There needs to be something put in place because the situation, not just at Bolton or Bury, cannot continue as is. The Championship is loaded with debt. Clubs are being built on a foundation of sand. Something had to give.

Clubs, Bury included, are / were not learning these lessons; they had been through this cycle 3-4 times.

-New owners should need to put down a bond ("security deposit") of £1m with the league, 50% of which is returned within 12 months and the balance returned within 24 months.
-Clubs should be automatically relegated for an insolvency event and teams disqualified for the rest of the season 'to sort shit out'.
-Football creditors rule is scrapped.

How many times did Luton go into admin?

And the rules should’ve been stricter then too. It may have prevented us going into administration. On one occasion it was forced by the clubs own supporters to get rid of a scrupulous owner.

Karl Robinson has suggested a bond has to be paid by a new owner (as others have as well) and our owner, Tiger, agreed with this yesterday on Radio Oxford. So, at the least, it forces a financial commitment from the owner that they risk if they screw up or try to asset strip. Also make it significant enough to put off chancers/asset strippers.

I would also like the Football League to do a detailed annual financial audit which penalties (points deduction, fines, forced relegation etc) can apply if certain standards aren't met. The French leagues manage to do this, iirc, so it is doable.
That is a damn good idea.

The Accy chairman came up with a good idea. A football bank governed by the EFL/FA so when clubs want to borrow money, they have to go through them. Low interest rates etc.

Sounds like it.

I'm not sure there's as much support for Bury from other Clubs as the MP's think, tbh. Mark Palios and Andy Holt have both said similar in recent days (today?).

Presumably they will want to speak to all 72 football league clubs.

Be interested to see the views of Championship clubs who’ve not really been affected by what’s happened. Our owner for example, won’t even have a bloody clue what’s gone on!

The EFL should have just nipped it early doors and said there was no way back, end of story.

Instead, they're *still* dragging this whole episode out.

As bad as it is this would open all sorts of cans of worms.

The team relegated in 23rd from league two would no doubt kick a fuss as they’ve been replaced by a club that’s been kicked out.

Other clubs in the future would also demand and have a legal challenge to have the same outcome so essentially clubs skint could have a year off to sort themselves out.... and this is also reliant on Bury surviving the 9 months with no income and finding another buyer who can sort their debts and stadium issues out.

Be surprised if it happens to be honest.

I suspect the majority of clubs won’t go for it and the EFL know this.

Possibly just a case of the EFL passing the buck so they can say ‘well we tried, but our members made the decision’.

But it’ll become more popular than the IMF...

TBH I think that should be the way. The clubs and EFL discuss/vote for the rules, procedures and punishments. Once they are decided the EFL are just there to oversee and implement them. Don't allow them any wriggle room.

They have. You have been expelled so either get a new owner(and start in non league) or start a new club.

Except of course they haven't
They have passed the buck and the club chairmen (or ladies) will now decide.

It shouldn't be down to the clubs really, we have a governing body that seems to me to be bloody useless

The clubs are the governing body in this instance.

Does this put a spanner in the plans of the working group trying to get Bury into L2 next season?

No it was expected and in the grand scheme of things is minor. The other factors against are anything other than minor mind.
I recon we have no more than a 10% chance of surviving as BFC and 90% as 1885 in a much lower division, minus Gigg Lane and sharing at Radcliffe.

Was the legal action not in respect of the fact that they felt the EFL broke its rules by not having a vote of the member clubs which now has happened?
