I'm confused I thought Bradford were playing their reserves against us in the cup not today?

Today has made it much easier to sit on the ‘we’re a good side’ hill that I’m willing to die on.

Absolutely dominated Bradford today, 2-1 flattered them.

Usual shite from us, typical performance that we've seen on the road over the last six years.

Nothing in the game until the first goal and then it was one way traffic.

Improved performance from the Alex against a very, very ordinary looking Bromley side. They scored a well worked opener, but then proceeded to barely test us for a 2nd. We had lots of the ball, but couldn't create much until we took off some of our 7 defensive players, got some attackers on and had a proper go.

Finally scored, first from a set piece from Demetriou and then Chris Long bagging the winner. Massive result to get us up and running, need to build on that over the next few weeks.

Got Oasis tickets yesterday, beat Bradford in the league today, have I time warped back to the 1990’s?

Did you manage to get them before the 'in demand' tickets started showing up?

I ended up paying £300 for mine via Ticketmaster - not ideal but was prepared to pay up to £500.

Solid from us today..Fleetwood tidy on ball with little threat up front.. Any other year and we would have dropped points here

Fantastic start to the season considering the injuries we're having to deal with. Was nice just to see us being able to name 7 subs today. We still had a right back in centre mid and a centre back playing left wing.

Omari Patrick looks to be some pick up. His 2nd goal was some strike and got back plenty as well.

Carlisle looked poor. Their only tactic seemed to be get it to the wingback and put a ball in the box, which our defence ate up all day. Adu-Adjei was a threat for them in the first half but seemed to go quiet in the second.

4 unbeaten for us now and a nice break to hopefully get some injured players back fit.

On another note, the referee in our game was hilarious. Blew at the sign of any contact and ended up giving 41 fouls.

Won't read too much into it because it's August. But that is 100% the type of game we would have lost last season

I have to say the ref was shocking for both sides.
Sometimes difficult when you lost to be critical of the officials but he deserves some serious flack after we took the points. Some of his decisions on fouls were insane, he didn’t have a clue what was going on.

Having said that I thought Bradford were very poor from start to finish. Smallwood was a whinging lightweight who constantly got caught in possession, Kavanagh? How the hell is he a pro footballer based on his 45 mins.

Grimsby fully deserved the points and the score line massively flattered Bradford

Our worst performance so far! we were hanging on second half but defended well and a clean sheet, it was a good strike by aaron wildig to win the game but apart from cbr missing a sitter we created nothing else, we need to improve next week when we play a much better team in port vale.

We were atrocious. Smallwood has improved this season but I still think he's a liability in possession and Kavanagh has regressed massively since the end of last season. You lot cut us open far too many times in that second half.

Enjoyed today’s game, proper grit and backs against the wall stuff especially after Ehmer was sent off. Think the ref was evening things out with their red. Couldn’t have complained if Chessie left with a point or more, but that’s football. We’ll play much better and lose this season, same can be said in reverse for chesterfield.

No idea why we didn’t get a penalty if there’s anything to complain about, but the ref was shite for both sides. Where do these numpties come from?

Why are you being such a knob about it, what has any Chesterfield fan said about it that’s so bad, they’ve just said that they feel they should have won, no need to be an absolute tit about it.

Okay, I’ve just about calmed down now after watching one of the most frustrating games I’ve seen in a long, long time, so here’s some of my thoughts on today.

Credit where it’s due to Gillingham because they won the game & they played with plenty of grit and determination throughout especially second half, but we have absolutely dominated that game for probably 75 / 80 minutes in total, at a place that’s been very tough to go to for any team given their record of being unbeaten there since Boxing Day. Gills had a spell from when they scored where they got on top of us a bit, and almost went 2 up shortly after when the goal rocked us a bit, but other than that it’s an absolute backs against the walls job from them. Did find it odd that their fans were berating the ref at times, despite the officials not awarding a goal for us from Oldaker’s free kick that went over the line & then ruling out our very well worked goal for offside when it looks like he’s clearly on from the replays. His decision to send Dunkley off was pathetic as well, not even a foul never mind a second yellow! (game was done at this point but now he misses the Grimsby game next week ffs). Very clear he was desperate to even things up after the earlier red.

Standouts for us were Markanday & Daley-Campbell who were both excellent throughout down the right side, caused Gills no end of issues down that side. The former is going to be some player for us once he’s settled in properly, it’s clear to see his ability is probably much higher than L2 as Blackburn fans had suggested at the time. The latter who came into this season as a bit of an unknown despite good pedigree at Arsenal/Leicester, has the potential to be a very good player, still extremely inexperienced with only a handful of professional appearances to his name but he has all the tools to be a top attacking full back at this level. Dobra & Berry weren’t as effective as they usually are today (Credit to Gills again there for some of the off ball work they were doing to stop them) but still had some decent moments during the game. Grigg was ineffective in all honesty, really struggled today, just one of them games that every striker has with nothing seemingly dropping for him and the Gills centre backs marshalled him well. What was evident today is that the mounting injuries we have (just the 8 players currently out…) severely limits our options from the bench, and Cook said as much post match. If we had the likes of Colclough, Mandeville or Madden to bring off the bench today I think Gillingham would have found that extremely tough to contain us in the latter stages especially with just the 10 men. Instead what happened today, was that our subs actually disrupted our flow a bit and that’s probably down to the current players who are coming off the bench being a level below what they’re coming on for, which will be a different story once we get bodies back.

Final thoughts are, that that’s the 4th game back at this level where we’ve been the better team, and the 3rd that we’ve completely dominated so got to stay positive even if it is annoying we haven’t picked up more points. We keep these performance levels up and we’ll be just fine I reckon… onto the next!

Get used to it because that’s basically a description of his time with us

Got to admit I'm just not sure what the plan is for us to win games at the moment. Other teams in this league you at least get a grasp of what type of team they are whether direct / possession based etc but we seem to be none of it, just a collection of individuals. Whatever it is he needs to sort it out as one thing he can't say is he hasn't been backed. As I say though take nothing away from yourselves, think you controlled proceedings a lot better than we did.

Was going to come on here and absolutely fillet the team and manager for todays performance, but there’s no point.

It’s cost the manager and backroom staff their jobs. That says enough.

Thought we played really well today ,Bradford a much better matchup for us than Notts and if you watched today you would think we are a decent side .

Bradford not that good , missed Sarcevic I think they will be play-offs probably just didn't play well and a bad matchup for them .
Icelandic lad is decent .

Will be a much tougher matchup for us next week against a Paul Cook team and I don't expect much from that but thereafter Barrow and Bromley at home who should provide a decent opportunity for points and a relatively decent start to deter the Artell haters from too much abuse(doubtful).
