrors of Dickhead Dave as he’s known now from our Pod, to the boring Salford one they are getting better!

Southern ones seem less bias in fairness and more professional!

Still despite the good win as with last week I’m just not getting Theo Robinson at all, he gets into the positions but just looks half arsed and had three or four chances today, although the header off the bar was unlucky.

Great to see Nathan Smith put his shoddy form from November-January behind him as well, superb strike for a centre half on the turn for the second and he’s back to one of the best at this level again.

Getting in Andy Crosby seems to have had a big effect too. Not sure if we will keep him as he works usually under Adkins so may go there or stick with Northern Ireland.

The big turnaround though seems to be Manny Oyeleke returning to the side, the midfield just has so much more legs about it with him, it’s gutting we’ve had two years of him just not fit because when he is we look much better.

Hopefully we can keep the run going now and rattle up a few more results before a big summer with expected heavy investment on and off the pitch under Flickers and Daz.

great win even if there was a bit of january-vale circus like defending from crawley.

i'm agreed Valefan16 on theo, i was mre than happy to give him a chance when he signed again but im not sure exactly what he offers. though i do think he was ok today.

ive got to say it's been pretty shocking to hear the state of the playing infrastructure from Flitcroft/Clarkes interviews, no medicals, no training history, no data to review. hopefully manny can really benefit from the investment into that side of things because if there's any chance at all that he can stay fit then he runs the show in this league.

clarke has been pretty great since he came in to be honest, there were positive signs in the first few games even if results weren't there and like you say, having Worrall and manny back makes a huge difference.

if we can get a respectable amount of wins from our last 8 games i think it gives cause for cautious optimism for next summer, although i am a deluded fool so who knows.

and yeah, their commentary team is up there. actually seemed keen to discuss vale for the benefit of vale listeners which was good to see, and quite fair calling the game.

Not as bad as one I had years ago, 10 team accumulator and 9 won and only Preston v Crewe let me down, and Preston missed an injury time penalty to win it.

The toughest part to take for Jamille Matt having broken fingers is not the pain, or being out for the season, but that he can no longer use that hand to shush empty stadiums after he’s dived to win and then score a penalty.

The poor lamb.

Hello people, I'm a Carlisle fan.

I think our bad form right now is just a blip and going by yesterdays game against Cambridge we were just so unlucky in the end and I'd say it was the better team who lost.

However with that good performance there's now hope we can at least get right back into the play off mix where we belong.

Keep the faith! There are still plenty of games left with 3 of them in hand on some teams.

How come he went off on a stretcher with a hand injury?

If we’d had Manny available we’d be up there now, Joyce, Manny and Conlon together takes us up a few levels and no surprise when he’s fit we look a different animal, oddly the only games we was able to play a big part in during the November to March poor run... Bolton 3 Vale 6 and Vale 5 Southend 1.

I’d give him another year to work under the new system with the injuries/fitness and see.

Lots off off field excitement to be had with Flitcroft, forking out for Clarke and putting in the structure we’ve badly missed with fitness coaching, stats and Crosby and Rooney into the back room.

Adding in the new training centre away from Vale Park and sports college and the long term vision is coming along. Seems to be some rumours we might be heavily investing in a smaller but higher quality squad now the cap has gone as well so staying up is critical and hopefully we won’t be held back by the lack of infrastructure next season.

Signing players without medicals was absolutely ludicrous! No shock since the fitness coach was replaced as well that we’ve gone from looking knackered and having all our key players out to pumping out high pressing football with big players actually getting fit for more than a half of football.

Really feels a missed opportunity this season, when fit our squad has shown it’s one of the better ones but such poor back room set ups by Askey has killed our season. This league has been so poor this season as well that it’s a missed chance.

To be fair I don’t know if you saw it but I’d want to lay down if I saw my hand like that! Probably the shock.

Anyone who has been given oxygen automatically has to be removed via a stretcher in case they fall over.
It would have been the Doctors call

Aw come on man... clearly taking the piss.

Until maybe two weeks ago our league position still looked good on paper, in that if you didn't take form into account you'd think we had a solid chance of making the playoffs, but now it doesn't even look like that. Win our games in hand and we'd still be outside the playoffs. We only have one game in hand on anyone that matters, three on Cambridge and Stevenage which are both irrelevant.

The collapse has been astounding. 2nd of February we were 2nd in the league with four games in hand and only three points behind leaders Cambridge and three games in hand on a host of teams behind us. We'd been top before our season was interrupted. We had the best defence and the second best goal difference in the league and had more wins than anyone else (in fewer games). We were top of the form table with six wins from our last eight.

Since then we have played 13 games, won once, drawn three and lost nine, and dropped to 14th in the table, only have one game in hand on most teams but are nine points from the playoffs. Are bottom of the form table, only the bottom three have lost more games than us, have the leakiest defece in that period and now a goal difference of a measly +3
