We tried that last season - look at the players we've let go this summer.

Not really - we only signed one player from the Conference last summer. Most were from below the Conference, and none of them worked out.

To be fair, our entire team were basically "the best players in the Conference" considering how easily we pissed it the previous season. Most of the ones who stood out in the Conference were good enough at League Two level - Tyler, Sumo, Griffiths, Smith, Cullen, Gutts/Lawless/Pelly when fit (not often enough obviously). The ones who were decent to average in the Conference hit a wall hard and clearly weren't good enough stepping up - Franks, Lacey, Robinson, Whalley, Wall etc.

Top Conference players can easily adjust, but they do need to be the top ones, not just average players down there because there is a definite step up in class. You really do need to compliment it with proven league quality too - it's no coincidence that arguably our two best players last season (certainly up until about February or March when form/fitness nosedived along with everyone else) were Doyle and Wilkinson, both established FL players.

I am concerned about Yeovil. Several years ago, there was a Yeovil Town in the division above us and we looked up to them because they were one of Somerset's bigger teams (maybe not in the top three but certainly in the top ten) and we were down in L1. We even loaned them Wayne Henessey because they could offer him the big matchday experience we just couldn't.

But it seems that Yeovil Town may have been taken hostage by people who are happy for them to be taken down to non-league. Is it true that Yeovil may now turn out in tangerine strips?

So, more seriously, wtf has happened to Yeovil? At least Carlisle and Tranmere seem to have some kind of brakes fitted to slow their slide into oblivion, Yeovil seem to be pioneering cordless bungee-jumping and accelerating into the abyss.

I don't think our situation is that bad, it's not great but I'd say we've done quite a lot to stop the slide this summer. We've cleared out the considerable amount of deadwood at the club, and imo bought pretty well so far. The club has relaunched their youth system, the first bit of long-term planning the board has done in years. And we have in Sturrock a manager who has a proven track record of re-building teams when they are at their lowest, as well as one of the best records in the lower leagues.

I'm cautiously optimistic that we won't get relegated again, at least we only have to be better than two teams this time.

Pleased to hear this. It's just I noticed that many of the L2 guys have predicted you are going to finish very very low down in the table.
Always good to hear a club is investing in youth teams. Stops the kids hanging around internet chat rooms. Good luck, anyway. It's a bit of a hike, but I might even come over and watch a game.

The most, umm, unusual prediction so far. Unsurprisingly, I am shocked to see us at the bottom of the pile bg - is that based on your hatred of us or do you genuinely not rate our chances?

I would be fairly surprised to see Cambridge finish so lowly too, and I definitely don't anticipate Dagenham, Barnet or Yeovil finishing that high in the division either. You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but I am definitely intrigued by your table!
