Big call by Australia to not go with a frontline spinner at Old Trafford. Going with both Green and Marsh they’re pretty much packing the batting knowing it’ll likely be a shortened game due to weather. Suppose a draw means they retain the Ashes so can see the thinking somewhat.

Wonder if Stokes will try and force the issue by declaring on day 1 if batting again? He’s pretty much done everything apart from forfeit and innings to force a result.

He did suggest to use a game plan knowing we need to win so be wouldn’t surprised .

If anyone would do something out of the ordinary it’s Stokes. He’s done it even when he hasn’t needed to before. If we can get this back to 2-2 I think however it ultimately ends up this series may well have surpassed 2005.

England women also done a great job drawing their series overall with the Aussies and won the ODI’s and T20’s within that. Excellent achievement.

Even in a probable shortened game what we are seeing from Moeen in this little spell before tea makes me think Australia dropped a bollock not picking a spinner. Feel get one more wicket and England will be happy with where they’re at. Bowled really well as a unit in the afternoon session.

It’s interesting with him if you see his total scores in the series it’s been alright in all the games. He’s just got a thing where he does something stupid once getting set. Good to see him go on this time.

Brook, Stokes and Bairstow in next doesn’t look like much there’s much respite from the assault afterwards either.

Brilliant day for England. Couldn’t really have gone much better. Reckon we see if can get that lead to around 200 and then put them back in. Crawley with a special knock and Root was great too (unlucky for him with that grubber that bowled him but looking down the line that’s a bigger problem for the Aussies than us).

Talented maybe but the lure of white ball cricket will make sure that we rarely see the level of test wickets taken by the likes of Warne, Broad and Jimmy over the years happen again

Think England are just rubbing salt into the wounds with 50 partnership for Jimmy and Bairstow. England clearly adopted the strategy of only bat the once in the test and to be fair they’ve scored so quickly I think it’s fair enough.
