3 with the exact value google finds on one site.

One team spot on, two suspiciously close (though they may have just been very good guesses, we can't know).

As far as I can see, only one team didn't do it. Like I said... it was inevitable.
I can honestly say my guess of £238 was genuinely just that and I can vouch for our team there because it was totally my call and I did not cheat at all.

I'm sure it can be resurrected using the ideas already posted but going back to your earlier post, if everyone used the tools at their disposal everyone would get 100% and where's the fun in coming joint first on a thing where no challenge was actually taken on :dk:

Sorry rammy.
As others have already said, we just assumed that it would be thought of by all teams. Thinking about it though, there's no satisfaction in doing well in a game like this using Google.. Was a silly thing to do.

Ah, fair enough then if it was just a guess!

But as for that second bit, as I said, I didn't think that the products would be directly findable on google. I intended to use it more as a guide than a blatant cheat sheet, as it were.

Anyway, with all of this established... do you actually think that this could be continued as it were? Only with everybody agreeing to not use google? Yes, it relies a lot of just trusting people not to cheat, but so be it. I think after the latest goings on, we'd all feel pretty shit about ourselves if it started back up and somebody was to win it by cheating. And it's hardly going to be subtle if somebody just goes into their PM's and happens to guess something dead on.

So what say you?

Start everybody from 0, we go again, and damn your eternal soul to hell if you use google?

I'm well up for it if James has got his motivation to run the game back.

Nothing is happening tonight, that's for sure.

How we move forward, I don't know yet.

As for "I didn't think that the products would be directly findable on google"...

That is much easier said than done. You need enough information to make an educated guess, but having that information makes it Google-able. A few of the items would have been more difficult though I think.

Only Jehovah's Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed game of The Price Is Right, dominated by Satan the Devil.

Hopefully we can all agree to play with google and move forward with this. It is a quiz/gameshow after all.

That is a shame what happened but it does bring up a point about how to run a quiz on the internet when people will just take the easy way out and google things. I suppose its why you can't run general knowledge quizzes as well which I particularly like.

In my view you can't villain-ize contestants and call them cheats for using google. Why are people going to use to google? The same reason they are sitting there pressing F5 repeatedly - they want to do well at this game. It wasn't specified in the task description that you couldn't do research on the internet.

If Rammy wants the task to happen that with no using search engines, I'm sure we can all follow that. But I have to say that I don't think it will make for a good task as people are going to feel restricted playing. Also, what if someone happens to guess a suspiciously close amount? Are they going to be lambasted?

Just spit-balling here, and it's Rammy's game so it's up to him, but I've got some alternative suggestions for this 'Price is Right' game. I'm not an expert in reverse image searching, but as has been suggested in the Five Guys convo - could the images be edited in a way that will make them useless for a reverse image search? For example - put black bars or markings over them. Or crop them down to just a small square of the picture. With the latter you would be combining 'Guess the object' with 'Price is right' but that is going to work better on a forum.

Another alternative is that the game might work better as a 'buzz in' style format. You could say the first team to guess within £5/50/100/1000 (depending on how much the item is actually worth) gets the point . People could make an educated guess in a shorter time than someone going straight to a search engine. Or say have 10 multiple choice options for the price and then first to buzz in correctly, with freeze-outs if people answer incorrectly. I know people didn't like the 'buzz in quiz' last night but these questions would be trickier so it wouldn't just be the first person to answer gets it each time.

But I have to say that I don't think it will make for a good task as people are going to feel restricted playing.

In other games, it's probably fair enough LR. This was a game of guessing a products value and being the closest though, not finding an answer to a question. The premise itself should make it obvious that a Google search would destroy it if you were able to find the item with a few keywords (just using the key features of the item as some have suggested would still lead to the product most likely).

Basically, I see three options on what happens next.

1. We play the game in the hope that everyone plays fairly and avoids Google. Maybe I should have said not to search, but I thought it also went without saying (despite my fears). Clearly I was wrong, and I apologise I didn't state as such.

2. We ignore this game and move on.

3. I cancel the entire thing as half of the 'shows' could potentially be spoilt by Google, and we call it a farce. Tis the problem with game shows. Worked well on a number of other forums though when I was 'researching', as people respected that it was a bit of fun, and not worth trying to gain an unfair advantage on. They didn't need to be told to not search either, from what I could tell. The Price is Right, with MORE information worked superbly.

Option 3 needs to just go away. No way should you put this much effort into the game for nothing. Putting aside peoples moaning, deal or no deal and telly addicts were actually a lot of fun. Don't let this one game kill what has otherwise been a lot of fun (may just be saying that because we're winning, though :woot:).

Again, fuck option 2 as well. It can be recovered. We just need to trust one another not to use google moving forwards. And, should anybody be found guilty of that most heinous crime (no idea how we'd prove it, mind), then fuck that person. If we've all agreed not to do it and they still do it, as far as I'm concerned, they can have a life time ban from all forum games and features.

Option 1 is the only one that even deserves so much as a glance.

This although the ban thing is a tad extreme. A "Cheat" title might be more entertaining ;)

I'll go with option 1 so long as everybody decides to bin google. Win and lose through teamwork, nothing else.

Option 1 definitely.

I'm sure everyone can leave google alone and play this as a bit of fun, which is what it is. Of course we can't stop people using google and if they do, then they do, but if they want to win that way without any sort of challenge or fun in it then so be it and more fool them.

Option 1. I think we're all big enough to realise the amount of work that James has put into this, and from now on trust each other not to use Google and play in the spirit it was intended.

Option 3 can straight do one, and I don't really like option 2 either.

I whined quite a lot last night, so this is the last Ill say on it. I think the problem was that it wasnt made explicitly clear not to use Google, so Jehovahs thought they were being clever (I'd like to think they wouldnt outright cheat). Then, as that went unpunished, the other 2 teams thought it OK to do it as well and then it just descended into farce. That isnt to blame Rammy at all as they should have known better but it is understandable. I would hope that noone would cheat if we played it again (and for the rest of the marathon as well). FWIW I thought it was a really good game while it lasted.

what others have said, hopefully we're all big enough to not want to cheat to win a forum game and appareciatw the effort Rammys put in to not want to spoil it. FWIW I think most were last night until they/we/I saw another team cheat...and as we'll be looking for other teams cheating now (especially oaf :p ) it wouldn't be worth it anyway.
