Cook will be really annoyed with himself right about now. It was him rather throwing his wicket away going after a wide one that started the rot, when we were looking comfortable at that stage

Good work from Hales, ten 4's so seeminly sticking around and waiting for the right balls, on this sort of pitch in May you can't try and rush things so he's doing well.

Well in Hales. Had to work hard for the first hour but he's batted really well amidst the carnage at the other end

How come one or two can stick around whilst everyone else throws their wicket away?

Must just be written into the laws of English cricket that we must have some sort of collapse each test..

Well two of those have scored runs are two guys who have started the season on fire, not sure how Hales has done in county games before this but seems to have his head screwed on.

Both Bairstow & Hales have been put down this morning - they're both in the 80s now, you'd imagine they'll loosen up if they get past a ton.

Looks like I made a good choice being out in the morning, hopefully Hales and Vince can both get good scores though. I feel long term Vince (if he does well enough) will be moved up to 3 and Compton given the boot for England to find someone else to bat 5, maybe Bairstow up to 5 and Buttler/Stokes after him.

I'm happy that Vince is in the team but he's some way off being a test number 3. He only bats there for Hampshire because they've got nobody else.
