He's not as good as Hildreth, but for some reason England have a blind spot with regards to James.

I bloody wouldn't, he's the only player we've got that can play 4 day cricket. Take him out of our side for the summer and relegation will be certain instead of merely probable.
....... PICK HIM QUICK!!!

Slightly blinkered there, Vince would be a much better choice. Hildreth should have had a shot though!

No need to worry about us, as usual, Bransgrove will want to focus on one day cricket, that's where the money is to be made.
Got a bet on you for the 50 over

On Hildreth, his time should have been a couple of seasons ago after he'd had his second excellent season in 3 years.

He's still class, a level above most in the county game. The fact that he's not had a cap is quite frankly a disgrace. Obviously his face just doesn't fit.

Had the Lions captaincy taken off him despite doing not a lot wrong, anyone want to take a bet if he played for a select group of other counties he'd have a cap by now..... anyone...

Just thinking back, last few England Somerset players

Buttler - destructive force in limited overs cricket when England were looking for a permanent keeper and rotating regularly.
Kieswetter - Pretty much apply the above.
Trescothick - Was personally scouted by Fletcher and would have been in the international side earlier if Nasser hadn't blocked the move, saying he didn't really know much about Tres.

Caddick- unplayable on his day, couldn't be ignored due to his wickets.( never really appreciated due to Darren ( professional Yorkie) Gough.
Johnson- loads of wickets( county bowler apparently :err:)

I would have loved to have seen Hildreth get a go for England but he had a couple of poor seasons when it really mattered as it was probably when he would have been more or less next in line. Also, averaging 43 when your home ground is Taunton is good but not that impressive. I haven't seen enough of him to know how true it is but they say he's not good enough against the short ball - although I wish they'd given him a chance to prove that wrong. It's gonna take a phenomenal amount of runs for him to get close to the England team now though.

In the 2nd innings of Warwickshire's draw with Middlesex, Warwickshire bowled all 11 players including keeper Tim Ambrose who came on to bowl a wicket maiden meaning he legitmately has a first class average of 0

Anyone here play much themselves? Had my first pre season game, pretty heavy defeat, opposition hit 286 all out, 2 guys hit 100's (230 between them overall) and we were bowled out for 170 odd. I came on when the score was about 200 and took 3-16 off 4 overs staking my claim for continuing to open the bowling this season in the 2's, got rid of both centurions lbw which they were both annoyed about as they could have easily been not given, then the next ball after the 2nd wicket get one plumb infront but the guy doesn't give it. Then open the batting walk forward in stride to play a drive and manage to york myself and only get 8.

Another 50 for Bell and Rashid is then the one to get him.

Willey has also recently got engaged to a Northern Lass who was an X Factor contestant so I'm sure that played some part as well.

Think Kent have found the perfect opening partnership.

Daniel Bell-Drummond and Tom Latham posted 131 in their first opening innings together and then chased 187 without loss in second innings. Very pleasing. Sign of things to come hopefully.

Tres showing the decision to give him a new contract was the right one.

ECB have announced a 'North v South of England' one day series to be played in Dubai as a warm up for the Royal London 50 over cup.
It says in the article that it will be aimed at 'uncapped or peripheral England players' but surely if it is being based on the performance of players for their counties then overseas players would have to be considered, unless of course the North and South relates to where the player was born as opposed to which County he is playing for. Suppose more details will come out in due course but as much as the concept seems ok, I am sure it is more of a money-spinner for the ECB

Root and Bairstow both with strike rates in the mid 80's as well, very impressive, Rashid rattling along nicely too. Bell out for 7 against Somerset in his first innings, given our attack isn't great it could hurt his chances of an England recall and maybe push Vince closer, whose run out dismissal was down to excellent fielding.
