The most, umm, unusual prediction so far. Unsurprisingly, I am shocked to see us at the bottom of the pile :)bg:) - is that based on your hatred of us or do you genuinely not rate our chances?

I would be fairly surprised to see Cambridge finish so lowly too, and I definitely don't anticipate Dagenham, Barnet or Yeovil finishing that high in the division either. You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but I am definitely intrigued by your table!

If his table is even remotely close by the end of the season, I will definitely give up on football and follow some other sport instead. Like table tennis for instance.

There's a really good feel around Home Park at the moment, the new manager, Derek Adams, has been a real hit with the fans so far, he's hosted a very well received Q and A and will host another next week, he's moved down to Plymouth permanently from Ross County (from the most northerly outpost in the UK to the most southerly) and appears to be really embracing the club and community, something Sheridan unfortunately never did, it didn't help that he lived in Leeds while managing us.

The squad isn't all there but we've made some very tidy acquisitions

Gary Sawyer - from Leyton Orient
Josh Simpson - From Crawley
Graham Carey - From Ross County
Gregg Wylde - From St Mirren
Harim Boateng - Loaned from Crystal Palace
Jake Jervis - From Ross County (who has bagged 5 goals in our 3 pre season games so far)

For the first time in a long time, the fan base are actually positive and excited going into a new season.

Anyway, my prediction:

1. Wycombe
2. Cambridge
3. Oxford

4. Pompey
5. Plymouth Argyle
6. Notts County
7. Stevenage

23. Mansfield
24. York

Not acceptable as a prediction - need the position of all 24 teams.

The last half dozen predictions have us finishing in almost every position possible. Surely the auto promotion is a joke?

If you have a 20 goal a season striker, you always have a chance. What you like at the back?

Defence looks to be one of the most solid parts of the team.

Hoyte --- Dembele --- Nelson/N'Gala --- Johnson

For the record, I see us securing a mid-table finish but it is refreshing to see us being predicted so high up given our recent woes in the FL.

I assume this thoery doesn't apply to Mansfield and Matt Green then?

I'm afraid not. Mansfield were the worst side down the abbey last season. Team who get promoted have the good feel factor and in the habit of winning. They signed Dembele who is a fantastic center half and they have Akinde so they are my tip to sneak into the play-offs.

Have you signed Nelson yet? He was terrible for us last season and can't move. Apart from that you look solid at the back.

So what am I missing with Northampton? Seems like a few people are pegging them to do extremely well this season, despite being bang average last year. Have they had a big squad overhaul that I have missed?

If they can keep Ivan Toney along with Marc Richards, you're looking at 35 goals. They have signed a good GK and I expect them to be in and around mid-table/flirting with the play-offs.

Nelson hasn't been great. He does ok but has lacked pace in our friendlies but I think Allen likes him. I think we currently have a problem at the back, Stack seems to be struggling to stay fit so we are lacking a decent keeper.

they have nowt at all, I am just assuming they do get bought by a billionaire who throw lots of money at it during season.

and my barnet top 3 pick isn't a joke I think keeping Allen was an massive boost for you guys and he knows how to get the best out of your limited set-up in this level, plus add you have momentum and I think you'll do well.

of course expect relegation now.

Based on diligent research, blended with a hint of prejudice and a big dollop of superstition:

1. Portsmouth
2. Luton Town
3. Plymouth Argyle
_________
4. Notts County
5. Oxford United
6. Northampton Town
7. Barnet
____________
8. Cambridge United
9. Leyton Orient
10. Bristol Rovers
11. Wycombe Wanderers
12. AFC Wimbledon
13. Yeovil Town
14. Exeter City
15. Hartlepool United
16. Morecambe
17. Carlisle United
18. Stevenage
19. Mansfield Town
20. Dagenham & Redbridge
21. York City
22. Accrington Stanley
______________
23. Newport County
24. Crawley

Despite our goal keeping issues, after that review of our opposition for the season, I'm feeling much more relaxed. With 8/8 approaching, I shall now try to keep bullishness in check until early November - when I'll hopefully be returning from a month off the grid in the wilds of Argentina to a top 10 league position and a favourable draw in both FA and League Cups (bullishness control failure again).

We've got some good attacking midfielders, a solid keeper, and possibly the best striker in the league. Also one of the most exciting prospects in the league.

I'm refraining from my predictions until a bit closer to the opening game. We may have splashed a load of cash around by then.

fwiw Pompey looked OK against Gosport Boro. But Luton looked a real class above. Like a good League One team.
Never good idea to go too much by PSFs, I know, but still.....
Ten months is a long time in football, as the old cliche goes, but I wouldn't be predicting Pompey up at the top yet. But also wouldn't be putting Newport anywhere much above the lower black line and certainly not as high up as clubs like Accrington Stanley.

Pompey looked even better against Coventry on Tuesday, but a lot less fluid against Woking yesterday. But as you say, it's much too early to tell anything.

Felt the Top 7 was so hard to predict. Think the Top 3 have very good defences for this level (providing Argyle drop Kelvin Mellor) and have that proven finisher long as CMS stays fit at Luton. Playoff sides will be a mix of big budget sides like Portsmouth, Oxford who have the potential and seriously think Exeter and Barnet can continue momentum and make a stab at the playoffs. Think Northampton will miss out as they always do. Think the Notts County experiment will go tits up like the Swindon one did a few years back at this level but they'll be top half.

The relegation scrap will be interesting. I don't want Newport to go down but their signings seem very Conference standard signings to me. Rhys Taylor was an awful keeper for us so hopefully he won't be their number one but I feel the cost cutting will badly affect them this season. Crawley are a side that reek of bad start, Yates to be sacked and a season of turmoil as well. I feel Mansfield and Stevenage will be affected by the inexperience of their managers and York having Vadaine Oliver leading the line will definitely work against them this campaign I feel.

FAQ

Why haven't you tipped yourselves for top spot?

Without trying to sound too big headed I've noticed teams are raising their game against us, as we are one of the big coups in the league. I still predict us to finish 2nd and go up, couldn't really ask for a better manager in one that was promoted 2 seasons ago from this division and nearly went up again last season. The difference in players coming in from last season to this is huge. We've released alot of the deadwood we signed when we first came down to league 2 in Devera, Ertl, Shorey, Craddock, Barcham, East, Agyemang etc.

This has freed up wages in which we've replaced them with Bennett, Naismith, McGurk, Doyle, Burgess, Stevens.

Obvisouly losing Jed Wallace wasn't ideal but Gary Roberts is a class league 1 player and whilst he may not be the explosive player Jed was he will be the playmaker.

Why have you put Newport bottom?

The worst team technically to play at Fratton two years running, the dirtiest and most unsportsman like. This is the season they'll realise how good JE was for them.

Hartlepool have signed Rakish Bingham but still finishing in midtable?

And what a top signing that was but I'm not convinced by their squad as a whole. Like Mansfield they'll do better this season but mid table is as good as it'll get.

Give me 3 controversial predictions for 15/16?

1. No one below Dagenham & Redbridge in my table will come within 10 points off the playoffs.

2. York will be really shit, score less than 46 goals but still be within a chance of staying up come the last game of the season.

3. Keith Curle will the first manager sacked.

Well 17th would be an improvement on last season... and that table has the three teams directly above us as the three individual teams I'd most like to finish above, so we just need a little push to finish above them all :D
