And this is the problem with some in this party, they simply believe that equality of opportunity exists for all, that it's a level playing field. Quite outrageous by Cameron in PMQs today to try and link Sadiq Khan to an extremist IS supporter because 'he shared a platform with him'.
And it turns out the man accused of being an IS supporter is not at all.

I'm not even very fond of Khan but the Tories have been running a highly unpleasant and really rather strange campaign in London (perhaps rather less strange, admittedly, when you learn of Lynton Crosby's involvement). Goldsmith isn't a maverick Boris-esque figure so his only hope of winning an increasingly Labour city was to cultivate support among non-Conservative voters. He has a reputation for being a fairly liberal, independent-minded Tory, isn't close to Cameron/Osborne and has got a decent support base in South-West London - why not try and build on that and play up some of his "nice Tory" credentials? Instead, his team seem to have embarked on a divisive and relentlessly negative campaign that looks set to backfire rather badly. To which the only appropriate response is "good".

I get a vote in this and will probably vote Green as Khan is pretty insipid and already certain to win. Then again, I asked Siân Berry a question on her Facebook Q&A about protecting boaters from the aggressive Canal & River Trust campaign to get continuous cruisers moving or face eviction, and her response was FAR FROM ADEQUATE.

I was genuinely open to the idea of setting aside my pathological dislike of the Tory Party and voting for Goldsmith. As PP says, he's seemed a pretty decent and reasonable chap up until now. But the campaign has been pretty disgraceful.

I'm not keen on Khan and TBH I'm yet to fully investigate the voting system, but I'll probably be choosing from the least bad option out of Labour, LD and Green.

Khan's campaign literature has been very poor. It's all very well telling me your Dad was a bus driver and you grew up on a council estate...I actually want to read some specific policy ideas.

I have seen that pic before so knew Cameron was making a twat of himself again. I bet he wouldn't dare make those claims outside of Parliament where he is legally protected and knows he can come out with whatever bullshit he likes with impunity.

So, MPs Tories vote against letting in child refugees. Disgusting. It's times like this when I can't see how anyone can vote Tory. They're despicable at times. No compassion or feeling. I'd love for there to be a poll of Tory voters to see if they agree or disagree with the decision because I bet a lot more than the handful of their MPs disagree with it.

Labour are playing a blinder here. The amendment would have a negligible effect on children who would simply be vulnerable and unaccompanied here instead of on the continent. The real effect would be felt by the increased number of children who would sent on dangerous sea crossings by their parents and traffickers, spurred on by the feelz brigade telegraphing to them a new immigration loophole that might even end up letting the entire family come over too. This being result of people trying to solve complex issues with whatever answer makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside.

That's not quite right. The Government are against an arbitrary figure as proposed by a random member of the House of Lords (and leapt upon by Yvette Cooper).

The Government have been praised by UNHCR for their work on this.

The problem is, if you start saying you'll take large numbers of unaccompanied children, you're encouraging the separation of kids from their parents.

One of the reasons there are many unaccompanied children on the continent is people traffickers taking kids off parents at the last second and refusing to hand them back unless they get more money. And why has that situation come about? Because Merkel and Juncker made it so, so easy for the traffickers by making those idiotic proclamations.

Life can be cruel. But it's naive to think there are simple solutions to the world's greatest problems.

It's incredibly dissapointing but I'm not massively surprised tbh. These people haven't a shred of decency, empathy or compassion in them. They are effectively using confused, traumatised and vulnerable children as a deterrent against people fleeing a nightmarish situation.

It could be possible that they voted against it for reasons like the ones Alty suggested. I know it is much easier to go for the "these are evil lizard's without a heart".
