Well Kylo was badly injured after the bowcaster shot from Chewbacca. A weapon that was blowing people up and is very powerful. Plus Finn might have been trained to use a lightsaber as we have seen with his fight with the stormtrooper. Also Rey might have been trained before but got her mind wiped when she was left on Jakku, plus she is very handy with her staff which might have helped her with the lightsaber. Also during the fight with Finn, it seemed that Kylo was fighting arrogantly and was toying with both Finn and Rey. He also wanted Rey to join him and turn to the dark side; maybe that's why he didn't kill her.

Fair enough, I was just kind of expecting Kylo to be a lot handier with his saber than he ended up being.

EDIT: I tried to quote DarkSithLord here but it din't work.

But Luke's his uncle and Han his dad, Leia his mum so I still don't get the whole Vader obsession. I'd of thought he'd bee more inclined to idolise Luke unless Luke specifically did something he didn't like.

Well Leia said that Snoke turned Kylo to the dark side, so he might have told him that he needed to finish Vader's mission.

Fair enough,
I'm really hoping to they go into a bit more in the sequels as I like Ren as a character, seemed the most interesting of the new bunch.

Adam Driver portrayed him brilliantly, probably my favorite performance of the new cast.

He played the part well but I thought Daisy Ridley stole the show. Boyega did a solid job too. None of the new character except for Hux were poor IMO.

I loved them all, they were all excellent. As for Hux, he was an arrogant asshole. Which I believe was their intention with the character and Gleeson played an asshole quiet well.

Abrams has said the film's resemblance to A New Hope is intentional. Basically the story arc of the series has repeated nearly exactly after three episodes because they had to appease fans that couldn't handle something different.

Watched it last night - Loved it! Really enjoyable. Saw it in the iMax, first time I have ever been to one and it was worth the money and worth the wait. It was the biggest screen in Europe and you really get lost in the film.

I watched all 6 before it, just to make sure I remembered all the movies as it had been a long time since seeing them. The difference between this and the prequels is that you do not know what is coming. In the prequels, with any Anakin or Obi Wan fight you know that they do not die. Whereas in this film, it is more unknown and you do not know what is going to happen.

Also, Rey is hot, which also added to the enjoyment.

Not sure why ROTS gets so much bad press, I think it's up there with the original trilogy in terms of quality.

Too fuckin' right. I'd possibly have it ahead of ROTJ, if I'm honest.

The prequels aren't that bad. They're just generally not on a par with the originals (or VII, for that matter)... but there's not anywhere near as big a jump in quality between them as there is, for example, between The LOTR films and The Hobbit.

Personally, I think Ep 3 (ROTS) is the worst one out of the six. Maybe better than Ep 7. I think Anakin's change happens too quickly. And yes, I know that there's a lot of buildup in Ep 2.

Attack Of The Clones is just fucking woeful, with the false and very forced love matchup scenes, the whole of the last 30 minutes where it has very poor special effects so much so that it looks like a cartoon, and then the laughable Yoda fight scene where he jumps around like a boysterous kitten, only for him to grab his crook and pretend he's got arthritis all over!

The fall of Anakin does take place a bit too quickly, the General Grevous stuff is unnecessary and too long, and the fight scene with Palpy and that tosser Windu is poorly executed, but apart from that, its not bad and probably is fractionally better than Jedi (ep 6) since we don't have to spend half the film looking at fucking ewoks!

You know the diversity thing that Abrams is working on with gays and women and stuff? Well, arthritic people deserve respect too.

Uh oh. I thought Rouge One was supposed to be film eight of the saga. Looks like 3.5 to me, rebels steal plans for the Death Star. Are Star Wars films going to be annual now? Action films with the Star Wars template?

Apologies for the misogyny, but the female lead craze is getting boring. Yes, 99.9% of films ever made have male leads and equality and all that. It's just looking like an agenda, currently.

To me, the trailer seems like it could be for almost any "good vs evil" science fiction movie.

To be fair, despite my previous criticisms, Star Wars is the quintessential "good vs evil" movie. It's the king of the monomyth.
