Yes but as I said before the match I’d never go into any test without a spinner. Hate it when England do it every now and again. The only exception I’d have made is if there was a pure express pace bowler like Wood in there.

Good job with the bat so far overall. Crawleys dismissal was so frustrating, as is often the case with him he just gave it away stupidly. Duckett is the most fascinating opening batsman I’ve seen, totally disregards almost everything you traditionally expect from one how he almost never leaves the ball but it works for him.

Lyon picking up that injury feels like a game changer in Englands favour. Looked like a calf and if so I doubt we see him bowl any time soon especially in such a condensed series.

Still a deficit to make up but it’s advantage England I feel after today. Problem is each time England look like pulling away they go and hand the Aussies a route back in. That was pretty poor to fall into that trap when they started going to the short ball, just ride that out and grind them down.

I think they were looking at 450 as a marker but I would have considered the lost time from rain delays. Not sure if this can be made up at all?

One thing we do know is they won't be too fazed by losing those wickets and will still play the same way rather than suffer a crisis of confidence.

Just frustrating I guess as we could have been much closer or lost less wickets.

True though I was pleased to see when Stokes came out to bat he deliberately didn’t start trying to pull or hook the short balls and Cummins soon went away from it. Right call there and to be honest we’d scored so quickly anyway they shouldn’t have felt any pressure to take it on.
